Handchecks (2020 - 2021)

dual 24’s = WOW ! those were just coming out as i was about to leave.
yeah, AVS, Fabricator. it was somebody on there that did the calculations for me for the box’s, i couldn’t figure that shit out, xmas, zmas, whatthefuckmas, i didn’t get it.
i have not much at all been there in a long time, 7-8 years. i probably seen you there. HT used to be a hobby also, now i just enjoy what i have, Pioneer Elite, XPA-3 v1, and a humble Benq projector, works well though. i can’t keep up with those JVC guys… i went to a GTG for a guy there, Fireman or something was his name. he had 3 21" i think in a box, and had 3 of those, and lots of amps. it was pretty loud, but distorted. mine plays just as loud and A LOT more clear, in a larger room. though, there were a lot of guys in that room, but still.

i wanted those TC’s, but could not spring for them, the Ultimax was bang for buck.

lets see your pics . did you notice the BB on one of mine.

i used to also be into guns and my HOT ROD, but money, or lack the of, has kicked those to the curb. but i went about them much like HT and vapes.

I hear the Ultimax is excellent, a friend of mine uses them for his flat packs.

Was it the guy who designed the Marty sub who did the calculations for you? Can’t recall his name but he was always designing subs for people and he is a partner in the above business.

I use to be able to calculate the box dimensions and all that but the laptop I used died and I was already out of it. Pretty much done for now with that hobby, nothing new enough to spark my interest and love vaping and diy ejuice so much more.

but, saying at that, see this here, where i used to live, a condo. this condo was contrate construction, floors, outside walls, and ceiling. this setup would kick your teeth in ! most of the sound was kept in the room, AMAZING ! i felt aa pressurized room only 1 time in this room. i would KILL to get that agaain !
and only 2 $70 12’s in 6cf box’s. when i find a better pic, i will post it. oh, i had lots a acoustic panels in this room. and it was mostly black.

oh, the Marty subs, i remeber those. idk if it was he, i could find out searching, maybe.

Hahaha, I had to go look but I have the same screen. It actually isn’t up, haven’t used the system upstairs for a long time now. I was making changes and lost interest. I had a acoustically transparent screen before that with my subs and speakers behind the screen but was looking to change it up.

My friends keep wondering if I will ever get back to it, I don’t know but just don’t have the desire anymore. One of my best friends just recently became a dealer in Vegas so I can get stuff at cost but still hasn’t convinced me to jump back in.

I still have all the equipment but just use the 75" 4k downstairs with a def tech system with built in dual 15’ powered subs. The system upstairs I am contemplating getting rid of and putting my dad’s pool table up. I have a few friends who would scoop up that system in a heartbeat, my friend who runs that flat pack company bought my 21" sub and asked if I ever get rid of my 24’s to please give him the first shot at them.

I really don’t miss it, it was a lot of fun at one time though.

I know it is a 119’ Dalite but I think it is the grey version for improved contrast with DLP projectors. It wasn’t mine originally, a friend of mine moved and couldn’t take his system so he sold it all to me. The Parasound Halo amps he had I originally sold to him, had a friend who worked at a AV store so got a lot of stuff at cost.

that sounds all right :+1: . one day i will be downsizing to stuff like that.

i was just searching on AVS, just to see what i was doing, and maybe grab some pics.

Hehe, used to go there all the time @mjag.

Jesus, I though I had plenty of low end with a single 15" Paradigm Studio Reference Servo.

:O.

Me too SD. I’ve got a big ass Paradigm reference myself. 300 watts I think it is, with their external control to set the crossover point.

Holy Crap @big_vape I thought I was the ONLY ONE !!!

Granted my Studio Reference speakers (and sub) may be a bit dated at this point, but whenever I put in a favorite movie, and crank up the Anthem MCA’s, I forget all about it. Luckily I swept my makeshift HT room, and had NO bass nodal issues, and was able to push full reference levels (and beyond) with some Studio 40’s and the Servo.

Nice choice there :).

Mine’s all older, and really just stereo, although I do have a brand new center speaker.
The parent company for which I worked was the CDN distributor for NAD, Marantz and PSB factory, so they had yearly sale or anything at cost+10%.

So I got a pair of NAD 218THX Power Amplifiers with a NAD Digital Preamp and that Sub feeding a pair of PSB Stratus Gold i’s
The Amps alone are each about 53 lbs. IIRC I had my speakers bi-amped and bi-wired, but had to reconfigure to repair one Amp

I think we need to rename this the Hometheaterchecks thread

Paradigm makes some killer gear for sure. I like all the stuff they made but it has been a few years.

I went deep into the weeds of home theater and was buying and selling like crazy. Had a friend who was a dealer for a bunch of high end lines, whatever wasn’t moving I would sell for him on ebay or audiogon so he didn’t break his dealer agreement. Of course I had to audtion the stuff first to make sure it all worked as promised

Krell, Classe, Mark Levinson, Enlightened Audio Designs, Proceed, Halcro, Theta, Wilson Audio, Thiel, Von Schweikert, Velodyne, Parasound Halo…etc. Sometimes I was swapping speakers and amps 2 to 3 times a month as they sold, it was a lot of fun trying stuff I normally couldn’t afford in my own home. The most expensive retail speakers I have ever owned was $7,500 each for the left, right and center, a total of $22,500 the Triad Platinum’s. They were used and needed some TLC but the price was too good to pass up. Probably my coffin speakers as I cannot find fault with them.

It was super interesting trying all this stuff and making extra money on top of it. It paid for my hobby so I really didn’t come out of pocket. I still have a JL Audio Fathom F112 and Earthquake Supernova MK15 just sitting around, need to either sell them or put them back into service, excellent subs.

Oh no, I hope this doesn’t renew my interest in it, vaping is dirt cheap compared to home theater lol.
