Hi. I am new to mixing and realising how hard it is…. Well I find it hard anyway!
I switched to mixing after elfbar changed its pink grapefruit into something that is just incredibly sweet. If I could get the old actually pink grapefruit flavour that would be my ideal.
Everything I tend to mix also comes out sweet. I have focussed on citrus flavours and tried enhancers such as koolada, sour wizard, fizzy sherbet but am still getting cakes that are too sweet.
I use a 70/30 pg/vg
Amy advice would be greatfully received!
I have quite a range of different grapefruits too but none really taste like the pink grapefruit I long for.
Welcome to the forums. So you are looking for a pink grapefruit that resemble the Elfbar disposable. Most likely from what I gather about the Elfbar version is that it is a Pink Lemonade infused with most likely a Ruby Red Grapefruit. Pretty much all grapefruit flavors are going to be sweet and rather harsh by themselves. So try looking for high % (around 20-25% total flavor) Pink Lemonade mixes that incorporate a few flavors (3-4). Most disposables incorporate some sort of cooling so try adding a small amount of coolant. Start with something like FW Lemonade (natural) some Strawberry or Raspberry and Ruby Red Grapefruit. Heres an idea for you
thanks, it didn’t taste like the old style elfbar grapefruit but wasn’t sweet. There was a funny taste to the end which i think was actually the grapefruit so am trying it with a different type of grapefruit flavor.
can i ask the difference between Kooladaa and extreme ice? i thought koolada would do the same as ice but i don’t think it does
“Koolada 10 PG Concentrate is a flavourless additive that will give a cool sensation”
Extreme Ice is more of a menthol
Maybe the VG, or even the PG, you’re using are sweet by themselves. VG and PG have different sweet or dry flavor depending on the producer.
I’d go to a little bit of Bitter Wizard on some receipt, it’s quite hard to use it in a right manner, but if your base compounds are sweet then I’d move fast to some other one.
FLV Pink Guava taste like grapefruit as showcased in this recipe:
Sorry, I was referring to this one; just a more generic behavior than a single receipt.
It’s quite easy adding extra sweet but it’s really a bad affair to put down or remove the deriving one from VG and/or PG by themselves.
Hi @suze1 and welcome to ELR. I have nothing more to add to what others have advised but I can commiserate with you I can not believe what has been done to commercial juice these days…sickening sweetness.
I noticed your PG content is on the higher end (70%). I’m surprised you’re getting so much sweetness with that. The PG I experience is on the bitter end and the VG, of course, always sweet. One of my fixes for an overly sweet mix is to boost the PG. What brand PG do you usually use, if I may ask?
