Crappy low quality smok mods

@dex56 I gifted a Smok to my son, which went dead after a month. I mailed their customer service and provided proof of error and proof of purchase and I got it replaced hazzelfree. The replacement functions now 13 months without any problems and he doesn’t take care of his mods well.
Maybe you try to go that route.

I’ve never had a problem with a Smok mod. A couple of them refuse to die after years of getting beat up. They aren’t the best quality mods out there and you wont find me waiting to get their next release brand new. Well, recently I’ve bought some of their new ones but most were bought in clearance sections or heavily discounted.

I’ve had other brands of mods fail me. They’re from companies that most people view as way better than Smok. I’ve had problems with Geekvape, Dovpo, Vaporesso, Pioneer4You, and Wismec mods. Most of them malfunctioned or died inexplicably. I still buy lots of stuff from those companies. It’s all just cheap Chinese electronics. Shit’ll happen especially if liquid gets inside of them.

Which ones have been tough for me? Alien, X-Priv, T-Priv, and for the last year I’ve used the hell out of an ugly E-Priv. It’s supposed to be shaped like an Engine motor. I have several others but the ones I listed have seen heavy outdoors and work duty.

The ones that died on me or started malfunctioning have been Geekvape Aegis Legend, and a Blade. A Dovpo Topside. A Vaporesso Revenger and Sky Solo. A Wismec Gen 3 Dual, Luxotic MF, and a Pioneer4You IPVD3.

I use a bit of everything. I don’t care which brand made the mod I use. Some people are brand loyal and that’s fine. Others get outraged when shit breaks and that’s fine too. Shit happens. It just hasn’t happened to me with Smok mods.

Another thing, all their coils seem to work perfectly fine for me. I haven’t had trouble with them since the Prince tank. Even then it was a few coils out of probably over a hundred. Their recent stuff has been pretty good. Nothing amazing but reliable and solid. I’m not talking about pod coils. I don’t really use any of that crap. I use their tanks a lot though. I can make my own alien or staple staggered fused clapton coils no problem but still enjoy using Smok tanks.

I’ve been using a Smok OSUB Plus every day for four years.

I see the complaints about their coils too, but I’ve had just one faulty coil burn out in four years. However, I use their coils at a much lower wattage than Smok’s recommended levels.

Hmm, ironically I haven’t had had any issues with my SMOK mods, oh except my Smok Stick V8 which sometimes the fire button sticks in the ON position :flushed: (guess that’s why they call it the stick) but my FreeMax Twister stick mod does the same thing (must be a stick mod thing)
My G-Priv 2 luxe is my favorite Smok mod and I highly recommend it it (if it’s still available) and I have a couple others; S-Priv, Mag. But nothing newer. Never had the bad coil problems others complain about either, although I don’t use my Smok tanks as much anymore, running FreeMaxMeshPro’s on just about everything nowadays :ok_hand:

Looks great. I think a lot of the problems with Smok branded anything comes down to inexperience and user error. Sure they can make faulty stuff too but not at the exaggerated rate the Smok haters claim. They’re just like any other Chinese brand. They all have their own style and way of doing things. They make great mods sometimes, but others can be cheap mods. You’ve got one of the better quality ones right there.

The Morph 2 is put together really nice. The screen and functions are like a Wotofo mod. Very simple and basic. It’s put tighter really well though.

They also made an Aegis Legend-a-like (Scar 18), and a Gen-a-like (Rigel) that aren’t half bad.

Anything with electronic components can go bad at any time. It’s the nature of the beast (not intended as a SMOK reference). I don’t buy SMOK mods because in the past they had a higher rate of failure than most other well known brands and to be honest, I thought they were ugly as hell and they only got uglier. Of course that’s only my opinion. My understanding is that they’ve gotten better over the past couple of years but I still won’t buy one. Guess I can’t let go of my bias.
I will say that I owned a SMOK M80 Plus that was just a hell of a workhorse mod that took a beating and wouldn’t quit. I ended up giving it away and up until last year, was still working. Wish I had kept it.
If you want a mod that will last far longer than most, get a well made mech. They may not have all the bells and whistles, but they’ll work for years.

Never had a problem with Smok mods (I have 10 of them). 5 of of my oldest are used on an almost daily basis. The G150 is what I use for dry burning and assembling coils and probably the most used of all my mods - at nearly 4 years old it works flawlessly. I have 4 x TFv8 sticks (all around 3 years old) which I use for my flavor testing (currently topped with Elder Dragons).

Although not my daily drivers as such - these mods have been my reliable work horses for the past 3-4 years and get used more than any of the 120 odd devices in my collection.
So from my person experience - Smok gets: :star: :star: :star: :star: :star:

I think you also have to take in account that they make and sell so many. So you will hear more about the quality control issues. I generally don’t buy smok . But I still have a Xcube2 that is in good shape. It’s in a box now but I used it regularly for about a year and didn’t have any issues. It seems that they were releasing a new mod every week for a while.

This exactly. Anything that’s very popular will usually get more complaint threads. Some people always suggest the Aegis Legend because it’s a “bullet proof” mod. I’ve seen LOTS of Aegis Legend problem and failure threads.

I’m not so sure about failure rates. Nobody keeps track of how many units of X mods were sold. It would be nice to have real statistics vs assumptions. Like in order to be classified as a failed mod, it got examined and the causes known. Hard impacts, liquid on the internal electronics, bad wiring, ect. I’m a statistics fan. We don’t have any real statistics to follow. For instance, wouldn’t it be cool to see the all time, top ten, best selling dual 18650 mod list was? Units created and distributed to wholesalers would even suffice. Which single coil RDA is the all time best seller?

I think a lot of people handling and breaking Smok mods are new vapers. They don’t really know much of what’s going on or what not to do.

In 2017 I bought my first mod which was a Smok Alien in a very nice green army camouflage finish and it’s still in mint condition (I bought a matching silicone case for it) Next I bought the single battery version and that is still mint, both have worked flawlessly and never given me any problems. I like that they display the amps and voltage without having to fire the device which saves you risking burning your coils when you want to see how much you are drawing from the batteries. The coils on the other hand have been very hit and miss including their RBA sections which can be very problematic, this is what made me switch to RTA’s from sub ohm tanks.

The entire industry is ripe with that. I have four or five Lost Vapes with no paint left on them. Most all of the mods I’ve tested perform below published specs. Yihi has been the best at holding up but a couple of them as bugs as well. Having said that, most every mod should keep “working” for at least two or three years with reasonable care.
