Well done, nice story.
Same here, I usually have just food in the house for a few days at most.
Not everybody has the money to stock up enough to last a nuclear winter.
Right now I’m at the last of my money, I will have to wait till the 23rd when my money comes in before I can do some serieus shopping.
By that time there might be nothing left.
Leaving some food on the shelves for others would be a nice thing to do too.
I’ve seen people stuffing all the rice in their trolley, leaving the shelf completely empty.
‘We’re all in this together’ sounds good, leaving others without the basics to survive is not the way to go.
Now that’s a sensible thing to do. Not getting enough food will make it less likely that you’re going to survive if you get infected.
I just hope they don’t clean out all the cat and dog food, I will be forced to go out and shoot a kid
Hopefully by then the panic buying will be reduced and everyone can get what they need.
The whole panic buying thing pisses me off - so selfish.
Governments who are indecisive about what action to take are not helping at all.
Too true
Please be careful about using NOT official versions of this map…
Late last month, a member of several Russian language cybercrime forums began selling a digital Coronavirus infection kit that uses the Hopkins interactive map as part of a Java-based malware deployment scheme. The kit costs $200 if the buyer already has a Java code signing certificate, and $700 if the buyer wishes to just use the seller’s certificate.
“It loads [a] fully working online map of Corona Virus infected areas and other data,” the seller explains. “Map is resizable, interactive, and has real time data from World Health Organization and other sources. Users will think that PreLoader is actually a map, so they will open it and will spread it to their friends and it goes viral!”
Knowledge is power …
WHO report on the outbreak in China.
Pretty interesting and informative article also quite long but worth a read
You said it!
As many as 200,000 to 1.7 million people could die.
OK. First, that is the CDC’s “worst case scenario”. A worst case scenario typically does not happen. Also, this estimate, being “worst case”, in part plays out if no action is taken to curb the propagation. That bothers me, because we have seen a whole lot of radical actions taking place- crowd cancellations, major sports postponements, travel restrictions, etc. So in my mind’s eye it is irresponsible of the CDC to spread this information. In fact, the article hints at that:
The assumptions fueling those scenarios are mitigated by the fact that cities, states, businesses and individuals are beginning to take steps to slow transmission, even if some are acting less aggressively than others.
I understand that this outbreak is real, and it will affect a lot of people. But that nightmare scenario -article published yesterday, knowing all the preventative steps already taken- sounds more to me like scaremongering than helpful.
I don’t understand either the motivation for publishing something like this. Worst out case is statistically impossible. I’ve done this for circuit analysis. Every component must operate at max tolerance deviation at once to achieve a worst out outcome. This is a useless academic number. Publishing this hits me as a show of incompetence. The inability to produce anything meaningful. Not surprising for the CDC.
There is a lot of fear running rampant… Imagine if this was a real crisis…
I think we’re past whether this is real or not. The issue now is, even if it is not a high death toll event, the crisis may be the drowning of the hospitals and health care system with patients. Some of which will be genuine and some of which will be paranoid panicked people insisting on using resources better allocated elsewhere. That’s partly why I loathe stories like this one from the CDC.
I just have to say …Look what happens when both Political Parties get together and work through their Bullshit …Maybe this will help mend our Political Divide…Its a shame it took something like this for Bipartisanship to happen
Phil… my special needs son… may be out of his program now. We do not know.
In the meantime, he is doing his own panicking as he wanted to finish his program and find a job at the hospital that he could do. All of it is up in the air.
So yeah I get it… and we all cope in our own ways… dealing with those that can not.
I really hate the stories… and folks should know better hygiene too. Seems to me there is a lot at risk. Shortages of masks and gloves, to food and drugs… yeah… its tough right now, but I know we will bounce back, I just hope the many lessons to be learned will be learned before it is too late.
It’s a nice sentiment, but believe me they are still only using this for their own political gain. They care not about truly working together. Watch the blame from both sides continue to ooze out.
Of course my dear friend…This I do know , but it is good they came together…Glass Half full attitude here
Everyone should have that feeling. Hey, even if they point more fingers than they have at each other, as long as it does bring about some positive impact, awesome.
I appreciate the words, but if you get within five feet of me I’m punching you.
Overhere the situation is quite different. People were really calm, cool and collected, no panic buying at all, until yesterday.
So what happened you may ask?
Our prime-minister came on tv to tell the population that there was no need to panic.
Since everybody knows that he’s a *****ing liar, they all rushed to the shops and cleaned them out.
