How much is enuff?

I dropped this in the PUB in case it get a little rowdy.

I’m just curious about maxing out on forums, flavors, tanks, mods (vaping mods, not moderators).

How much is enuff and who has maxed out?..

The reason I ask is that I feel I’m getting very close.

It’s been a pretty long while since I been impressed by anything vape related. TBH I still enjoy creating a new mix that’s good, but it seems the WOW FACTOR has worn off. I really feel a lot that goes on here is a bit dull and the shine is wearing off. It seems that it’s all a been there done that situation… now help him or her thru it. IMO ELR has the resources to be at the top of all forums, but for some reason it’s not.

As much as I appreciate ELR for all it’s done for me, things has been stagnant here for a very long time. Maybe it’s just me and I need a very long break.

Speak your mind if you decide to reply. I promise not respond in a negative manner.

I’ll post a short answer since I’m on my way to bed.

-yup. A lot of pretty darn good things happened in the way of flavors and equipment has come about. However, in the last six months…well much has be a reinvent of the wheel. Mods just look different. Rtas and rda has slight improvements but nothing ground breaking. (Although there is a sonic wave thingy in the works). But over all adavancement of the is not the same as my furst year of vaping.

-elr has seen a decline in recpie talk and an increase of team free shit (lol, I post there sometimes…who doesn’t want free shit). Hudge increases in reviews of stuff recieved for free and hudge decline in reviews of something purchased that is just amazing. (Remember when the crown v1 came out? OMG)

-elr has seen an increase to posts to incite a negative response rather than then keep a topic on a track of positivity, inclusion, and vaping. I could remember the only time when things got out of hand was quibbles about if an rda was good or not…or a mech mod vs regulated.

Personally, I am excited about what flv has to bring to the table. I think vape train a year from now could bring the same excitement after a bit more development. Rf, despite the dart throwing in their attempts to get it right (odf I think is a fail in some respects), could still kick some ass if they could figure out how to manaufacture like flavoraurt does and the list goes on.

At the same time. I don’t need to buy more flavors. 200 some odd flavors (along with 20 odd ball spices and rarely used flavors like pepper fa and cardamom fa, taro, and etc) the flavor possibilities are endless.

Lastly, I think elr could turn the corner in being number one (@daath) is if the recpie side could have a second page where only verified members (which could be done via forum posts and etc) could post one recpie a week or month to be judged on…with rules of no single flavors, duplicates, and etc. every month the slate could be wiped clean or display (through inquiry:/; 06-01-18 thru 06-28-2018) one month at a time. (This is a ramble)

That being said the above is a rabmbke. No edits and purely thumbed for Everyobs enjoyment.

I am only just coming up on two years total vape experience for me so thankfully I havent lost most of the “shine” yet but can definitely see why and how it could.
A far as mods, I have always eased into trying a new “style” probably overthinking whether I should or not. I still have a few that interest me but still enjoying current styles so no actual rush there yet.
With flavors and profiles I am being similarly wary but thru reading and chatting w/ fellow vapers, an interest is sparked that wouldnt be w/o and have become bolder.
Although i dont belong or frequent any other forum, I can see it stagnant already w/ nothing really new interesting me already, perhaps i read too fast? idk I love, respect, and value opinions by everyone but the same question being asked nemerous times doesnt change them. Perhaps I am too shy and use the lil magnifying glass thingmabob and find my answer there versus starting a new topic.
When and if i come close to a similar conclusion as you, I hope I could have been as helpful and respected as u. But please dont be as bored as to leave entirely since I sure I will have a question about a flavor, wire, mod or style that i cant find w/ that wonderful search tool.

Well not much new under the sun - a few new flavours here and there but mostly just reups. Mod wise yes i still look at new regulated mods and even buy some for myself from time to time. I have to say I am such a sucker for a beautiful mech be it tube or box sometimes i just can’t help myself.

Im not a very active member since ive only been mixing for a year and that takes most of my spare time, ive made a lot of progress and basically only write my own recipes as other peoples recipes usually dont do it for me. If it wasnt for elr and all the members i would be totally lost, THANKYOU ! That being said it would be more helpful and enjoyable for me if there was more mixing and recipe related material. Competition breeds innovation, how about mixing contests ?

Forums go in cycles as do the contributors. Sometimes commenters you like leave and it makes it less interesting. Sometimes the mods change or change the policies of how they moderate and it gives it all a different feel. Sometimes you take a break and come back and it all seems new, other times you come back and immediately remember why you left. I think some of it is as subjective as the different flavors we all vape.

There are forums I left after years of participation and never went back and have no regrets. They changed or I changed or maybe its just overload. There have been times where I had to remind myself that I don’t have to feel obligated to go to this site or that. Sometimes you just have enough and have to give it a rest.

I like hardware and love to read what others think about it. Its one of the big draws for me.

