Coronavirus

We have a unique opportunity here. We have people from around the world that can give first hand accounts of how this outbreak is proceeding, impacting, effecting, etc. We all know GD well that the subject Trump is extremely polarized. We should all know GD well that telling others that are wrong in their beliefs will only serve to generate animosity. Why in the fuck can’t we start a dedicated thread to TDS, yes for both sides. For those obsessed with either end of the spectrum. Bash away at each other. Make your cases. Debate and practice rhetoric to your hearts content.

Please do me this favor. I’m seriously fine with the back and forth if I don’t have to try to weed through it to get something pragmatic regarding this outbreak. We all know both gooberment and the press will twist the truth. Truth can be published here.

I’m old, I’m not feeling well. The store I’m working for is flat lined and I’m sitting home for at least this entire week. I have two daughters with families and they are both getting hit economically with this. Be Trump a saint or the devil, he is what we have. We have to live with the circumstances at hand.

Jakarta is in lockdown. I work from home now. The big difference than other lockdowns is that, in other countries, the govt supplied you with food and other necessities.
Here, we have to buy our own food and necessities, and the price was inflated very high.

Here in the states we are hearing about relief but it has not become available as of yet. The owner of the store I work at (It’s really just the two of us) spent the entire day talking to distributors, banks, and financial institutions to check availability of assistance. One institution is easing up on requirements and a business loan looks possible.

Please as @SmilingOgre said if you want to praise or denounce.

There is now a dedicated topic - it has been moved to the saloon so have at it.

https://forum.e-liquid-recipes.com/t/tds-please-bash-here/239215

Many threads have spiralled into political debate and they all end up acrimonious to a degree.

Let’s keep all the existing topics on track and if you want to have a sling or support Trump put it in the thread above.

If you wish you can quote the topic that you want to make the comment about but keep it in one thread.

The situation in Belgium…
No lockdown but people are urged to work from home, businesses are closing voluntarily if they deem they cannot provide a safe environment. No shops allowed to open during weekends except for healthcare and food (except restaurants and bars, they’re all closed until next month at least unless they do takeaway or delivery).
Supermarkets shelves are empty for flour, disinfectants, hand soap and TP in most locations… people still keep panic buying. Pharmacies have run out of masks and paracetamol.
We have issues with the delivery of protections for healthcare professionals (masks, gloves, disinfectants) and stock is running critically low. Most HC professionals are understandably not willing to put their own health at risk…
Schools are closed except for limited daycare service (mainly for people who really have no other choice). Universities and higher education is encouraged to do e-learning.

Deaths have doubled today (10 now) and infections are still increasing but it’s expected to keep rising for another couple days until anyone will see any effects from the measure’s they’re taking. Right now, it’s basically wait and see what’ll happen. We all hope they get it under control because a complete lockdown is a disaster in many ways.

So far, experts don’t think we’ll get into similar problems that Italy had, where doctors had to choose who would get treatment or not. We still have some extra capacity… of course with the assumption that they can get masks and whatever else they need to do their job.

Situation on jakarta lockdown so far, almost all schools and almost all offices are closed, so everyone and their family flocked the shopping malls and restaurants. Also zoos, beaches and other sites… What’s the point of lockdown, then?

Thank you!! Well articulated description of the situation. I sense having a good feel for what is happening in your world.

That’s exactly what I don’t get with all this panic buying too … they’re just breeding grounds for this virus. People lining up, even outside, close together, touching everything, coughing, sneezing, … meh, you won’t see me near anything like that.

Very similar situation here in the Michigan. People are collecting in herds outside of work and school. Seems like insanity to me.

Just heard a representative from one medical company talking about an antibody therapy whereby antibodies may be harvested from folks who have recovered from the virus will be used to boost the immunity of others.

I have been ordering my groceries online for about a year now. I order, then drive to the store and they bring the groceries out to my truck. Last week, I couldn’t order online. The stores would take an order, but I couldn’t schedule a pickup for 4 or more days. So, Sean and I decided to go and pick up some essentials. Our HEB store parking lot was packed, so we went to Kroger. We ended up getting several things on my list, but MUCH was just missing. A LOT of empty shelving.
No eggs
No rice
No dry beans
No fresh produce, except some tangerines ( we did get those)
No meat, except some frozen burger patties (got)
No toilet paper, sanitizer, hand soap, or paper towels
No bleach
Anyhow… we did get some canned goods, some pasta, and some soup.
I found out from neighbors, our other two major grocery stores are in about the same shape as of this afternoon.

