SteamCrave Aromamizer Plus v.4 RDTA Reviewed by SessionDrummer

@Psyc I’m glad that you took the time to test it out in RDTA mode, and after you get some time with it in RDA mode, please don’t hesitate to drop pics, your thoughts, or whatever as well.

I will try and post pictures this weekend. Still running it as rdta but cant wait to try it as a rda.
But i have to say 24 hrs in and this thing is still a beast, and i cant get it to leak. First rdta i have tried that actually doesn’t let me down.

Maybe THAT should be the NEW SteamCrave tag line.

Got mine today and was surprised by the large size. Dangled cotton about 1 cm into tank and it wicks really well when I tip it slightly.
I Have a “Damnvape nitrous rdta” which has rolled up 400 gauge wire mesh that acts to wick juice onto cotton, good thing is you get spare wire mesh which I’m going to measure, roll then put into the “steam crave”.
If it wasn’t for this review I doubt I would have got it, so thank you.
I’m really impressed with it despite it’s monster size.
Also bought ss316l mesh coils which I look forward to trying out on the provided mesh deck.

I am still surprised that it wicks almost perfectly, and this is/was all during normal vape tipping. No intentional “up-side-downs”, but just normal movements. Still impressed.

@Dj35 I really appreciate that. With every review that I do, I really try to review it from a “regular” vaper’s point of view. I use whatever coils, or cotton they provide, so I can just run it “as is”. The best thing I, or any reviewer could/can do, is to report honestly. There’s always the risk that not everyone will agree, but that’s unavoidable. To hear that you read the review, picked one up, and had great results, really makes it worth it. I always love to hear feedback on the reviews/equipment. Good/bad, agree/disagree. Thank you.

Did a side by side comparison. Built up another, identical, except for the wicks. SS mesh in one, cotton tails in the other.
I threw the included bands on to shield my eyes from any chaos in the tank and ignorance is bliss.

I’m really hard pressed to notice a difference. Maybe just ever so slightly more saturation with the SS. But ONLY because I’m double fisting them. Compared to anything else on my shelf they’re virtually the same. Very, very minor difference. Minor enough that I could easily chalk it up to slightly tighter or looser cotton in the coils.
I’ll keep running the mesh in #1 until I bungle one of the wicks during a cleanup. I doubt I’ll go through the trouble of making any more.

Thanks, think I might just stay with cotton wicks then.

just a quick update. first off let me say im glad you all are enjoying it. i am a rda guy this is the first rdta that i can honestly say i enjoy. i am not a mesh person and im using the coils it came with, tried different types of cotton to see flavor differences. Japanese cotton seems to be the best at least for me.
@SessionDrummer I have not set it up as a rda yet i am really enjoying it but when i do will let you all know. Also still cant get it to leak.

Same damn boat here, and STILL kinda surprised about that @Psyc.

Hehe, again, exactly the same. I’ve tried, used, and tested a lot of RDA’s but for some reason I always went back to RTA’s RDTA’s. What’s interesting, is you’re more of an RDA’er, and I’m more of an RDTA’er, and yet, even in the out of the box setup, we both like it. I am curious to hear what you think about how it compares in RDA mode, and we haven’t even gotten into the squonk or meshing yet. I’ve tried mesh, and sometimes it worked pretty good, others not soo much, so like you, I never really got hooked on it.

I have RTAs and RDAs in rotation, but I also tend to gravitate to the tanks. For me it’s the consistency. In a good tank I get the same hit, every pull, from full to empty. In an RDA I have to ride that oversaturated to dry wave every 5-10 pulls and I don’t like it.
That being said, I do prefer the form-factor of a squonk mod and the building ease of an RDA. I’ve been using a Tauren Vortex as a bottom fed RDA for a few months, and I rather enjoy it. The Vortex has massive juice wells and the bottom feed flow design works really well. I can give it a refill squeeze long before it goes dry and it still won’t overfill or flood.
I’m currently trying the Plus V4 in RDA mode and the Vortex is my comparison point of reference.

I’m only about 10mls in so far, but it feels like SC missed the boat with the bottom feed on this.
You can see the juice channels in this picture that SD took.

Juice feeds to the TOP of the platform, directly into the cotton. However, there’s no real “reservoir” space here. Once the cotton is saturated there’s nowhere for excess juice to live. All the design mechanisms that keep this thing from leaking in RDTA mode also keep bottom fed juice from getting to any “tank” space. Why they didn’t make the bottom feed fill the tank space is beyond me. They designed a deck that wicks beautifully from BELOW the deck then added a BF that fills ABOVE the deck. Even in RDA mode there’s 1-2mls of space to wick from. It would work so well that way.

I have not yet tried cutting my cotton intentionally short and just letting it float over the wick holes. That may allow better 2-way juice flow. It still just feels like a short-sighted design.
The extra disappointment is that if you want to run the long BF pin, with the glass section in place, a heavy squonk squeeze doesn’t refill the tank. It floods the deck.

So far it’s not BAD as a BF RDA, but I don’t think I love it as much in this configuration.
Also, if anyone is considering putting it on a Topside Dual, it will fit.

By This. Much…
