What are your hobbies?

What are your hobbies and/or what hobbies would you like to get into besides ejuice recipes?

As I (and my kids) get older, I find myself having more time and resources on my hands. I also work as a drug counselor from home and I get a lot of downtime so I’ve developed quite a few new hobbies and interests. I’ll share a couple…

One of my hobbies has been growing exotic, extremely hot, and rare hot peppers. I grow them from seed starting in February and get them out into mini greenhouses around late May to early June, depending on the weather. I also breed new species of peppers and share them with pepper lovers online.

Another one is cologne making. I know a “homemade” cologne sounds cheap, but if done right they can be extremely high quality. I’ve always collected nice colognes and the cologne distributor I buy from (ScentBird) has a lot of great information on what kind of scents are used for each cologne. Some of these profiles include leather, bergamot, anise, musk, jasmine, and so on… The scents they use are EXTREMELY concentrated.
On The Perfumer’s Apprentice (TPA) website you will notice that they not only produce flavors but they produce the ingredients for perfume/cologne making. You can even buy beginners kits.
I like unique and spicy colognes like Burberry brand and Gisada brand colognes so I’ve been trying to make some using their scent profiles (such as peppercorns, cedarwood, and apricot).

One hobby that I’ve been interested in getting into would be creating my own flavor concentrates to use in vape juice. This requires gaining the knowledge on the chemical compounds, mainly esters as well as artificial flavors to make up the flavor/scent profiles needed. Finding suppliers on esters is not easy but definitely not impossible.

I’ve been wondering “what makes up the classic bubblegum flavor?” If you may have noticed, I’ve been posting a lot of vape juice recipes lately and I have been posting some of my best bubblegum recipes using a variety of different bubblegum flavors. My favorite so far is my “Banana Bubblegum” recipe because the banana goes great with the bubblegum flavor. I just love bubblegum flavored e-juice, and I try to buy every flavor made. I recently did some research on what flavors are in plain bubblegum and was quite surprised. They are mainly esters from a combination of fruits such as banana, strawberry, pineapple, and berries. For example, some of the esters used are: Amyl acetate which provides sweet banana notes, Isoamyl butyrate which provides a pineapple flavor, Ethyl butyrate which provides a sweet, juicy pineapple essence, and Methyl anthranilate which has a grape-like aroma.
So I will do some more research and possibly get back to you guys if you’re interested.

So what about yourselves? What hobbies have you been into or which ones would you like to try? I’m curious and always looking for new ones.

Well, since my horse passed away, my life turned upside down. Big time feeling sorry for myself, so I joined the gym. It’s been amazing. I’ve never needed a hobby because horses have been my life for years. So the gym/fitness has been my hobby the past several week.

Become a snow bird. Wife got a couple of months off so we headed South to the Gulf Coast leaving sub 0 F to 75 degrees. Followed the Gulf from Mississippi and now in Arizona and spending a couple of days in Tucson AZ and shot up North into the mountains towards Flagstaff to spend a week with old friends. Next week headed to Vegas.

I guess that really depends on the day you’re here. I woke up to a dusting of snow Sunday morning, followed by 2 mornings of sub-freezing. And then there’s this one time last year…

I’m from the Chicago area and it’s been -0 F at night. I’m a little lower than Flagstaff at Camp Verde. It’s in low 30’s now but looking forward to the mid 60’s this afternoon. Don’t miss the high in the teens back home but know I have to be home around the 1st of March. Haven’t been to AZ in 55 years. Gotten so crowded. :sob:

:muscle: Get it girl!

Kids are taking up more time these days, taxi service to rehearsals counts as a hobby, right?

I used to compete more in strongman but it’s still fun.

When the weather is nicer I fly the tow plane for a glider club.

And coffee. I used to roast a lot. These days it’s just drinking it.

Uber (lol) indeed counts!

I’m working on cardio and strength training. I’ve figured out, one day cardio + legs, next day cardio + upper body. 5 days a week seems doable. That’s 13k steps not 3 lol ascent machine has been my go to.

Well, that’s a fun hobby! I love flying!

Coffee is life :joy: only 1 C a day though. Thanks for sharing the photos!!

Whatever combo that gets you in and keeps you in.
I’ve lost count of kids that have come to me asking for the way to get as strong as possible. 6 weeks, that’s when they give up. Then they ask how long it takes at this level, and they die a little when I say 10 years. One single person has had the gumption to stick it out. He’s currently Illinois’ Strongest Man.

These days I just convince people to do whatever they want that keeps them coming back. That’s the best possible outcome. :100:

Pleased to meet your acquaintance @Mike-H, you have some interesting hobbies.
My hobbies are collecting European antiques particularly English silver from the Georgian and Victorian period. I also enjoy gardening and wildlife, I like learning about European history from the medieval period onwards, Gross Anatomy and I’m no stranger to the kitchen where I can be found making my favourite curries etc.
I too like certain aromas like patchouli, vetiver and sandalwood and my favourite Eau de Parfum is Terre D’Hermes and also Creed Aventus, I like sharp woody aromas which seems to suit me best.

Idk if I would call it a hobby but I’ve been a practitioner of Yoga, Qigong and flex band exercising for many years, yoga since my teens. But my other diy hobby besides vaping is diy around the house, mostly plumbing and electrical. Nothing huge.

I just purchased a new M18 impact driver and the new Zip Seat Extractor so I can rebuild my Symmons shower valve. Gulp, I’m nervous about the hot and cold seats, they tend to become frozen. I only have one shower in the house so if I blow this I’ll be going to the local YMCA for showers (hope not) :grimacing:

I’m not the most experienced gardener but I love it and enjoy the wildlife that comes around. Recently we’ve had a young Cooper’s Hawk and a large Falcon trying to prey on the smaller birds and squirrels. The young hawk is about the size of a squirrel and I saw a squirrel go face to face with it in a tree. Can always count on a squirrel to do ballsy things!

We recently had a walkway and a new fence installed. I wanted to place gravel underneath the fence to prevent grass from growing. Looking at other properties, I thought it would be a fairly easy job. I would be wrong. Digging a shallow trench and hauling the gravel proved to be a bit more strenuous than I thought, especially since I graveled several other areas. Just glad the worst is over. See that pesky, invasive Japanese knotweed? Any good suggestions to get rid of it? I heard you can pour or spray weed killer into the hollow stalks after being cut down. Do you know of any chemicals that won’t be so toxic? Agricultural vinegar perhaps?
