the King wants his tea! in search for an English tea vape(s) actually, i’m stumped at the moment. i really want to make a vape after the Yorkshire bedtime brew but that variety is unavailable in the US. i dont really know how much of what ingredient to add as i have never tasted it. im going to wing it, like everything else i make but i thought asking a true Brit would be wise.
i asked lolly but she figured i had better ask the Brits and start a tea thread
i checked Yorkshire and it did list ingredients so that helps quite a bit! they list decaf black tea, lemon balm 17%, lemon grass 8%, nutmeg 3%, vanilla 2% and ??. would this be made with cream or milk or neither?
flavor profile possibly looks like (diketone free TPA is all i have) lemon, vanilla swirl or french vanilla, holiday spice, black tea, optional dx milk and or dx sweet cream, and 1% distilled water in a VG solvent.
as for a starter, i made an experiment using earl grey- TPA still steeping with zero nic. not sure if the “king” will like this flavor or not, as it may be fit for the sea
"THE KINGS TEA"
EARL GREY-TPA 3.34%
DRAGON FRUIT-TPA 6.68%
KEY LIME PIE-TPA 1.67%
COTTON CANDY CIRCUS-TPA ?? 3.34%
i’ll try this asap and ordered some decaf Yorkshire tea to get a good taste of English tea
thanks pugs! looks like a great start for a warm winter with tea
just tried “the kings tea” experiment. not bad at all. could do less cotton candy and some tweaking but smooth and vapeable. i doubt the king will knight me with this though
is there much difference between OOO black tea and TPA black tea?
Hello R113
I am no Brit, but American… I just was looking at your recipe and thought to share with you that Circus Cotton Candy ( any cotton candy really ) will mute your entire batch. Now w/ ppl’s taste being subjective and we all like different things.
TFA Earl Grey will be very bold at 3.34 % who am I to say that it’s too high …not really trying to go there but wanted to let you know. Albeit if you keep the cotton candy in there and still have the tea that high eventually it would balance out but it will continue to mute the whole batch over time since Ethyl Malto is the main ingredient in Cotton Candy and this is the trouble w/ using it , even as a sweetner.
I will share with you my American take on Earl Grey w/ a orange looper finish
All I know is TPA black tea tastes like a lemon that was rubbed in the dirt and put in a glass of really old tea. I don’t recommend it. If you’re in the US, OneStopDIYShop.com has a great tea flavor. I haven’t tried the OOO one. FA’s black tea is nice but it’s on the weak side (which is odd for FA). TPA’s green tea on the other hand is a must have for me, but a little goes a long way and it’s pretty ‘green’ tasting. Not what you’re after, I know, but just thought I’d throw that out there.
im a southern illinois guy yet traveled the world via our USMC. have experienced many different experiences along with flavors. it’s getting colder and tea sounds interestingly different, plus im really tired of strawberry anything. i did order a 15ml bottle of tpa black tea, green tea and inawera biscuit. pugs recipe has OOO black tea and says this is very good so i’ll get some tea from them tonight. a lot of the flavors available have to be tried and tested along with others opinions. should the tpa black tea taste like hell in a bottle, it will be tossed. Chinese jasmine tea is awesome and feel it would be great in a vape as long as the jasmine isn’t over doing the main course. had UK tea in 1991 after my USMC tour and remembered it was super fine stuff yet haven’t had any English tea since, so i really dont know what it is supposed to taste like. ill make pugs tea in a few weeks when the flavors come in. i do sincerely appreciate all of the comments and opinions as it helps us all in flavor development
hi amy 2. thank you for the knowledge. i just recently began playing with cotton candy and did notice that my “fall festival” e liquid seemed to lose flavor after 2 weeks. i couldn’t understand why because a taste test 3 days after mixing, it was super fine. i doubled the fruit last night but didn’t do anything with the cotton candy. now i know and will more than likely not use cotton candy again. with a high vg liquid, i don’t normal use sweetener because to me, it gunks coils then burns very quickly plus vg is sweet enough on it’s own. i knew this was the best forum ever with knowledge and so glad i joined! learning a lot for sure.
as far as “the kings tea” experiment goes, it does taste muted yet interestingly good. it tastes fresh and light yet lacks the mouth feel; which is why i added cotton candy.
what else could i add for the mouth feel or heaviness without having to add more target flavors? i think that is what somewhat stumps me on many flavorings.
my take on mouth feel is more or less a filler. a flavor than will not take over the main course and not really detectable yet there to give some heaviness to the entire flavor profile. hmmm, marshmallow? ive been fooling around with dx marshmallow a lot recently too but in very low %. i will make this again in 30ml omitting the cotton candy. might use monk fruit extract(nude nicotine) instead because of it’s high resistance to burning plus it has not gunked my wicks and coils.
i added a dab of dx marshmallow to a chocolate banana concoction and it seemed to round off the flavors nicely. not sure why chocolate banana is a bastard to make but it is
tpa earl grey is very potent as is key lime pie so i’ll not increase that any, leave the cotton candy way back in the cabinet and test.
i don’t have many of the flavorings you used in “grey days” but will print the recipe off for a future order
For mouthfeel you can always use Marshmallow around 1-1.5% it’ll sweeten as well. I also will use meringue BUT there’s more of a caveat to using it. It will add an additional milky powdery sugar aspect to the mix. If your just wanting to experiement w/ it as an additive but don’t want the profile to show up stay under 1% I tend to use 0.5% and it’s not hurt a profile yet… ( this is the % for an additional mouthfeel and / or sweetener ) as for using it as it’s intended to 1-1.5 % mark works well.
