Short Question about bathing

Hey Everybody. I’ve got a quick question about steeping juices in hot water baths. Is there a certain temperature that you should be keeping the water?
Obviously it shouldn’t be boiling water (should it?).
But is there such a thing as too hot?

Yes, keep it between 40 and 50 degrees celcius - above that nicotine degrades faster and it might also have detrimental effects to the flavorings. Gently heat, and then shake like hell. Repeat as many times as necessary

Thanks daath !

Hope you don’t mind me adding to the thread.

What is the benefits of warming our mixes, after creation? Does it add something that not doing it might? Or is it just a speeding up the “steeping” process?

High vg juices in my opinion take longer to blend… If I heat up the mix after I mix it the vg thins out and blends a lot better when shaking… Does it help steep… Maybe but it does help blend the flavors together a lot quicker and easier. Eventually time would do it too but heating it does speed this up considerably

@daath is right on the money with his temps and method I second that advice.

I was water bathing my juices for about a year before I stopped. I would add my VG base, flavors, shake, then in my mini hot bath they would go. I stopped this because I realized it does absolutely nothing for the juice, besides running the chance of degrading nic and even some flavorings. Sure it thins the VG, but I have found that it actually made no difference in “blending”, almost like a false perception.

So I changed my ways and tested it. I decided to add all my flavors to my bottles first and then I gave a shake and/or swirl to blend the flavoring “base”. Then I added my VG base, gave a quick shake and popped them on my steeping shelf, right next to the ones that sat in a water bath for an hour. Came back 2 weeks later and did a taste…no difference what so ever and both were blended the same.

Of course everyone has their own style when it comes to mixing and for a year, I thought mine was needing a water bath. For whatever reason I used to add my flavorings to my base, but now that I add my base to the mixed flavorings, they come out perfect.

So in my opinion, the only real reason to use a water bath would be if you plan on vaping the juice immediately and you want to shake it to do so. I’ve tried so many various steeping “methods” and there is nothing that can replicate sitting on a shelf for a couple weeks.

Just my .02 :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I’ve been doing this for the last few months…even stopped using my Magmixer, I can’t taste any difference at all in any of my liquids, same recipes, same amount of time…and it’s way quicker and less hassle, there really is nothing else you can do other than leave it the heck alone for a month :ok_hand:

Yes agreed I ment that it blends them right away if your doing a shake and vape… I agree with you that if they are going to sit for two weeks before you vape them there will be no difference… I would only heat a mix if I planned to vape it that day or the next

My methods is to just boil some water in an electric kettle place in bowl and let them heat for about 20 mins. Shake like hell and let sit. I do not do this with lemons or heavy citrus flavors as it degrades the flavor. Especially key lime.

Personally I put my 12-18 bottles in warm/hit tap water for about 15 mins or so just to make it easier to give them a super shake using a sawzall setup.

After that they sit for 4weeks almost undistirbed and ready to vape. I’ve only had like three mixes with a touch of flavor separation. But beyond that I just give the bottle a basic handshake (mostly for mental purposes) and vape.

Just to add to @Skullblade789 I don’t heat mixes with lemon, spices (like pepper FA or clove FA), or tabbaco.

I agree with DarthVapor. I’ve tried many methods for speed steeping and introducing heat, light or aeration is not going to benefit your juice in any way. True, it may help if you’re wanting a shake and vape but honestly there is only one method that is best for your juice and that’s agitation and time.

To achieve agitation one can incorporate a vortex machine, a magnetic stir plate or a milk frother, some even use a USB powered mini fan or power tools. If you wish to use a frother or stir plate, make sure you have a lid on top of the beaker or container otherwise you’re just drawing in air.

So if I poke fun at it, poke at it, or call it names will that work for the agitation part. It works for my wife.

When do you add nic to your mix?. Same question to @Pugs1970

For myself, I make a nicotine VG base, which is a 4mg base. I do this so it makes mixing very fast and less “risky”, plus I can keep all my nic in the freezer and only pull it out every 5-6 months to make base.

I also make mine 4mg, so my finished product comes out to 3.5, give or take, depending on the % of flavorings

480ml VG to 20ml Nicotine (100 mg solution)

Great Tips Darth. Thanks

Generally I only use nic with tobacco flavors but if I do use nic, I add it all together before I start the blending process. Personally. I feel it’s nice to enjoy specific flavors without the nic, especially fruits and dessert vapes.

There is a case to be made that adding nicotine to flavours up front, other than tobacco (or fusions of tobacco) can reduce the purity of a given profile. True, and I suggest everyone experiment with nicotine addition at varying intervals. To add further to this, when I make my custard cream, whether it for myself or others, I add the nicotine on the last few days of steeping. I do this with certain lighter fruits too.

I mix all my liquids at 1% and I add the nic with the flavours if it’s PG and with the Base if it’s VG as I use both, I started just using PG but then went to VG but just found it too difficult to work with, especially as I keep it in the freezer, so I use the VG at work for on the spot orders (adding to the finished product depending on what Mg the person wants) and keep the PG at home to do bulk mixing.
