My alien still runs fine, very tatty and heavy compared to my geekvape aegis and also far more fragile but useful backup. Merry Christmas and a Happy New year too everyone, have fun but keep safe too keep on vaping
That sounds lucky: Iāve had two Aliens fail due to the internal plastic frame breaking.
Oh, and welcome to the forums.
I donāt remember if I posted in this thread but probably have. Smok gets bashed by so many people. Iāve never had trouble with any of their mods. I think people are taught that Smok is bad, so they have an opinion on every Smok product ever made. Iāve seen it probably hundreds of times. The scenario goes like this:
A newb posts a Smok tank. āMy first tank! Smok TFV18!ā
Another poster says something like this: āGood luck. Smok has terrible QC on their coils. Their tanks are good for clouds but I got zero flavor.ā They probably actually believe what theyāre saying with no first hand experience. Unless youāve tried the tank, why act like you know what youāre talking about? Thereās just so many repeated sayings and BS theories about Smok out there.
Iāve found that if you donāt drop Smok mods, and keep leaky tanks off of them, they can last a really long time.
I think a few of us possibly had a few bad batches and it soiled their reputation for us. After 5 Smok mods failing within two months for me, I have avoided them ever since (And as Iām married into a Chinese family, Iām not someone who criticises anything from or in that glorious nation lightly). Although, I do miss my Guardian 2.
I have a few Smok mods and havenāt experienced any dramas with them although theyāre all mainly unused so take my thoughts with a pinch of salt there.
However I regularly use their VCT and Gimlet sub ohm tanks primarily with the tiny dual coil RBA coils and find them both excellent.
The Gimlet is slightly better as the AFC locks into place but Iāve never had a leak out of either of them and find the flavour fantastic.
I know theyāre very old school now, including bottom fill, but quite honestly I couldnāt care less if they continue to perform.
The little RBA coil is tiny and a little fiddly to work on but Iāve found it extremely forgiving in regards to wicking. You have to be a little careful with the height of the coils as if theyāre too high they short when you screw the tank together but other than that they suit my needs perfectly.
And they have both had an absolute flogging over the years.
I think they have improved. There was a time though, I wouldnāt waste my money on one.
