Also the added stress that people have from traveling to work… stress is a major killer (worse than smoking). Think about all the savings in national healthcare. Think about all the savings in environmental costs from less traffic on the roads.
It’s simply too complicated to throw a blanket over that and say “This Is So”, because there are many ways to measure productivity. If one is not making a tangible product on a factory line, how do you gauge an employee’s productivity? Number of hours worked? Number of emails answered? What’s the formula? And what about the decrease in gasoline used? That’s a huge tax revenue source, and a massively large industry. That’d put a good dent in the GDP, so where would that loss be made up?
Look up a few stories about people discussing all the Quarantine Weight Gain… see, there’s multiple sides to every story…
Because people can’t do their usual activities. I usually go play squash because I think running or cycling around the block is boring… haven’t been able to do that for over a month now.
The days I used to work from home, I used the time I saved from work travel to do other things. I was more active than sitting in the car 2.5 to 3 hours a day.
This quarantine argument doesn’t hold up in normal circumstances.
We can both go round and round scoring points here, but alas, I’m not interested in that. You may have the last word you always crave, my friend.
Agree, but the government should absolutely not be a part of this decisions, maybe in China i guess
I’m sure when this is all said and done, businesses will evaluate the work from home successes and failures and go from there. Without outside prodding, hopefully.
Add in the decline in the automotive industries and all the peripherals. There’d be a few unintended consequences, for sure.
I’d be interested to see some numbers on productivity during this period. I think it’s going to be very difficult to come to any firm conclusions on whether this was a successful trial run considering the extraordinary circumstances. The only thing I know for a fact is that I’ve been working from home and I don’t like it at all.
will just drop this here…
bring your own popcorn
I still wonder how many years/decades the Covid19/Corona will be here…
No significant changes here. Pay a little more attention to distance and keep a mask on hand. Breakfast on the deck and plan some drone flying for the afternoon. Mowed the lawn yesterday. Ate too many Orios last night. My wife will be driving to upstate N.Y. tomorrow to visit a relitive with lung cancer.
I’m more concerned with the reactions of the governments every time a new virus comes around. Imo, we’re screwed.
Yaa i understand because some country really have som scary governments.
In my country most of the population is proud of our government under this crisis, most of us never tried this before.
All politicians here in Denmark was 100% agreed how things should be handled, since the very beginning, very weird never seen this coming.
The last 2-3 weeks Corona starts up here again. And they take action right on to protect us all one more time.
But the population also respects all the guidelines from the government with mask, clean hands etc.
I’m moving back to the US in two weeks. One of the first things I’ll do is buy a few guns. Why? Because the government has guns. Those people worry me.
I understand ur concerns (we have family in US).
Where u move from?
But im happy only bikers and street gangs in Denmark, feel the needs to have weapons.
I’m in the UAE and moving to Atlanta, Georgia but I’m a New England boy. After two decades in the desert there is no way I can ever go through a snowy winter again. Georgia is a beautiful state with so many amazing places to do outside activities and I’m looking forward to getting there.
I stayed in a beautiful cabin in the woods on the side of a mountainous like hill in Georgia. It was a cool trip, but don’t drink the water! Lol. Worst illness I have ever had.
