Stocking up - Bases and Salicylate Salt?

For tldr just read the bolded parts.

Hello. Haven’t been around here much ever since I basically had to stop flavouring and sweetening my juices (other than icing agents) because it was messing with my sense of taste (sweet). Sorry if this type of discussion is not allowed, or is in the wrong place, I did check the FAQ and about page and the resource page and didn’t see anything. Also searched for a rules thread and didn’t see anything but if I’m blind, my apologies.

So my nicotine was running out. Up to now it had basically included - all the nicotine juices I had accrued up until I started DIYing (back then I vaped 20mg/ml) and one 500mg nicotine concentrate 72mg/ml. I only vape 2 - 6ish mg/ml (depends on situation) and this was ordered back in 2024 and its still 1/3 full soo it sure has lasted me. It is a benzoate salt. I’ve already ordered another which has just cleared customs.

However I was talking to somebody who stocked up on nicotine concentrate back when you could buy in country and I’m sure that was much cheaper than what I’m doing.

Which got me wondering if my government keeps tightening the screws on vaping, if my source will disappear in the same way (either go out of business or maybe customs makes importing nicotine very risky), either way I was thinking of taking advantage of this source I have now, incase next time it isn’t there. So I was thinking of placing another order, a bigger one.

I could just order more benzoate salt, since I know it works for me. However I have noticed it is a little rougher at the higher concentrations than some store bought salt juices. Not a big issue really since I hardly ever use high concentrate unless I’m going somewhere vaping will be difficult and so I need the puffs I can get in to really count. But I have considering trying some different types.

Anyway so on that note I’m thinking is to pick up some base, since its nearly half the price. I’ve done 50/50 mixes with salts at low concentrations that seemed just fine before so thats all good.

When it comes to bases I’m more concerned about longevity. Should I do, fridge like I do with the salt or maybe freezer? I’m currently away from home right now as my house was hit with a big oak tree in a wind storm and there’s additional complications, I’m getting confused messaging as to when I can return, but regardless when I do or if I have to move somewhere else, it will have to spend some non-insignificant time out of the freezer during traveling as I’ve been jumping around to stay with different family members in the meantime. Would this be an issue, being put in the fridge/freezer, taken out ( potentially for… up to 12 hours), then put back in? I’ve heard with other items once its in, it should stay in until ready for use. Not sure if that applies to nicotine but thats another concern.

Also thinking of trying a different kind of salt. I was thinking Salicylate (but open to others, citrate perhaps?), as the place I’m ordering from says it goes good with menthol/ice juices which is exactly what I vape. Both actually, just nicotine, bases 50/50, menthol and ws23. Buuuuuut I have some reservations both because I remember reading a review from somebody who had a bad reaction to it (from the same site), and because somebody from a different site described it as having a chemically aftertaste.

Since I don’t have any flavour or sweetener to mask the the taste, if it is true, that would be a problem. I’m kind of a mind to just stick with what I know works. But also wondering if something else might work better. If I was smart maybe I could have added a 100mg sample of it on my last order, but I didn’t…

thoughts?

Nah I’m from Canada (BC). You wouldn’t believe the in store prices here. Can only buy 30ml bottles from the store, and its basically $1 per ml at this point its been taxed so much. They basically force you to diy if you aren’t rich.

I’m not aware of any canadian places that will sell under the table like that, but I suppose that could be a solution, if anybody knows of any. Would definitely help shipping time, and probably shipping cost too.

I’ve been ordering from the UK. I know there’s also a chinese place you can order from but the strength of their concentrates kinda scare me (200mg/ml and such), I find their labeling confusing plus shipping time is even worse from what I hear. So yeah I pay a bit more to buy from the UK.

Oh wow from order to arriving in Canada only 8 days. Thats damn impressive.

So nobody have any advice about what kind of salt to get or whether or not to get base, if I were to do a further order?

well i dont vape salt and i am pretty busy and dont use the computer much so i couldn’t read everything you wrote

can you just condense it and give a TLDR

Uh yeah, well thats what the bolded parts were supposed to help with, but I suppose it was kind of incoherent. Basically, I’m worried about sources ( I only know of two ) disappearing or becoming… unavailable to my country. Was thinking of placing a larger order while I can, just incase there comes a time when I can’t. Just like there was a time you could buy in country without limit or insane taxes.

For bases, basically just concerned about storage, and if freezer, they’d likely have to spend a good amount of time out of there as I’ve been staying with family recently while my house is repaired, so I will need to travel with them.

And for salts, well wondering if I should stick to benzoate, since I know its okay. But I also notice its a little rougher at higher doses than store bought juices. So kind of curious about the other kinds.

I was thinking salicylate. But source also has citrate, lactate, malate and levulinate.

its complicated im having a number of health issues and its hard to use the computer.

i would recommend you have enough nic for 5 - 10 years
i use about 120ml of 200mg a year

im not sure why you are worried you can use gloves and glasses and a funnel ya know

nic will last 10 years or longer in the freeZer if you store it in glass with a good seal like boston rounds with a poly cap. I use 120ml siZe for convenience

This may be of help.
Store in freezer for longer periods but nice salts does not oxidize like free base and will hold it’s PH level, so will be ok to pour some onto smaller containers for personal use.
Nicotine Benzoate.
Nic B appears to reduce or neutralise the taste of nicotine and with a near PH (around PH 6.5) this results in an easy and soft throat hit.
In research nic B was shown to have best properties in taste reduction and throat irritation and maintenance of nicotine stability making it one of the preferred salts

Nicotine Salicylate.
One of the more natural of the nic salts as it is commonly found in fruit, vegetables, herbs, nuts, and teas. Like nic B the lower PH provides an enhanced and smooth vape.
Nic S is slightly more acidic (PH 4.8)
Flavour panels found it to be smooth and little or no flavour changes and nicotine delivery was reported to be strong but without any throat hit.
Nic S can have a slight chemical taste when mixed with weak or non-existant flavours.

Nicotine Malate.
Nic M is recommended with fruits as it can give a sour experience, while smooth and delicate the malic acid can reduce coil life. PH levels ranging between PH 3-6

A PH level of 7 is considered neutral as it’s the PH level of water at 25°C, lower than 7 more acidic, higher than 7 more Alkaline.

Ah yeah, since I don’t flavour my juices outside of icing agents, and it appears that the chemical taste thing could be true, I guess it probably isn’t for me. Maybe if I still added sweeteners, but I just can’t. Thats unfortunate.

I wonder why my benzoate, for example… when I vaped at ~10mg/ml at my moms ( where I had to go down the stairs and out of the apartment and onto the street,) I really needed a good strong hit for a the shit I had to go through to get one in… in that case I noticed the throat hit seemed much harsher than when I vaped 20mg/ml before.

But it could also be, just, me not being used to higher doses like that, it could have been the store bought juice was simply exaggerating its nicotine content, or it could be that my supplier may not run the cleanest operation. I don’t know.

But I know for 99% of the time, it works well enough at my ~4mg/ml concentration… So I’ll still stick with it, and probably pick up some base too, to save money, do a 50/50 thing, like I’ve done before.

Thanks. And the fast shipping time has given me even more confidence about getting a second order in without trouble. Thanks.

To the OP, if you had success in getting something in, I’m in the same boat right now - just ran out of my own hoard of 100mg (mixed down to 50mg) and looking for a new reliable source, as my previous one completely dried up 4yr ago.
