Man, can’t even be a flagger, and accept water.
Bizarro World!
Our Master Insurance Policy was dropped because of my condo neighbor’s last claim. Now we’ll be paying through the nose…if we can even find a new carrier. Insurance companies are dropping homeowners left and right due to climate change related incidences. So far my experience with living in a condo is I don’t recommend it. Ya never know who’s living next to you and what they’re going to do to mess things up for everyone else. Screw it, I wonder if I can check into an old age home and call it a life
I gave you a bunch of reactions because I had so many just reading your post. I’m so sorry! What is the story behind your neighbor’s last claim?
I have not…I dont even know where i would start…
I don’t own a Guar but I could sort of talk you through it. @Lostmarbles and @mjag I believe are also good at repairing mods. If you’re really interested I suppose it could be done in a PM with photos and such. We can talk later if you want.
I’ll try to keep it brief. They’re snowbirds and vacate their condo here for their condo in FL for the winter. I always ask if they secure their unit properly (for pipe bursts, etc.). The last time they left there was a huge flood on February 5 of this year that came into our condo. We were lucky. Their unit had $30,000 worth of damage. That $30k claim plus another claim they made in the past, caused the carrier to drop our insurance. They’ve been here before us and with the same insurance company since 1989. Personally, I think it stinks for an insurer to drop you for 2 claims within 35 years of loyal business but that’s insurance for you. Right now, insurance companies are dropping homeowner policies left and right due to climate change incidents. The company is Vermont Mutual and Idk if you’ve heard but the state of Vermont just had horrific flooding.
So, Vermont Mutual is bleeding money right now alongside other insurance companies. My advice to you and everyone…think hard before filing a homeowners claim. We’re now in the era of increasing floods, fire, hurricanes, tornadoes and earthquakes. Insurance companies are freaking out and will drop you on a dime. Take it from me.
My thoughts are: if it’s already broken, why not find out if you can fix it? You can’t make it more-broken.
I agree with you and I remember hearing your story about the flooding of your condo and the damage it did. I don’t see why your neighbor isn’t the one carrying the burden due to her own incompetence of not securing the unit properly before deserting it. I already know insurance is dropping people. In CA, insurance companies are abandoning their customers due to high crime and thefts, because the elites of CA’s policies of favoring the criminals over enforcing law and order.
I was fortunate to have a good insurance company back when I rented out an apartment behind my house. My tenant was a Vietnam vet that was a heavy alcoholic, was also a smoker and had severe PTSD. He had the most beautiful black German Shepherd. He wasn’t supposed to be smoking indoors. I caught him smoking inside on several occasions and I feared he would pass out with a cigarette in his hand, so I started seriously saving the rent money I got from him in case I ever had to evict him. He was also causing some major and frequent disturbances like waking us up at 3 am screaming, while completely plastered due to alcohol. Other times, it would be in the middle of the day and he would be passed out on the sidewalk, right next to traffic. The police were called by many neighbors over the course of a year because of his disturbances and I had many talks with him to try to get him help he needed. You know as well as I do that if someone refuses to accept help, there isn’t a lot you can do.
One night during early spring, I smelled smoke, but attributed it to another neighbor’s wood stove. The next day, I knocked on his door to tell him that I was going to spray his property for weeds. There was no answer so I left. The next day after that, I was awoken by the police. My tenant’s sister was concerned because she hadn’t heard from her brother and she had a key to his apartment. Sure enough, he had died on his couch due to being passed out with a lit cigarette. The smoke I smelled earlier was actually the smoldering smoke that didn’t actually burst into flames because the windows and doors were shut due to the cold weather. His dog also died in that situation and what was so sickening was that the dog had already broken through 1 of the 2 double paned windows. Can you imagine that guilt? Knowing that if I only had a single pane window, the dog likely would have been able to jump out? Of course, if the dog had jumped out, then there would have been a lot more oxygen flow and the apartment would have gone up in flames and likely burned down my house as well since it was so close.
It was gruesome, seeing those bodies. I had just enough saved up to pay for the insurance deductible, only having .16 cents left over. I was newly married then and was just starting out in my adult life, so I had very little finances of my own back then.
I got a new apartment built due to having good insurance and I made sure my next tenant was a non smoker. It sounds like I am a cold person, but I really did try, I really did care and grappled with watching him decline so rapidly due to his addictions.
Absolutely! I have a scientific background so I am able to follow the courses that nature takes, but if you look back almost a century ago, you will see that the temperatures in the 1920’s were a few degrees hotter than the hottest temperature that occurred just a few days ago. You will also see parallels to other natural disasters also roughly about a century ago.
I am not here to question or argue the ebb and flows of the Earth’s cycle, but this was also all predicted in the Bible, including the rise of a multitude of sins leading to an environment where morality no longer exists. (i.e. Sodom and Gomorrah? The Fall of Rome? The Marxist Revolution?)
You are right, insurance companies are freaking out and will do whatever they can to protect their bottom line. Remember SBV’s CEO pulling out all his stocks and skipping the country when his bank fell? Sam Bankman-Fried? Bernie Madoff?
Either way, it is hard to put your hard earned money into an allegedly trusted institution like the Banks or Insurance companies when very little is actually guaranteed.
You are one special gal, Muth! Much gratitude and respect to you. If you and Nikko can get your asses over here, I’ve got plenty of room for you both.
Exactly, and since he has backups he can use that one for practice, unless he just isn’t into that sort of thing. I love trying to fix stuff. He should be able to find a similar button and just replace the whole thing or maybe find a spring behind the original that needs to be adjusted or replaced. Buttons are easy, it’s the boards that are tricky. I received a mod once that came with a fried board. Nothing I could do and the company didn’t sell their boards.
I have trouble hearing stories like that. It’s so, so, so so sad, especially when an innocent animal dies. People with serious issues sometimes have no clue how they affect the lives of others.
I have some similar ideas about the weather vs climate but maybe we can talk in a PM so I don’t derail the thread. I have a vid you might like and agree with.
Could you please explain the 1920s compared to now and the intervening trends.
Also, could you also explain why you are making this Biblical comparison. Genesis 7-9 doesn’t support any point other than that a drunk can save the world. And, I do not think that you would be relying on 2 Esdras to support your claim (Though many who opt for Biblical literalism also adopt the pseudepigrapha - A complete contradiction of the whole foundation of any theological stance).
Obviously, you are an intelligent and caring vaper who would never rely on such things. But then, I have seen more to confirm demons than an interventionist god. .
So good to have you back Squirrel .
Squirrely, you’re back!
Nice to see you back Professor.
That just sickens me. In my opinion that’s attempted murder.
Apparently, this is the new boogyman being shared around the web. I’m in Northern CA and if this HAD happened it would have been plastered all over the news for days.
Thank you for sharing. I will send my husband the link. His company sent out this as a store wide alert. I find Snopes very shady, but I will pass this on to him regardless.
