I know not everyone works much with cherry- it can be difficult. I found that out a couple of years ago when I started working on a cherries & cream mix. I’ve had it on hold for a while & now I’m thinking of revisiting it again. I previously used a touch of Lemon Sicily before (along with cherries from FW &LA), but I believe it may need a little more than that. The cherries I will be using are FA Black Cherry, INW Cherries & a little bit (half of the first two) TFA Maraschino Cherry.
My first thought would be lime, cherry lime is a great flavor combo. Cherry and cream sounds really good too. Cherry tobacco might be nice too if tobacco is your thing.
Thanks VM.
Like I said, I have used a little bit of Lemon Sicily before, like .25% to help, but it was not that great. I still want the cherries & cream to be the main profile, but I’m wondering about maybe a little meringue, vanilla swirl, mandarin or maybe even a splash of pineapple to help set off that cherry flavor. I have TFA Lemon Lime as well as the others I’ve mentioned. I wouldn’t be interested in any tobacco flavorings, though. I appreciate the input.
With a cherry cream you could maybe add a strawberry to give it a little more soft sweetness? Now I haven’t actually worked with any cherry flavors since I started diy, but I did try some premade cherry liquids and they always seemed very one dimensional and artificial. So you would probably want to do two things to the cherry layer of your recipe. 1) add in another cherry 2) add in another fruit to push it more towards the realistic zone. Hopefully someone who’s actually worked with cherry flavor before can give you some better ideas!
habe you mixed the tpa marachino cherry ??? i would be extremely careful with that , its strong and b4 i dumped it out completely it ruined most of my mixes , i would have to say the worst flave ive came across
Thanks, but yeah, I learned how strong the TFA was right away when I first got it. It’s nothing like the weaker, FW Maraschino Cherry I also have. I only use the TFA at .5-.75%. I have the other cherries that I use more prominently, like the FA, INW & LA, but the maraschinos are nice for a little sweeter flavor.
I liked the idea VapeyMama had about strawberry (I love the Shisha) & I believe in very small amounts, maybe even some raspberry, bilberry or blackberry, along with a little Lemon Sicily or Lemon Lime would help as well.
@Howard_Hughes coconut is always good with a cherry mix - i have a few cherry mixes under my belt and while I don’t think any of them are ready for a public release I find that a smidge of coconut and some cream can make cherry nicer.
Malic acid is present in cherries naturally so adding some Sour Tfa will make any cherry flavor pop.
That one cherry right there is a disaster to work w/ makes the entire batch smell and taste horribly chemical even just a drop would do it for me.
I agree w/ using the mix of Black cherry & cherries ( although I only have INW cherry ) I do like it mixed w/ a black cherry. I like mixing cherries w/ Strawberry , champagne, Watermelon, lemon lime.
I wish you luck cherry is really difficult to work w/
If you haven’t yet, try flavorah rainier cherry. It can be strong but seems to me less synthetic tasting. I use a teeny amount with peach, dragonfruit and orange.
Rainier Cherry FLV is a nice flavor but if you go up much over 0.75 it gets really wild tasting ( like a wild cherry ) it’s a great one to push that Cherry note at lower % 1-2 drops per 10-15 mls usually is all I needed.
That made me think of something else to add. Grape it is really sweet and when you pair it w/ Cherry it helps take down some of the chemical note. I will use grape FW or grape juice TFA around 0.5-1.0 this just helps give us a juicy sweetness. I have grape FLV too man is it one of the sweetest flavor’s I’ve ever tasted. I’d use that one nowadays at 1 drop per 10-15 mls.
Thanks for all the responses. Very nice!
Woftam- thanks for the suggestion. Although I do have coconut, I hadn’t even thought of it. Very original indeed.
Amy- yeah I know about the maraschino (especially FW), but I only add a tad to my INW & FA, if only for the sweetness. Your CBS recipe looks really interesting, although I would have to acquire the champagne. I have never used that one before. Your suggestion of grape sounds good as well. I believe I will try to squeak some in. Thank you also for the percentage advice on the Ranier, as well.
Buhhh- I have read good things about the Ranier, but haven’t gotten to try it yet. It goes on my wishlist today.
Thank you all for the advice & suggestions.
