Code Red for Humanity

Sometimes I truly believe the human race succeeds in spite of itself.

You da man, it’s all good bro. You bring up good points.

I hate straws and never used them (except in a restaurant). Then one day all the teeth in my head rotted out and if I wanted to put water into my body I had to use a straw or the pain would be… Just thinking about cold or hot anything touching an open nerve in your mouth!! I couldn’t find an emoji for that.

I am of the belief (no matter how erroneous) that one person can make a difference. One person can change the world one person at a time. I won’t be using their straws and neither will you, it seems. There are two! maybe we can get some more and those money-hungry F#CK WADS will be losing money if they keep producing…

Pipe dream? Probably, but I like Pipes.

Oh I can visualise that moment. I once had a root canal abscess during a full schedule of teaching. Not up there with anaesthesia not working during an operation but certainly memorable.

Sorry, but I laughed at your pain only because I have fealt the same. YIKES

All I need to say is it was an emergency circumcision after a mishap during a 69. That alone makes all wince and cross their legs.

No worries man, I can see where you come from but if you’re right, if you can start a snowball effect i still think it’s not going to be quick enough. What we need is unity to achieve something meaningful. But the media and politics have destroyed most of that. There are too many little groups, all grumpy about each other. If people can’t see their common enemy, how an they pull in one direction?
Just look how close democrats and conservatives are in their policies today but both their followers are kicking eeach other’s teeth out. And no matter who wins, the shitty areas in society, where there are real life problems for the folks involved nothing ever changes. The difference is just the speed in which the situation’s getting worse. Democrats accelerate decay in some areas, conservatives in others. But any improvements always only reach theones who have already more than they need.
You turn on the+ telly and what do you see? Competition between groups. Finger pointing in some way. News about problems with infrastructure, water, energy, whatever. But no solutions. If there is no water in an area, why are there ads for swimming pools and not a diy show about how to build a water saving device, just as an example.Nope, the message is the same, 24h a day. Consume shit you don’t need, and if there are problems it is always easy to find somebody who’s fault it is.
So yes, I try to stay positive and try to encourage others not to follow the “normality”, have open eyes to wasteful resource management and so on. On the other hand I’m as guilty as the rest of us. I certainly could avoid plastic packaging but it’s very hard to say no to all the conveniences at all times. But I try to avoid cheap stuff that breaks after the 2nd use. I rather buy an expensive tool i can use for a long time. This also encourages you to think about if you really need something or not.

Hehe, the ONLY time I use straws, are in my Mojitos, and we DO recycle them (right into the NEXT glass that is).

@Bad_Influence THAT ^^^ was actually spot on …

I know (said with a sigh) and your right but… Shit… it’s all I got. I’m laughing but it’s kinda pathetic. I’m not the one to start a movement.

No point in quoting your whole paragraph. You’re right. I could have written that and I would have known I didn’t. Except for the Telly part. What’s a telly? (kidding)

Same.

My g*d man!! My family, whom I love dearly, love to buy shit we don’t need. I mostly don’t say anything because I learned years ago that it only makes matters worse. They do TRY though. I’m not sure if it’s because I have swayed them with my pros or they just don’t want to hear about it.

Well I think @Bad_Influence 's understandable rants reflect my views. Humanity can safely end and I don’t think the world will suffer any loss.

Well, I think it’s a bit harsh, humanity has the potential for something special, but right now there’s not a big chance we can show what’s in us. Of course, if the goal is to keep life going in whatever form, the planet doesn’t need us and some form of life will survive until the ride ends in the collapsing sun.
But monkeys and cockroaches ain’t playing guitar solos.

I didn’t explain myself very well right here. One person can change the world by changing him/her self.

Well I am not one to put humanity first. The earth will muddle along happily without us.

Someone once told me I would become happy in spite of myself  I didn’t know whether to be glad or insulted

That’s because the little buggers make money from their little plastic wrappings. During the height if the first pandemic surge the supermarkets here wouldn’t let us bring our own bags into the stores anymore claiming it was a health hazard. It was RETURN of the PLASTIC BAGS :scream: I could just see the plastic industry chuckling under their breaths because they were suddenly back in business again. Even if I didn’t give a rat’s ass about recycling I can’t stand those plastic bags anyway. I asked the cashier do they know that the virus lives 3 days longer on plastic than on paper? She’s like, “They do?” Lol, the whole thing is still a mess.

Wow, I didn’t know Somerville did that. In Boston they told us to just throw everything in together. Lol, they prolly knew it wasn’t going to get recycled anyway. Somerville and Cambridge are full of the old hippy types and young activists like you said. They should know by now what’s really going on (and has been all along).

That’s why you’re my bro, Dan :+1:

Btw, I haven’t been around because I’ve had my nose buried in those books recommended above. I’m reading Fingerprints of the Gods while waiting on Magicians of the Gods to be available. I’m stunned by it! Absolutely riveting though it gets a bit complicated for me with all the mathematics involved. It doesn’t matter, the point is clear and well understood.

I found it VERY interesting that there are some 47+ stories about the great deluge (Noah’s Ark) from around the globe included in countless myths and expressed in different ways, all with the same common denominators. I found it even more interesting that only one (an American Indian story) said that if humanity expresses respect for their creator and all life then it will be spared extinction. All the others pretty much said it was curtains for us, lol.

@Bad_Influence I’m with you in so many ways. Too much finger pointing, personalizing peoples’ stances on policy, name calling and less courtesy and respect than I remember in the past. We do need to pull together, in spite of some of our differences. We need to find ways to work together for the common good. That won’t happen with people with one opinion calling someone else “You’re an idiot”, instead of “I disagree with you.” Reminds me of old Saturday Night Live with the news with Chevy Chase and Jane Curtin…“Jane, you slut !”

And it is a shame that we live in a somewhat disposable society. I can only do what I can as an individual, but will continue to do that and live according to my values. Kindness, compassion, thinking of others, doing my best to consider the common good instead of just looking at “it’s my personal choice”.

I lived in both of those cities in the 90s and even though the area is a great place for resources and things to do, the people were a pain in the ass. Even then they were called the People’ Republic of Cambridge/Somerville. Those places must be a nightmare now.
