Power Japan has announced the development and mass production of the new “Dual Carbon” battery. Supposed to have a longer life cycle (3000 vs 1000) lithium ion, charge 20 times faster than lithium batteries, safer as it eliminates thermal runaway that causes explosion, it doesn’t heat up, it’s more powerful, requires no change to existing devices,fully recyclable and one 18650 operates at over 4 volts. They are starting production towards the end of the year and are planning to license their technology to other companies. Technology was developed for vehicles but other uses will greatly benefit as well.