Also since you’re aiming for a tea you can always add a Bergamot , FA makes a fabulous one. If your not interested in it then a more stern orange will work nicely with the Earl Grey Tea like Blood Orange. Or perhaps if you have Orange cream TFA use it around 1.25-1.50% it’ll be enough to accent the juice and just may boost up that Dragon fruit which can be difficult w/ using other over dominating flavors like the tea.
Creams also help immensely in obtaining a rich creamy mouthfill. You may look into Fresh Cream FA but again in order to not mess up your orginial profile stay low under 1% as it steeps stronger w/ time.
The Biscuit give it a more bready texture and in this recipe it works but the dominating flavors Earl Grey tea and the green orange ( which really is just like a blood orange not sweet ) are the forward notes. The additive of Pear is learning what pear does for creams as you get to know and learn your flavors you also learn what they pair well w/ and what they can secondarily bring to a mix. I know that pear is sweet it’s also a creamy sweetness in the way it’s inherently sweet not sweet like candy so adding a little pear to your cream mixes gives it a sweeter creaminess.
The cupcake is a softer vanilla with a slight bready backnote again more for a depth factor than an actual profile to show up. It’s a fluffier note , Earl Grey to most Americans is a Uber strong Tea that takes a ton of cream to soften and tone down. LOL sorry I am not trying to piss any tea lovers off it’s just a bright note that is an acquired taste. Once I got to vaping it I really enjoyed the full effect of the tea, but when I was building the recipe I was thinking what can soften the acidic of the tea and buffer it so it blends better w/ other flavors.
i may try substituting some of your flavors here with what i currently have in stock to avoid having to buy more flavorings. of course, the entire flavor will be a mile off but can get a slight feel of what im up against. my brain is now full and will take a breather to absorb this complex info
had an idea last night on a work break. not sure about amounts yet. i usually think about an eliquid on paper first to see how it could work and delete those that might make it taste like crap…this was before your info, pugs info and jojo’s info
holiday spice or OOO nutmeg
dx sweet cream
dx milk
black tea
french vanilla I or II tpa
dx bavarian cream
lemon tpa
thinking this could work if i used OOO black tea instead of the lemon dirt of tpa black tea
note: no one i know personally enjoys odd flavors or mixed complex flavors. everyone seems to just love single flavored boring liquids like grape, cherry, coconut with no twists or other additions etc…
a real ice cream example of mouth feel would be a chocolate ice cream with dark baking chocolate melted and mixed with cocoa powder along with milk sugar cream base. it makes it heavy. thick. vs a chocolate ice cream with just one chocolate variety
That would work just fine. I will say that I have been playing around w/ Holiday spice as of late and it’s darn strong basically all nutmeg is what I get from it. I prefer Cap’s Egg Nog when desiring a nutmeg finish but I will have to let the Holiday Spice batches steep to give them a full chance.
Depending on how you layer your creams and milks I wouldn’t go too heavy %s wise but you can get along using all of those in a recipe w/o worry. The lemon I suppose is just to brighten or do you want it to stand out ? Not sure how Lemon and Nutmeg would get along especially w/ the Black tea it may make it more acidic IDK maybe you’ve got a certain idea aimed for your plan don’t mean to distract from it.
i honestly will have to wait for the yorkshire tea to come in to get a better idea. as of now, im just going on past flavors i recall. not sure what the tea(s) flavor really smells or tastes like either so i’ll have to adjust from that. reason for lemon is the yorkshire tea uses both lemongrass and lemon balm. however, earl grey is bergamot tea so i suppose i could mix OOO black tea with a pinch of tpa earl grey. found this as a guide. cannot find the bedtime brew in the US
the yorkshire decaf is just decaf black tea with no additional flavors…so this would basically mirror pugs brew tea two tea. i can make his work with what i have except the tea…lol that i dont have.
actually have or had 3 teas in mind. first is what pugs threw in, second is what you threw in(more like a bedtime brew with creams and nutmeg) and lastly(hopefully not ghastly) is a Chinese jasmine tea, which i believe will not be as complex as the others as its a clear tea thus no creams
if you would please, mix the kings tea without cotton candy, let steep for 3-4 weeks then give a report. the people near me wouldnt know any difference between a cat shit and chocolate vape:unamused:
jojo turned my tummy on tpa black tea
if black tea flavoring has lemon in it, i wont have to add any more lemon.
