It is, though sadly The Inception Horn had to be in the trailers for most action movies for a decade.
I decided to start a new theme by revisiting Torchwood: Children of Earth. As itâs series three in a sci-fi show, Iâll cover the basics tomorrow. Though it does have one hell of stake in event television: The whole series was shown in 5 parts, in one week (so almost 5 hours of drama) on BBC One, in the slot before the Ten Oâclock News. So the ultimate watershed billing beyond what others dream of.
I watched this old favourite of mine late last night after the lady of the house had retired to bed. Itâs set in Victorian England (which always gives me a feeling of deja vu for some reason) and stars the late Sean Connery and Donald Sutherland as his sidekick amongst other well known actors. This film almost has a tangible feeling of that era and Sean Connery really plays his character well. Itâs one film that I always enjoy watching again as it has plenty of action and thereâs never a dull moment.
Okey Dokey, Children of Earth and Torchwood.
Torchwood is an adult spin-off of Doctor Who and takes its name from attempts to conceal a recording of the show in order to avoid excessive interest and fees (It being an anagram of the other and not as complicated as the Blue Harvest cover).
The lead is John Barrowmanâs (Shark Attack 3: Megalodon) Captain Jack Harkness: An agent from the 51st Century who is trapped on Earth in the 21st. But due to an event in Doctor Who (The Bad Wolf herself) he is unable to die or age as being a near fixed-point in spacetime.
Ianto Jones (his lover during the Children of Earth) and Gwen Harper (a former police officer in Cardiff) are the surviving members of The Torchwood Institute in season 3. The institution itself has no governmental oversight and was establish by Queen Victoria to handle odd events and to bring The Doctor to justice.
The key additional character to mention is John Frobisher, played by Peter Capaldi, who is a civil servant with knowledge of the 456. And, The Doctor links (when he regenerates - I am avoiding the number of regenerations as it is contested) that he chose this face to remind him of something.
Oddly in the moments around Ashildr becoming undying.
I wonât share further details (though the day two trailer doesnât give much away) as there is a season 4 which was released in the same manner: Miracle Day, when death just stops.
The day two trailer which has the 456âs arrival:
You really got my mind pondering much earlier works and finding an excuse to use them to teach something. Oddly, when The Great Train Robbery is raised, it always conjures Ronnie Biggs and the idiocy of the gang in my mind. After that, the finale of Life on Mars emerges to the surface.
I liked this one. Gave me the heebie jeebies when that ice cream man showed up!
It was odd that they used this character in all trailers and promotion but heâs a near âblink and you miss itâ presence in the movie.
Well, I was reading about the new Tetris Movie to see if it accurately depicts the insane tale of licencing to game outside of the USSR (the only reason I have to consider watching it), and I was instantly reminded of Black20âs amazing trailer from what now seems an age ago:
Then I ended up watching Robot Jox: A solid Bank Holiday Monday after lunch watch.
For those unfamiliar with such a cinematic titan - hereâs a great retrospective, as ever, from GBF:
Hopefully one day, one fine and glorious day, Minesweeper will get out of development hell.
Last night, I was mostly watching The Sin Eater, also oddly titled The Order in some territories.
It revolves around Heath Ledgerâs Fr. Alex âSpaghettioâ Bernier and his investigation into the unusual death of the head of the long dead Carolingians. After seeing the room where he died has unusual writings in Aramaic (which they kindly made less guttural in the movie) which leads him to seek an antiquarian dealer who his late mentor, Dominic, bought from. [@Psycho_316 My apologies, I forgot that old books are part of this one too]. After, examining a few works, he realises that Dominic relied on a Sin Eater (one who can forgive sins outside of the grace of The Church) at his death. This then sparks a quest to find and hopefully kill âThe Otherâ (Why I thought The Order was an odd choice of title.
This movie is slower paced and spends more time looking at duty, love, faith, and eternity than in lots of action. I personally love it due to each character being conflicted and having distinct ways of wrestling with the divine - remind me of a much younger me.
Though this examination of themes is good, it also falls into the usual tropes of priests being celibate and other shallow reflections when the nature of duty and judgment would easily fill-out a script. So, it is definitely an interesting movie, with a few quirks, which is part of the very odd indulgence genre: I think Dogma would be classed as the most famous in this group.
Sounds a lot more interesting then non stop peppa pig and ben and hollie
Luckily mine is getting into Black Clover: I can deal with mental anime and grimoires.
Mine are both in their twenties now but I will never forget the torture of The Teletubbies.
Drove me insane and I still have shudders when I see or hear any reference to them.
I love the teletubbies
Whereas I hate them with a vengeance.
If and when I ever have grandchildren hopefully they no longer exist as I donât think I could take a second round.
Oh they will outlive us all lol
I may need to arrange a psychological test for you.
Were you in the habit of glorious levels of cannabis consumption when you first watched it?
That depends on which actors we judge it from. A few were fired and one has already died.
No i was not. Havent partaken in those activities in a long time. With my 2yr old she loves it and we sing the theme song together lol.
