Scratches on battery negative side,molicel

My newish molicel 21700 have developed scratches on the negative terminal
i have 8 year old LG batteries that have 0 scratches

I use both Molicel and Samsung. Both 18650’s and 21700’s. I have noticed that the Samsung battery’s are a tad longer than the Mollies. Both brands I use interchangeable in all my mods. They both run on all my mods. The C frame’s all work flawlessly. The mods with the sliding bottoms sometimes sometimes won’t read a second battery till I bounce the door against my palm. Then it reads fine.

yes but are there any scratches on the molicell?
is that normal?

Looks like possible arcing at the neg battery side from the battery not making solid contact with the post. I’ve had mods with cheap battery posts that get dimpled (dented) and can cause arcing. It could also be from dirty battery posts small amounts of dirt or grit cling to the posts. Try some rubbing alcohol or really fine grit sandpaper on both the posts and neg side of batteries.

Bottom load mods take a set. The Mollies are a touch smaller. They get scratched till the door keeps them tight enough. Your not damaging the battery any more than a C frame when you slide the battery in or out. Probably less damage with the bottom door because it doesn’t catch on the sleeves.

@rcleven

thanks for the replies guys
i have 8 batteries some are quite old and these 2 are the only ones that have this issue and they are pretty new
its definitly the plating that is just scratching off on insertion, I can see it immediatly

im not sure if this is a safety problem or its normal for moli, are they fraud re-wraps? etc

I need some newer 21700 batts but they stupidly difficult to source in canada without a serious mark up and this makes me hesitant on my last source

Find out if 18650 battery ships to Canada. They should but at what cost? They had some pretty cheap Samsung 21700’s last week.

something changed with USA shipping batteries here a few years ago

i used to order from illumn i looked at 18650 and lion wholesale
they all have 30 - 40 $ flat rate for shipping which is new and more than the cost of the batteries themselves

gonna search some more for alternatives

My drive to and from work today took me near Liion so I stopped in to grab a couple of extra AC adapters as I had the top come loose on the one I’ve been using for a while.
I figured that while I was there I might as well grab a spare charger, some P28s, and also grabbed a pair of the P45s since they were a little bit cheaper than the P42s right now.

@rcleven
shipping would cost more than the batteries for me
they ALL have 35 - 40 $ shipping
which never used to be the case

i just want to know if the scratches are normal on molicel, is it safety haZard?

The P45 are super cheap. Hope you picked four for each of your 21700 mods. Being from Canada you won’t see them this cheap again.

I’ve had two pairs of P42s in rotation that I only use in a Geekvape L200 Classic and both sets are somewhat scratchy looking but don’t look to be damaged in any way.
I’ve not encountered any problems with mine in use or charging.
Thinking on it, the scuffing might come from my charger more than the mod as the 21700s are pretty tight to get in and out.

awsome thanks for that so much!
these are the only batteries i have that scratched up
and yea its the charger not so much the mod
which is strange because im such a gentle lover

i guess this is normal for these molicels

I have five pairs of P26s in rotation and none have near the amount of scratching/scuffing as the 21700s do so I think it is just from a tight fit in and out of the charger - at least in my case.
I’ve been using an Xtar VC2 for a while now. There is a newer VC2SL which can fit protected 21700s so I imagine the slots have a little more wiggle room.
I might need to try using one of those to see if I get less scuffing.

These moli 21700’s are probably at least a couple years old as I’ve already rewapped them…
