Hi, ive been vaping for a while and used to use cotton bacon untill recently. We only have Mujhi cotton pads available in my country now.
I mostly use Reload 24 RTA and the wicking with Mujhi is always a hit and miss. Currently i cut a strip of cotton pad and thin the ends nicely. The issue i am facing with cotton pads are it needs considerably more thinning than bacon as pads r more compressed. But if its thinned slightly more the tank floods. If not thinned enough it mutes the tank.
I heard scottish roll is a good method for pads but mostly for RDAs and not RTAs. Breezetones have his bacon roll method but thats for cotton bacon.
Can you all tell me how or which technique you use to wick Specifically DL RTAs with cotton pads?
I only use pads for everything.
The principles with all different types of cotton is essentially the same they just behave slightly differently.
Scottish roll is ideal for pads.
Peel the top and bottom compacted layers off and cut into strips.
A 10mm strip should be enough for a 3mm id coil.
Spread out the fibres and roll into a semi tight sausage and twist and pull through the coil.
The more you practice the easier it gets.
@nithint1093 been there, done that. I currently use only Koh Gen Do cotton pads. NOW, I have noticed at times, maybe due to dry air, or less humid, the pads seem a little thinner. Other times, maybe in higher humidity levels, they seem normal. Unless Iâm testing, I specifically run 3mm ID coils, so it makes it easy for me. On a âfatâ pad day (LOL), I cut strips at about 1/4" give or take, but on âskinnyâ pad days, I cut it wider, maybe 1/3" giver or take. I always strip off the very fine outer layers just out of habbit.
With that said, I always roll the tips, to get the cotton to peek through the coils, then pull with tweezers, then thin, fluff, trim, etc. As far as the ârollingâ, I just do that, to make it easier to pull the tip through the coils, and from thereon out, itâs just a flat cotton pad strip in the coil body.
When i use muji i tend to always scottish roll mine, theres plenty youtube tutorials on this. When i use single coilers i dont thin the cotton at all, with dual coils i just cut the wicks at a 45â° from the top down, still no thinning.
Is this the same for an RTA as well? Do you use the full width while doing the scottish roll as for my 3mm coils, it gets too tight. I guess maybe 1/3 of the pad done to a Scottish roll would be the way to go?
RTA RDA they arenât wicked any different. A coil is a coil after all. The only difference between wicking is at the tail end of a RTA witch needs a little more precision to fit the tail in the slot without over stuffing so the juice can flow freely.
Just make sure the cotton can be moved back and forth and still fill the coil on both RTAs and RDAs.
To make a long story short itâs too dense for the liquid to flow through. I remember the old Rebuildable spin on coils . They had to be scratched to break the outer layer to be primed so the inner cotton absorbed juice before the heating element burnt the cotton.
This is how i wick, i always prep the cotton the same wether its muji or normal cotton.
The first vid i wick an RTA but not with muji, second vid is an RDA but with muji. Notice how i prep the cotton the same with both, its just with the RTA i dont mess with the tails other than making sure the fibres are all straight.
If i had the time atm i would have made a separate vid for you using muji in an RTA but honestly i just have too much going on right now to be worrying about digging atties out & making/editing videos etc, sorry i couldnt be more helpful.
@TorturedZen from what I can remember, originally it was THOUGHT that the very outer shell/layer wouldnât wick as good as the internal cotton and people started âpeelingâ.
Iâve done it BOTH with and without, and didnât notice a real difference. But, like a trained monkey, I continue to PEEL hehe.
I peel as well, and like others I do a Scottish roll, canât really do it as well with the layers still on.
I find the only downside to muji cotton is thereâs a bit of a break in period, but any bad cotton taste usually disappears by around 15 puffs in or so.
A rule of thumb is to cut the width of the pad about twice the diameter of the coilâs I.D. Some people like to remove the skin from one side, some remove both sides. You can fluff it, roll it, etc.
