Australian Government ***BANNING ALL NICOTINE IMPORTS***

Yah but there’s that 18mg/mL nic strength cap…

Snorts

That’s like being forced to drink 0.5% beer.

KiwiPete, you are so right. Makes me sad that the good news about vaping is being buried by the anti-smoking folks who seem to lump us into the “smoking group”, even when some of us have not lit a cigarette in many years…and our health has improved. Very sad and troubling.

Senator Matt Canavan - “Vaping has helped thousands of Australians quit smoking, but still, we are ignoring the evidence from around the world.
I don’t encourage anyone to take up vaping but it’s significantly safer than smoking, and we should be doing everything we can to ensure that people have all the options open to them to help them quit.”

Have you heard anything else about what exactly is going to happen in October? Apart from banning importation and making it a prescription thing I mean?

Those two things are the only crumbs of info I’ve seen since they announced this shitty ban.

The TGA has not announced anything officially but as I understand you will still be able to import as normally provided you have a prescription however there have been rumblings that they MAY have some sort of approval required as to the source. We all know it is a totally unworkable proposal and no one really knows what is going to happen when it fails.

Why unworkable?

I mean apart from the restriction on our freedom of choice and what a pain in the arse the whole ordeal could become.

While talking to the hot chemist this afternoon, she said she hadn’t learnt anything more about it, and I’ve told her I already have a 2 year supply of 100mg nicotine base in my cupboard, but it’d be lovely to know some details - before I end-up with a 120 year supply I’ll never use.

I’ll be filthy if October hits and we discover nicotine base of covered by Medicare or whatever for $5/litre - all we can eat.

Hmm.

Godamnit!!

Can you get rid of my max edit level or something?

It’s supremely annoying to be unable to edit posts to be grammatically better.

Did you reset my edit count?

It’s allowing me to edit again, so if you did thanks mr man!

If you didn’t, then I dunno why it’s letting me

I suppose it could work aside from:

  • The fact there are only 14 doctors (Australia wide) currently authorised to write a nic script.
  • The Pharmacy Guild of Australia said it “does not support the sale of personal vaporisers in pharmacies, regardless of whether or not they contain nicotine”.
  • The scheme will create an additional 2 million GP visits per year at an estimated cost to the gov of $77,500,000.
  • "Regulatory reform proposal as progressed will do nothing more than hand a virtual monopoly right to retail these products to a narrow cohort of highly concentrated ‘big box’ pharmacy commercial interests”

These just off the top of my head given a couple of hours I could certainly come up with a few more holes in the TGA and Mr Hunt’s cunning plan

No, I didn’t reset your edit count the forum software default setting allows for 30 edits in a 24hr period you may have just rolled into the next 24 hrs

That’s gotta go bro: it serves no useful purpose at all, just stops people improving their writing :confounded:

No surprises there… the Pharmacies ARE Big Pharma. There is no way they will ever support/recommend or even advise on a product that is not their own. They are the last people that should be involved in the vaping industry, or even be a part of the regulatory process.

AUSTRALIANS CALL TO ACTION FROM LVA

1.- Email the anti-vapers that went after you. Tell them you refuse to be smeared as schills of big tobacco, and let them know how vaping helped you.
2.- Call the Prime Minister and tell him you’re not happy!

senator.sheldon@aph.gov.au
senator.henderson@aph.gov.au

Write your email. Tell them you do not appreciate being smeared as a schill of big tobacco, and let them know exactly how you or your loved ones have benefited by vaping. Finally, tell them you will never vote for anyone who does not support your right to vape.

Call The Prime Minister!

1.- Call this number: (02) 6277 7700

2.- Tell the Prime Minister you don’t appreciate being smeared as a schill of Big Tobacco. If you need some help, try something along the lines of:

“Hello. I’m calling because I heard that senators referred to the vaping movement as a big tobacco conspiracy in the Senate last week. I do not appreciate having my representatives smear me as a pawn when all I want is to make the responsible decision to vape instead of smoke. I would like the Prime Minister to fight for my right to vape. I am not a schill of big tobacco, and I will never vote for anyone who does not stand up for me.”

I will most certainly write the email now you’ve given me an email address to direct it at, though calling the prime-minister: getting through the bureaucracy might require more patience than I am in possession of.

*Edit: What’s LVA short for? Love Vaping Association?
