While I know the flag retirement protocol very well, we MAY have to differ on this. I don’t know if you actually KNOW the protocol, but let me assist you, as more knowledge benefits us all, lest we make crude “burning” vs. “burning” comparisons.
The U.S. Flag Code states that when a flag “is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display,” it should be destroyed in a dignified way.
I’m going to hazard to guess that not only were the flags depicted in the video NOT ready for retirement, but it was NOT done in a dignified manner.
Oh we generally do differ on most things my friend, though I am always open to contrary views to any point of my own: It’s how we grow as a collection of fearful bald apes flying through a baffling universe.
Personally, I view the song and video as misguided, particularly as many seem to make everything a red rag political issue over the past decade or so: Just hearing about plans to ban Hey Arthur over sexualising children made my eyes roll in the manner Mrs. Squirrel regards as my only open expression of emotion in public. And, I am sure that my persistent reminding that America is supposed to have a separation between Church and State will piss many people off.
I’m currently in the UK sorting a few things and we don’t give a damn. Frankly a bit of extra heating here is always welcome. Korea and China always have their ones on all offices and classrooms. But here, displaying then will generally make you regarded as a massive racist (outside of very fine circumstances) - flying St. George’s flag (the flag of England) will always make you seem racist, particularly if you pronounce England with 3 syllables.
Sadly a sizeable presence do try to force embedding one form of Christianity as the only acceptable form. I still refuse to recognise the change in the US’s motto: E pluribus unum from pluribus et unum is an amazing aspiration.
The general idea of accepting the conventions and general principals of what is mostly still an unwritten constitution is more of a binding factor. Blindly worshipping a cloth pattern, institution or even the monarchy is not expected.
Well to blindly adhere to anything isn’t something which requires acceptance: If I say that my god wants all people called Colin dead, well that does require some extraordinary evidence.
Perhaps you have more optically challenged people over there than we do over here. We may be miles apart on many things, and
I think we are, which is fine, and that’s what this is supposed to be about here.
Maybe you could expand on that, because you’ve watched the video. In my opinion, it was a very skillfully produced song and video. It was released and as soon as the predictable “opposition” came out, the “racist” and “dog whistling” started LOL. It’s actually sad, and here’s why. Certain “groups” of people were, and are being told what to think, and what to believe, “blindly” to quote you. I’m fairly certain you won’t, but if you actually watched the reaction videos above, you will clearly see, that those who were being “blindly” told what to think, and accept, are NOT. It’s also not just a handful of people, as any amount of searching, reveals more of the same.
For someone who is clearly sensitive to “blindly”, I would have thought you would have found this MOST curious to say the least.
We can stay miles apart, and still have conversations none the less.
Tanz Mit by Laibach is a peaceful and unifying song about coming together regardless of who you are to enjoy a decent knees-up. Although, if you don’t speak German, or understand the intent behind their works, then the optics (an odd term which has become increasingly more common of late) can easily lead to others viewing it in an another light. The same also tends to apply to Rammstein, though their love of traditional German recipes is more easily lost when listening to Pussy.
The return of rarer butterflies in key areas: I remember some stating what one was extinct 15 years ago and I just had to stand up and take a photo to show that one of my buddleia had 6 on it.
