Or, as Wifey would say: A full disclosure of sensory receptors as well as descriptive vocabulary is required. She is Chinese and more direct.
Loving the Lovage with Milk ‘N Honey in this mix ,
This is a WIP
Huge shout out to @SessionDrummer… the Cola (SSA) is amazeballs, and I think his Cherry Cola recipe is just the tip of the iceberg of what can be done with this flavor…
Dr. Pepper supposably has 23 flavors so this is just a start, chime in with any suggestions
I’ve been researching ideas for a Dr. Pepper recipe and with blatant plagiarism have arrived at four recipes but hasten to add I haven’t tried any of them yet and have substituted certain concentrates with ones I have.
I’ve also tried TFA Dr.Pop which is sort of ok but not quite there and very weak too. FW Dr. Soda is better as a stand-alone in my opinion.
From what I read TFA Plum and FA Black Cherry can be useful ones to try.
My four recipes are;
A
Dr.Pop TFA 6%
Cherry Crush FW 5%
Coke Hiliq 3%
Cinnamon Ceylon 1%
B
Marzipan FA 1%
Cherry FA 3%
Bourbon VT 2%
Caramel Juice Factory 0.5%
Cola FA 2.5%
C
Plum TFA 3%
Black Cherry FA 1.5%
Cola SSA 1.5%
Sugar Cane VT 1%
Cinnamon Ceylon FA .75%
D
Plum TFA 3%
Cola SSA 1%
Ripe Cherry SSA .75%
Sugar Cane VT 0.5%
Cinnamon Ceylon FA 1%
Recipe’D’ has my interest spiked the most.
Miscalculated at various times dependent on what concentrates I had at that time and in truth I won’t have VT sugar cane or SSA ripe cherry until my last chefs order arrives which hopefully will be in the coming week.
My son really enjoyed Hiliqs Dr.Pepper which was fine when I was ordering from them but due to Australia’s recent law change that’s not going to be any time soon and he finished the last bottle.
Hence my efforts to try and develop one.
I reiterate I have not tried any of these and for all I know they could all be absolutely terrible but I’d thought I’d add as you mentioned it.
I’ll add my idea was to mix all four and try them realizing that they could all be misses.
If not perhaps take ideas from one and try them with another.
FA vanilla Tahiti (I think that’s what it’s called) is on my next order as that looks promising too.
Another rabbit hole!
Thank you @Rocky02852, and I agree, the Cola is JUST getting started.
Vanilla, and almond, interesting. Here’s what I’ve found thus far …
The 23 flavors are cola, cherry, licorice, amaretto, almond, vanilla, blackberry, apricot, blackberry, caramel, pepper, anise, sarsaparilla, ginger, molasses, lemon, plum, orange, nutmeg, cardamon, all spice, coriander juniper, birch and prickly ash.
I was going to mention going for Plum (TPA) and Sugar Cane (VTA) as key notes and then spotted that @Gazza7 already raised them. I think switching the Almond or Marzipan for Amaretto Sour (FLV) will give all those notes and skip the need for the Bourbon. For the cherry notes, I think a slightly synthetic syrupy one will do. So, maybe 0.35% Cherry Filling (FLV) and 0.15%-0.25% Black Cherry (FLV).
Edit: Most bourbons will add an oaky back which doesn’t match Dr Pepper.
Thanks @Gazza7, @SessionDrummer, and @SquirrelSmash
Great input, I’ll keep plugging away at the Dr Pepper …
In the meantime, my first public release of a recipe containing a tobacco flavor. For me it’s the best ‘bacco mix I’ve had to date, but that’s a short list
Definitely a very Rocky recipe with all the usual suspects. I hope I haven’t given you a Lovage addiction.
You’re not referring to M&H and coffees are you… I’m not falling into your tricks @SquirrelSmash I’m not buying Lovage Root… I swear, I won’t!
You finally made it, it had to coffee in it, didn’t it?
Join us! Lovage is your friend.
NEVER! I won’t! I’m not getting trapped in your web… Lovage… puah…
I mean, look at that:
You two should be banned for unlawful use of Lovage Root
That reminds me to make a stronger winter Dutchman blend.
I just finally ordered !it’s on the way!!
Anyone who has used FLV Beer Nuts, I need a question answered if you can. @Rocky02852 I see you’ve used it lately. When I purchased mine some time ago from BCF it arrived without it’s dripping tip. When I opened the bottle some of it went flying out but my question is: It seems to have lost potency, do you think the missing tip has allowed air in and loss of flavor. It’s a strong flavor, as you know, and I’m having to add more than I normally would. I can not, for the life of me find a tip that will fit the Flavorah bottle and I have no empty flavor bottles to transfer it to. Any thoughts on all of it?
Not Rocky but to answer your question without the restriction of the tip your letting flavor out of the bottle. Since flavors are mostly chemical the molicules are bouncing around at all times. They escape the bottles even with the tip on and cap off when you are mixing. Thats why they tell you (the flavor company’s) to add your flavor and replace the cap and move to your next flavor. A simple tin foil cap over hole will help (under the cap) stop flavor loss till you replace the flavor.
Over the hole? You mean the mouth of the bottle? That doesn’t sound right, I must not be understanding you. How about a rubber or cork stopper with a very tight fit until I can get a glass dropper bottle with a phenolic seal? That was another suggestion made to me.
Anything to seal the top where the tip is missing. I suggested AF because it’s a simple fix to seal the hole and it allows you to put the cap back on if it gets knocked over or you store it on it’s side. Wrap it around don’t stuff it in.
Squirrel SMASH, I totally blame you for my LOVAGE, although I’m always missing something in your mixes, yeah you made me do it
Yeah Frank Finally! And after taking me under your wing on the bacco mixes, you know all too well how slow going it’s been…
