Sour Berries

I am looking for some sour or even maybe some tart berries that are out there. Raspberry flavors would probably be the closest thing, but a lot of them come off as very floral. TPA Raspberry (Sweet) is a good one that doesn’t have the issue with floral taste, but I am looking for others that can help add a sour or tart flavor.

If anyone knows of a sour berry, please let me know!

Trying to create these monstrosities:

Already using OoO Strawberry Watermelon Sour Belts as the base, just need some good, candy-like berries that impart a sour or tart taste to layer over it.

Take any berry flavor and add 1% or more of TPA sour to it. It will make it more sour appearing. It will also make it taste more realistic at smaller amounts.

Do what @GPC2012 says.

Airheads Extremes

Blue Raspberry (FW)-- 3.5%
Lemonade (Flavorah)-- 0.5%
Liquid Stevia-- 0.25%
Raspberry (Sweet) (TPA)-- 1.75%
Strawberry Watermelon Sour Belt (OOO)-- 5%
Sweet and Tart (TPA)-- 0.5%

I know there is no lemon, but I put the FLV Lemonade in there for sour/ tartness. As far as the blueberry goes, I replaced it with Blue Raspberry (FW). In the pic of the candy the berries shown are strawberry, raspberry, and blueberry, so that’s what I am trying to keep it as.

I might replace the FW Blue Raspberry with the CAP Blue Raspberry Cotton Candy.

As far as the sour goes, I have only used TPA’s and it doesn’t seem to impart any sour taste. I want to try FA’s sour but as far as I know, they are both just malic acid. Maybe I will have to try it again?

I have tried TPA Grape Candy, but it is dry and I did not get any sourness from it. Plus I don’t taste any grape in the Airheads Extremes.

EDIT: IDK why hitting ‘copy as simple text’ is not working for the recipe, but I tried.

Real Flavors Blue Raz is AWESOME!

It is a good rendition of the whitebark raspberry but if you have FW Blue Raspberry, take it out, smell it, and TELL me it doesn’t smell like these:

Granted, I am going for Airheads Extremes, but still, this is probably a recipe that is coming soon after.

Fortunately, I have some TPA Sour on hand, do you think 1.5% would be pushing it? What is the highest you would take this stuff?

With sour, I personally never go over .50%

I guess another question then is, what is a good candy raspberry? I am using sweet raspberry TPA for now, but has anyone had a decent candy-like raspberry that would fit this profile?

Real Flavors Blue Raz SC is very candy like to me.

Just a quick side note about malic acid and sour. I can’t recall what thread it was on, but DIY or die did a video a while back about the science of sour flavors and vaping.
You will need a carrier for the malic acid to reach your senses, such as sweetener.
After much trial and error, I was able to get the sour to come through on some flavors, but it took going 1/1 with sweetener and malic acid.
Be careful with using more than 1% malic acid, it won’t do any harm, but will be very harsh to your throat and lungs.
Finding that perfect balance of sour but not sweet is still an on going project of mine.

I LOVE it, thanks for the tip. I don’t use sucralose, I use stevia. What sweetener are you using as the carrier?

@Pentine
Tpa sweetener (sucralose and EM).
Been experimenting with stevia, but haven’t tried making any of my sour recipes with it.
Given that it is a stronger sweetener, I would probably go lighter on the percentage of it.
Let me know if you hit that sweet spot! I would love to use stevia in more of my recipes.
