Got the house “almost” fixed up to sell!
Had some vinyl planking installed in the master bathroom to cover some yellowed Linoleum.
The evaporated water pipe for the HVAC got clogged a few years ago and left a nice stain on the ceiling that was painted, we changed the color of a bedroom from pink (for the g-grand daughter) to an egg shell white,
Dunno what you call them, the “arms” you use to push yourself up from the toilets were replaced since the rubber grips were splitting and looking tacky… Little touch up on the cab/cupboards paint, front porch rails scraped and painted.
Patio cover replaced that we got screwed on.
Gotta little Carpet to be repaired in the hallway in front of the guest bathroom that needs repair. One of our cats think it makes for a great scratching post. The real post must give off negative vibes. I have plenty of spare carpet from the last time we had carpet replaced. Never the less, the wife wants the carpet in the master bedroom replaced. No idea why…
Hired a couple people to toss “crap” into a 4 yard dumpster that’s 3/4 full. Got it Thursday, goes away today. I’ll get another one next week. It’s amazing how much shit you accumulate. Clothes that no linger fit, sheets and blankets for a California King size bed that don’t fit our regular king… Old shoes, ugly ass ties I have no excuse to wear any more. But wait, there’s a hell of a lot more!
Same folks helped with the packing of non valuables. Wife has a lot of glassware we don’t dare leave in the hands of amateurs. Lots of lead chrystal from some Waterford joint that’s supposed to be fancy. I call it get out of jail free chrystal. Murano glass from the Murano islands in Venice Italy.
Bone china dishware, wine glasses. DAMN we have a lot of junk!
So, thanks to the cost of gas, it’ll cost over well over $25,000 to hire a moving company to move across country. Excluding storage while we look for a house. A neighbor said it’d be a LOT cheaper to use a POD, have an estate sale and buy all new “stuff”. Did a little checking and she aint kidding! We don’t need the bed in a spare bedroom and my old office with desks we don’t need.
Lots of tools in the garage, a dining room table that’s got some scratches (Not too noticeable)
We’ll hire a moving company to pack the rest of our junk and load the POD.
Looking for a 2 to 3 bedroom house between 800 and 1,500 square feet. At least one bath, preferably 2. Primary bedroom, a room for the wife for sewing and quilting, making ceramic dolls…etc. and a dry dock for building model wooden ships. That I doubt I’ll do, but I dare to dream.
I need a shed, or some unit I can insulate, heat and cool so I can vape. We’re in California and I’m used to triple digit temps in the summer. Winter temps are from 60 degrees to 80 and 60 is so cold, I need to put on a coat. Summers in Tennessee will be low to mid 90’s major humidity. Winters will average mid 40’s!
Burrs on my hips, slipped disks, massive quantities of arthritis and pinched nerves. I can stand for 20 maybe 30 minutes before I’m in excruciating pain and go sit in my computer chair. The couch and this chair are the only places I can sit without a bunch of pain. I’m not a couch potato. Maybe 2 hours of TV a night with the wife. I lay in bed and grunt and groan in pain.
When it’s real bad, I drink too much so I can go to sleep. A pinched nerve runs down my hip and feels like bursitis. My hip hurts SO, bad, then it heads down my groin and attacks my left nut.
Why am I telling you this? One, it explains why I doubt I’ll be building tall ships, and two, that’s what old people do. You get a handful of old farts in a card game and it’s always a game to see who is in worse shape.
House should be ready around the 4th of October, Realtor says houses are selling in around two weeks here. 30 day escrow and we should be in Tennessee mid November. Figure at most a month to find and buy a house, then 2 weeks escrow because we’ll pay cash. Paid $280,000 for this place and it’ll be listed at $525,000. $40K in closing costs, we should walk away with around $485,000.
Houses in Tennessee run between $170,000 to $250,000. LOL, that’ll put a nice chunk in our retirement funds. Problem is, where to stay while we look for a house. We have pets. Stupid Terriers, but living and breathing. $7,500 for a hotel for 50 days.
There are furnished homes for traveling nurses that go for $700/month, no leases. She contacted a few and explained our circumstances and said she’d been an RN for 46 years. She was told the houses sit empty a lot so we’d be welcome.
I’m excited. I’m stoked. But I’m a hell of a lot more nervous!
