Do these flavors really deserve all the hype?

I always see people saying ________ is “the” flavor. You have to try it. And just like everyone else, I always buy more and more flavors to “try” them, because we always follow the leader, and let’s admit it. Most of us are addicted to our hobby

So I thought it would be good to have a thread where we can ask each other about all these different flavorings, and feel comfortable comparing and talking about all different brands.

And yes, I know there are tasting notes on most flavors. There have been a lot of new flavors released in the last 6 months or so with a lot less information available with early findings. So I’m hoping this will be a way to save all of us a little money. I trust most people on this site, and would love everyone’s opinions and/or comparisons to similar flavors.

These are my current list of curiosities that I don’t want to buy if I already have flavors that are similar or if they aren’t all they are cracked up to be.

Bakers Flavors/Vaping Zone: Gourmet Cream Charlotte, Gourmet Cake, and Gourmet Vanilla Spongecake?

OneStopDIY: Lucky Shot?

LA:Blackberry?

FA: wOw?

FW: Butter Toffee?

INW: Lemon Cake, Rhubarb?

RF: Cherry Pie?

Thank you all!

Having just mixed up a batch of the new FA flavors on 9-9:
Wow
Metaphor
Labyrinth
(and Nonna’s Cake, which is new to me, and was shown as new on the site I purchased it from…)

The only one that actually impressed me enough to say “Yes! I’ll definitely be ordering this again!” was Nonna’s Cake.

The jury is still out on the others, but, it may help you out with at least being able to put ‘wow’ much lower in the cue (until the jury weighs in, or until you get enough feedback to make your decision.

/my 2 cents!

I also have “lucky shot” -but haven’t mixed it yet.

I use WoW in my grape doughnut recipe, it’s nice I like it, certainly adds something I haven’t tasted in my other doughnut recipes.

I can’t help you out much as I only have a couple on your list and they are Cherry Pie (RF) and Lemon Cake (Inw)
Cherry Pie IMO is the best bakery cherry flavor I have tried .If you like cherry pie then you should buy it .I don’t crave a Cherry vape often but this does the trick and as a single flavor it is very good.
Lemon Cake , Jury is still out on this one but not due to the flavor but more what am I going to do with it.It is a good stand alone but I prefer Nonna’s Cake but that’s just me.It has a nice cake flavor with a lemon sugar frosting but I haven’t decided what to mix it with yet.
I keep passing up the Butter Toffee for about the same reason , there is one mix that interests me but I can make due with the others flavors that I have .I keep it on the shopping list just in case I need the $3.00 to make free shipping sometime down the road but for now I can live without it.
Hopefully others can tell you more

LOL…same here. Been on my list for 8 months now. Seems like there is always a new exciting flavor to get instead every time :frowning:

@BoyHowdy just reminded me of 2 more on my list from another thread.

DIY Holy Vanilla and Hangsen Italian Cream. I’m thinking the Italian Cream sounds like I could sub RF Cream Cheese for it for similar results? That’s just by reading the description though, not a taste test.

Both of those are all that and a bag of chips! I don’t use the Italian Cream much but when I do I am usually very happy when it is all said and done.It has a wonderful slightly sweet sharp note , but is a great HEAVY HEAVY cream.
I don’t have the RF version yet but I have read some great reviews.
The Holy Vanilla is still new to me but a single flavor test already showed me it’s potential. :grinning:

@BoyHowdy Tell a little more about the cherry pie flavor. Does it have that crust flavor in it or is it strictly the filling flavor? Does it have that little tartness you get when eating a piece of the pie and you bite into a whole cherry? Is it overpowering like Maraschino cherry or is it mild and when the tank is gone, you put in another juice after a couple vapes can’t tell it was there? Or do you taste that tell tail hint of cherry till the end of time?

After the DIYorDIE recipe contest I wanted to make that Apple Buttah …me and everyone else on the (DIY) planet. Butter Cream (CAP) was sold out on every site but GremlinDIY. Now I’m starting to see it in other (newly posted) recipes. I don’t think I’ve ever heard it spoken of out here in the Forum. I’m mixing some today (Apple Buttah) …I’ll let ya’ll know.

There is a lot of talk about Flavorah Boysenberry, it is truly wonderful, I however also bought some TPA Boysenberry, on first smell I was concerned as it was very medicine like. When I mixed some just to test it out the aroma lightened up and became very appealing. There is a definite difference in the smell of the two of them, but the TPA seems to smell very nice. It is steeping for now and will test the stand alone flavor in a week.
My two cents worth

I see some on your list that are fabulous and some are just so so and are hype flavors.

I have no baking zone but always see them being beefed up as well so can’t comment there

LA Blackberry my favorite Blackberry BUT if you have Cap’s it can sub for it same similar profile.

wOw- jury is still out… has this great powdery sugar I get on occasion…like searching for a rainbow’s end hmm will continue to work w/ this but as of now I see it as having mad potential.

INW’s Lemon Cake - grainy Hard to work w/. It will take over and hogs most of the profile then after about 20 days starts to lose the lemon but the cake and graininess is still there… I say hype all the way but that jmo.

INW Rhubarb- Shaping up nicely is very potent great realistic flavor. I have another vendor’s Rhubarb and both are wonderful true flavor of rhubarb.

OSDIYS Lucky Shot- Shaping up nicely as well its a newer one for me as well. Heavy on the caramel and cream thou I can see this being a bakery’s dream. I used it in a mix at 3% and it has made quite a presence. If you get this one…you may want to look into Lotta Latta and Blue note both are OSDIYS Blends and have been great the few times i’ve mixed w/ them.

I don’t have FW’s Butter Toffee or RF Cherry Pie…yet

HS Italian Cream is the Strongest straight up cream w/ no flavoring in it other than cream around think fresh cream on crack that’s Italian cream lol very heavy very stern and it’s very concentrated…very good lol

As a side note :

I have been taking Uber strong concentrates and diluting them as a 1:10 ratio and using them lately of course they’re all still steeping but from experience Joy FA gets sweeter sheds a lot of the beer note and leaves a mild sweet bread been testing it at 1-3% diluted form. I may attempt to do the same w/ INW’s Lemon Cake as I like the cake and cream it’s just super raw and grainy is the only way I can describe the taste I get from it , I will see if I can actually get a decent note from diluting it at a 1:10 ratio.

OK I skimmed through the DIY or DIE thread and didn’t see the Apple Buttah recipe or link, did I miss it? Can you shoot me a link to it or is it on the ELR recipes side of the site? (the only place I haven’t looked)

If beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, then who is the beholder of truth?? True beauty cannot just be seen with the eyes but also felt with the heart and experienced. Remember also, beauty like flavor is subjective, what one loves another loathes.

Now that’s some hype