I worry for my parents 77 and 81 yrs old. I took them supplies and groceries this evening, trying to keep them at home as much as possible.

I think I’m going to start gardening again. I haven’t been healthy enough to want to, but I’m thinking it may be necessary anyhow.

Anyhow, I pray ya’ll are staying safe and have supplies and food that you need.
It’s crazy out there and we haven’t even had a case of that virus here in my town yet. (that we know of)

I agree!
I honestly thought that when the hoarding started someone, you know, um that bloke… what’s his name?
Oh yeah, Scott Morrison PM would “address the nation” with some sort of reminder to people to be calm, clean and look out for each other!
Why did I think that a PM that goes to Hawaii for a Holiday as a major bushfire is starting would do this??
I am stoopid

Edit - whoops sorry - I just read No Ranting - I’ll go now… :flushed:

Ya that’s insane. Denmark “my country” is locked down to.
But so many people just behave like they got a holiday and going to zoo etc. like u telling.
I hope our prime minister soon doing like they did in Italy, France and some few other countries… Giving curfew, people must then only go outside for buying food and or medicine. And for helping family members which are sick, if they don’t follow those restrictions they will get a fines or even getting jailed.

It’s a sad time for the world and if any had any doubts before covid-19 about the animal called HUMAN, then noone should have any doubts about the human now, the virus getting all the bad things up in many people to and I clearly see its the same in every country worldwide… Me, me, me, me, me, me, me and me… Do I forget somthing arrrr yes and me, him and her.

Maybe me and my family are totally dumb, but we denies to be a part of the hoarding att all…

Good luck for u and urs out there. And the best wishes to the selfish world to :pray:t2::pray:t2::pray:t2:

Same here, the restaurants and zoos are closed but they now go shopping with the entire familie as a nice outing.
But, tonight or tomorrow evening (not sure about that yet) they are planning to go out at 8 pm to give a 3 minute applaus to all the people working their butts off in healthcare.

The general consent is they deserve the praise.
I agree but the highest praise they could give them is keeping their butts indoors AMAP and stop spreading the virus around

We have no paracetamol, empty shelves, closed schools, restaurant, bars, coffeeshops , zoos, sport schools, swimming pools etc.
43 people have died so far

Pinocchio (nickname for our PM) held a speech yesterday to tell us it ain’t over yet.
He also thanked the people for following up all the advice and restrictions and for taking such good care of each other.
He probably lives in a parallel universe.

There are daycare facilities open for people who both work in sectors where they can’t be missed so their children are provided for.

I only know bits and pieces, I’m not an avid follower of news and make do with what I hear around me.
People know about my quirks so they keep me in the loop when there is something important.

Apart from taking my dog to a mostly deserted park, I just stay indoors.
I’m listening to audiobooks on YT and play solitaire on the computer.
And of course reading this thread

Up to 21 known cases now here in Rhode Island, no deaths. Schools, libraries etc. closed. Very eerie driving to work this morning, there’s no traffic it’s like a Sunday morning. I guess people aren’t going out if they don’t have to, which is a good thing.

People should have a look at how Italians do it… they all come out on their porch / terrace / open window / whatever faces the street. They sing, they make noise, it’s a social gathering but everyone stays very well within a safe distance from each other and they have a lot of fun with it.

Our government, just like the Dutch, have basically forbidden these mass gatherings but we’re so much dumber and do it anyways. I don’t think it’s illegal for practical reasons but if people continue like this, I fear that there’s going to be a point where they’re actually going to a lockdown phase. People should come to their senses but I have little hope left.
To me it says a lot about human mentality and it’s a little taste of how people are actually willing to tackle the even bigger crisis: climate change. If governments can’t control a bump in the road (like I see this virus, because humanity will survive it no matter what), we’re pretty much doomed with regards to climate (something that no human being can escape).

I’ve been watching the news reports constantly over the last couple days and I’m sure a lot more test have taken place, but I’m not seeing any updated numbers… good or bad. No news is not good news IMO. Just a constant prep for the worst is not easing my anxiety.
