This is a recipe I’ve been working on for a little bit for a spiced pear and almond cake. Still need to jiggle the percentages around a bit I think on the cake body and it needs something more up front on the inhale, maybe some green apple for a bit of bite?
I’m really happy with where it’s heading though. It’s like a doughy pear and almond cake with a honey cream icing that you get on the exhale.
I’m starting to feel like I’m making recipes that aren’t total crap and it’s exciting.
Edit: upon further vaping I think the milk & honey needs to be turned down a wee bit too.
As an open flavor base users can enter flavors however they want, correct or incorrect, but for recipe search results and for others to find your recipes it’s wise to use the correct manufactures flavor name, resellers often change the name on there website and labels.
@TorturedZen put together a great Users Guide to Creating Your Flavor Stash:
I hear you, and I get that most of us here already know exactly what we’re talking about regardless of how many different “fizz pop” names are floating around.
It’s not like we’re trying to navigate the 50 million variations of strawberry, but we don’t always need to be overly pedantic when everyone in the thread clearly understands the context.
Honestly, it’s the non-gatekeepers who helped me find a better cola in the process.
I forget the name of the youtube channel but I think it’s AllTheRecipes, but my wife is a big fan of one of their staff, and she was throwing together Easy Lemon Bars, and wow, this probably won’t do it justice, but nothing better during the warmer Summer months.
You just reminded me I used to get a lemon starburst flavoured disposable that I loved! The only lemons I’ve played with are FLV Lemonade and Cap Lemon Lime. I really need some more lemons in my cupboard, thanks for the reminder. That looks yum.
I’m puffing on a classic style that I’m sure you’ve all tried, an apple pie with vanilla ice cream. But this is my first attempt at it with more than 3 ingredients and I’m pretty happy with the outcome after a 2 week steep;
4.5% Apple Pie TPA
2.5% Fuji Apple FA
1% Cinnamon Danish (DX) TPA
2% Vanilla Bean Ice Cream CAP
2% Bavarian Cream (DX) TPA
The Cinnamon Danish was the last addition I made but I honestly feel like even at 1% it adds a tiny bit too much of a harsh cinnamon note in this mix. I don’t normally get that from it. Must be the Apple Pie mixing with it? I love cinnamon but something about it is just a little on the harsh side.
Thanks mate. I think TPA apple pie was probably the second flavour I really started playing around with, it’s been a favourite of mine for the few months I’ve been mixing. I actually just got a 30ml bottle of it but I’ve enjoyed every FA flavour I’ve tried so far, so I’ll keep that in mind for next restock. Those apple fillings might both need to go on the list for next order though. I love apple in vapes.
What makes you say it’s an interesting approach? I actually thought it was pretty middle of the road as far as recipes go lol.
I started with 8% Apple Pie, that was good so I added 3% Fuji Apple. That was even better but tasted a bit too ‘spiced’ from the apple pie.
So I added 3% VBIC hoping the creaminess would mask the spice a bit. It didn’t, plus it was too much vanilla.
So I dropped the Apple Pie back to 6%, kept Fuji at 3% and reduced VBIC to 2%. Still a bit too spicy but the ice cream layer was tasting nice.
Next mix I added the bavarian cream at 2% to add more cream without so much vanilla. I also dropped the Apple Pie to 4.5%. The ice cream layer was tasting real good now, and the amount of apple was good, but now there wasn’t quite enough spice.
Next came Cinnamon Danish at 1%, and reducing the Fuji by 0.5% just to mix it in a bit more, and that brings us to the mix I’m at today.
I hope that explanation made sense? I also hope the process make sense? Appreciate anyone’s input because I am still very new.
I typically almost never take any Cinnamon Danish over 0.5% especially TPA as the cinnamon can get really overpowering. The TPA Apple Pie can be good but it needs to be over 6% to gain anything from it.
Here’s an Apple Pie that I did for an episode of Wayne’s DIYorDie Mid Week Critique a few years ago. It was supposed to be an Apple Tart but as Tim (AAFL) stated it isn’t really a tart but a hell of a good Apple Pie.
I was trying the cinnamon danish as it’s new to to me. I wanted to see what it did with the apple pie as I’ve used it a lot before. I had also just been doing lots of Acetyl Pyrazine experimenting right before this and was trying to get a bit less of it in this mix overall by replacing some of the pie. But I think you’re right. The Danish didn’t add enough to make it worth the effort, it seems it might even be detracting from the recipe. A lesson for next time.
I’ve only used it in one other recipe at 3% !!! It was the main bakery element and didn’t seem overpowering, but I only tried a few ml and maybe I had some vape tongue going on that day or something. I might open that bottle up again tomorrow and have another assessment of the cinnamon flavour based on what I’m tasting with this mix and what yours saying.
Thanks for the input team, you’re all so helpful. I’m not going to bother developing this specific recipe any further but it’s all learning. Plus I got some good new flavours and recipes for the next time I want to make a pie.
And you two! I came here for Apple Pie advice and now I’ve got a lemon hole to dive down
