I did run into some hot lip issues while attempting to run my wicking dry. It may have had more to do with the metal ring on the drip tip than actual cap heat. Or it may have been some errant hot liquid. I’m not entirely sure.
I’ve swapped the drip tip and haven’t had any problems since.
FWIW I’ve made myself nic-sick trying to replicate it before I’ve run into any more heat issues.
The inner honeycomb section is a stout chunk of metal and seems to keep temperature well regulated. The ports are relatively long; doing double duty with airflow alignment and heat radiation.
In a different era of my professional life I did a lot of CFD analysis with engine intake design. While I haven’t nerdded hard enough to model it, I would guess this inner section is the real reason for the surprising success of the whole thing.
For the people in the UK. “Ecigone” will be recieving there “steam crave” order in about 3 weeks. It leaves where they ship them from (steam crave HQ) on 28th September.
An awesome review! I’m just still confused about how the juice drops, and it is still able to wick on a bottom fill. I have been rocking a couple of the V2 top fills with the flow control, which is why I’m confused. I’m hoping you can shed some light on this. Do you have to flip it upside down to keep wicking? Thanks.
Ive always enjoyed steams tanks, not some of their 1st rdas though. Great to see a 30mm with a reduced chamber, not a common thing. I think VC is the only other ones i can think of off hand.
Thank you @SessionDrummer , ill definitely be picking one of these up
Thank you @Happy_Man1. The juice can’t “drop” as it’s already on the bottom. I had decided early on in the review, that I was NOT going to make long (dangling) tails down into the tank, and instead wick normally with the tails just pushing into the wells. I wanted to see, under normal tilting movements if it would wick or not, and it did. When you grab the mod/tank to vape, you do tilt it. I mean, I guess if you left it sitting completely upright, never grabbed it, but leaned down to it, once the juice level grew lower it wouldn’t wick, but that would be an odd way to vape LOL.
I was actually surprised that I didn’t have any wicking issues. I typically let it get down to about a quarter of an inch of juice left before refilling. Basically it keeps wicking by the normal lifting/tilting that you do when vaping.
Okay, that makes sense. Sometimes I tilt my V2 down, and it leaks if I have done a poor job with new wicks. So the tilting is the trick, which is a normal part of vaping. I suppose long wicking tails could be deployed for extra insurance, but it is not necessary.
@Happy_Man1, TELL me about it. I’ve been (and still do) use/using SteamCraves since the OG RDTA. I skipped the Titan, and maybe one other, but every other one, I’ve got in use, with spares, and basically every one leaks if I lay them on their sides. ALL of them (with the exception of the OG) will gravity dump if I fill without turning off the juice flow first, so THIS ONE, really surprised me. No dumps, no leakes, and no dry hits.
Now let’s be honest, I’m about 100% SURE you COULD get some dry hits, if you left it upright, never tilted it to vape, or completely borked your wick tails, and as always, better wicks, lead to better results, so I’m not saying it’s perfect, but, it did surprise me.
100% agreed. Check out @2whiskymike’s extra insurance mesh wick stick method …
Firstly, welcome to ELR @zuma, and thank you very much for that, I really appreciate it. It makes a big difference, especially when contemplating the NEXT big review.
Not sure what you read on that but I once posted using ss rope underneath your cotton wick tails. I learned this from Todd’s Reviews some years ago on an older RDTA. Works on any RDTA and eliminates the need for tipping. There comes a point when natural tipping from just vaping doesn’t cut it when you’re low on juice. I remember we used to run super long tails down into the tank. I was never too fond of that.
Ok so let me start by putting a shout out to @SessionDrummer. Thankyou for the help you are amazing.
So today i received my SteamCrave Plus v.4. After setting it up with the pre-built coils it came with and wicking, i used the coils im not a mesh person. I set it up as a rdta even though i prefer rda’s. Let me tell you SessionDrummer’s review is spot on. This thing hits like a truck. The flavor is amazing as are the clouds. I love the air flow control as it is highly adjustable to what ever you prefer. After playing with it for awhile and setting off my smoke detector in the next room i have to say you will not be disappointed with this addy. also want to add it does not leak a great plus.
Keep up the great work SessionDrummer i always admire and respect you’re reviews.
