Hey , I made a juice with a tfa caramel and fw dulce de leche and a few other flavors . The juice tastes like actual shower gel soap lol
I’ve tasted the concentrates to find the offending flavour and I found both the caramel and dulce de leche taste like soap !
I would have thought maybe they off if was one but both taste like it !
I’ve only steeped for 2 weeks but I doubt that it will improve if the actual concentrates taste bad will it ?!
Is caramel just a pony flavor or what ?!
Thanks in advance
At what percentage did you use them? If you could put the recipe here, it would help other mixers to help you.
I’ve just added a screenshot of it , I subbed caramel candy for dulce de leche as it’s just what I had . Thanks for reply
Three things:
Fumonoid Recipes use The Flavor Apprentice Concentrates. That is what you are using correct?
Next, Everyone of those concentrates should be cut in half. IMO you have a over flavored mix.
Lastly, when in question always utilize the Flavor List on the Recipe side of this forum (I will attach the link). There is a wealth of information there that has been contributed by some very talent DIYrs in our Community. Including mixing percentages both Standalone & In Mix, Flavornotes & recipes that use the Concentrate you have questions about.
I hope this was helpful

Just try to dilute your juice with some base liquids, shake well and vape to see if there’s any improvement.
soapy flavors are generally speaking too high of a %, similar with burnt taste or even lack of flavor
Awesome thanks for advice , and yes all tfa bar the dulce de leche which is fw . I’ll give it a shot reducing them
Thank u very much , another user said the same Gonna give that a try now
I agree w all… those recipes are "Over The Top."
But not every “Bad Taste” needs to be diluted.
Some just need to “Steep” to bring them into "Goodness."
To taste caramel, I had to mix it in this recipe and give it a 4 week steep:
TPA Caramel Original had no taste on it’s own for me.
Thank u for reply , I’ve mixed it again anyhow but using 2% of each caramels and half the butterscotch. I’m now thinking maybe the two caramels well dulce de leche isn’t caramel but very similar maybe it’s that could potentially be over doing the flavor .
I’ve made a few of these fumnoid recipes in the past and they have so far been great .
Imma steep this one a good while this time thanks
Thank u , I’ve just made it over reducing each percentage .
Imma steep for a good while this time and see what happens.
It smells wonderful just tastes like hell haha
I have to replace cotton even after just 4-5 drips to try it
Thanks for reply
Cotton is ok , might like to read:
Interesting read !!
I have been having issues with TFA Caramel lately. It used to have an amazing flavor! But the last three or four batches I have made, something has changed, drastically!
I don’t use PG in my vape juice. To me, it always made the juice too thin, and it seemed to take away from the flavor. So, I strictly use VG for my base, other than what’s in the flavor and nicotine.
I used to do a TFA Caramel and TFA Toffee mixture, but went to just caramel, as it was becoming too sweet. Also, my total flavor content is 30%, or 70/30. It has always given my juice a really good flavor without being overbearing.
Now? TFA Caramel flavor has changed, and honestly, doesn’t taste like caramel anymore, regardless of how long I let it steep. What it tastes like (again, to me), is Sweet & Low! That very bitter, chemical flavor! I don’t know what they changed, but they completely ruined it.
How long have you been vaping TPA Caramel all by itself? Sometimes if you vape a strong flavor for a long time without any change the flavor can seem to change or even mute. I’d suggest changing your juice for a few days. My AdV contains LA Butter Rum which is a strong flavor and typically stands out a lot, though after a few weeks I cannot seem to taste it anymore. I usually change to something completely different (a straight menthol or a citrus ‘Lemon’ for a few days and come back to your caramel after a few days. It gives your palette a chance to recover then the caramel flavor will return to normal.
I have been vaping the caramel for probably 10 years(?). I know what you mean with getting used to the flavor and it not tasting the same. But, this change has been drastic.
I just made some watermelon/lemon-lime juice, but forgot how strong citrus flavors can be. So, it’s basically lemon-lime! lol Trying to find different flavors that I like, but I’m a picky bastage! I go from the lemon-lime flavor to the caramel flavor, and I just can’t taste the caramel at all. It literally tastes like I’m vaping sweet & low, without even a hint of caramel. I have only allowed it to steep for about a week, though. And I live pretty high up in the mountains, so I don’t get the warmth needed for proper steeping. So, I’ll see what it tastes like in another week or two. I have just never had this issue until my past few batches.
I also noticed that the TFA Caramel has changed in color and texture. It seems really thin compared to what they used to send me. I was able to steep for about 24 hours and get a pretty good flavor. I just don’t know what they changed, and why. WHY WOULD THEY DO THIS TO ME!!!???
Hmm… it seems there are two TFA caramels, there is caramel (original) and caramel flavor. Also… 30% flavor sounds like A LOT. Hey, but you do what I works for you.
I’m not sure if I have tried the original or not. I have done the regular caramel, and the caramel candy. Both have been pretty much wasted batches. So, I’ll probably give the original a try.
I order all of my supplies (besides nicotine) from The Flavor Apprentice, and sent them an email asking about it. They won’t get the email until today, since they were closed for the holiday. Hopefully I’ll hear back from them soon.
As for the 30%; when I started making my own juice, I was all over the place when doing my mixes. I looked up tips and recipes, and they said standard was between 25%-30%. I liked my flavor to be a little strong, so I went with the 30%, and it has worked for me.
Curious, though. What percentage of flavor to base would you recommend?
Thanks for the response!
Ok, cool. You gotta let us know what they say.
As far as what I use, it depends on the flavor. I don’t like making total % much over 10% though. I also use sub ohm, I’ve seen MTL vapes usually need higher %'s. I’ve never tried that particular caramel.
It seems caramel original actually contains corn syrup, I wouldn’t recommend using that one.
As an example though, for the regular caramel I would look at the notes and see what people are mixing. I try to stay away from older notes because they will use higher percentages than what’s needed for newer devices. I always start with the lower end of notes. I’d probably only try to use 1.5 to 2% to start. Also, deciding how much I will try to use depends on how the smell is. It’s not accurate, but it helps me decide how much I want that aroma/flavor in my mix. I actually just ordered a couple caramels, not tpa though. I’ll return with my thoughts on them.
Really the only caramel that I tried so far I didn’t like. It was caramel butter, I thought it tasted bad and sort of chemically. I’m hoping to get better results with the new caramels I ordered. I think they would make great accents.