For me personally, I’m not even close to being “maxxed out” yet. Only been a member for just over 3 months now (mixing one month longer than that) and am far too busy checking in most days (sometimes logged in and sometimes not) and eagerly scouring any and all threads/posts just in case I can learn something. There’s always some little “gem” I come across that gives me that “epiphany” moment. I have learnt so much here in my short time as a member and can’t really imagine a time when I won’t be at least half-excited about checking in.

As an example. it’s Saturday here in West Aust as I type this and I’ve been logged into ELR since maybe 9am this morning and it’s currently just after 3:15pm. Yeah, some may say I have no life  but I’m still finding it necessary and enjoyable just looking through various threads. Man, I’m looking into stuff I have no idea about (crazy coil builds, mech mods, squonking and of course recipes etc) but I find it so interesting and you never know, one day all this information might come in handy.

So what I’m saying here is … I’ve been far too busy mining information from ELR to even get close to being “maxxed out”. Come ask me in another 5 years say and maybe my answer will be different  Currently I’m as happy as a pig in you-know-what.

OK, gotta head off now and read the 52 unread topics my tracking is telling me I have. Cheers…

I’m still drinking in all ear has to offer… when time allows. One thing I would really like to see is a better flavor notes resource. In the forums, tasking notes are all over the place and within each thread there is no simple order to how the notes are written, the parameters people want to see from a reviewer (star rating x/10 etc) but mostly, all the sidebar replies that make it hard to read eaily. Even in the Flavor Resource List Notes, too much repetitive use of other’s notes.

What I would love to see is a good flavor swap guide options section. For any given White Chocolate Peppermint, why can’t we see a list of alternative manufacturers that we might use, with a thoughtful comparison /difference guide.

Many people’s questions could be resolved with such a tool, it would clean up the forums maze very nicely. How many items show in a search for FLV Tasting Notes? There has to be a more streamlined way to access our body of knowledge and experience.

There is never enuff. Might I suggest you wander through a local museum or something out of your normal week, stroll by a beautiful garden you know of… then look through a website like America’s Table for recipe ideas that might challenge you when translating them from food to vape.

@Pro_Vapes You are a very helpful and appreciated contributer.

We all know I write a lot, when commenting and this topic just screams for another novel.

I’d like to say that forums in general burn me out nowadays. But I love helping people, especially when I remember how I started and lost I was, sometimes still am.

I went trough so much trial and errors, purchases and hours of reading older stuff, just to find out, these information’s were and are outdated, or/and plain wrong, or even bias because it was given out as freebie.

If somebody would have lend me a helping hand, I’m sure it would of been less frustrating, and still to these days its stressing me out, when I can’t find a solution. I rather not ask, because lately everybody is so easily offended.

Back in the day, you could jump in a topic and give quick answers, that might have been helpful or even just small talk. Getting too know people etc. Lately every time I post something, I need to worry whom I offended this time, unintentionally.

Things I thought were light and fun, turn into a huge discussion, were at the end you need too explain yourself, which then pisses another person off. Never ending cycle.

I like this forum and the people I got too know, I’m not around that long yet, and I would hate seeing it go the wrong direction, but as you mentioned maybe some changes would be nice.

As I read the part about negativity I agreed and still do, but look what I do right now. Right list everything negative, I’m just not sure how else too phrase it lol.

If we could get rid of single flavor recipes, and maybe add some categories, it would be less overwhelming or/and difficult too find things. I love the “what can I make option” but I’m not browsing through 120 copies of unicorn milk/porn/vomit/poop and whatever else they might be called.

I’m sure I’m missing much more, but its 2 am and I gotta get up at 5:30, so I’ll just stop here.

@Pro_Vapes, I saw your posts around but sadly I didn’t get the opportunity of knowing you just yet. I’m certain you could teach me a thing here and there, but for me you’re at the top. Hard to explain, but I try not too bother the “famous” and stick with the beginners, much more suited for me anyways. At least I don’t feel stupid alone lol. I hope you stick around, but I could understand if you need a break.

Quick and to the point…

YES

I maxed out, so to speak, about a year ago. I won’t speak to the forum bit, as to not hurt butts, but I found my sweet spot in setups years ago and I have always had the “if it ain’t broke…” mentality when it comes to hardware. I have also never felt the need to run out and by the week’s hottest new item. I’ve just always had my work setup and my home setup. No reason to change.

Flavors on the other hand…

Years ago I had a massive addiction problem. I’m not sure if it was more finding good flavors, or if it was a “collect them all” mission I was on, but I was actively watching shops, manufacturers and forums (ELR) for new flavors. Then I reached a point (somewhere around 1500 flavors) where I just said why. Why do I need more. Why do I need to try a new company. Just why. Sure, I may find a nice new flavor, but I already had so many with inw, fa, flv, mf and the occasional tfa, to really need more. I never jumped on the RF train or any of the newer flavor companies of late. The appeal to find new flavors just wore off. Shit, the appeal of mixing as a whole wore off over a year ago. Sure, I still mix, but it’s been out of necessity, than pleasure. So in a way, I maxed out on mixing that new gem. I had the flavors I enjoy and the juices I always seemed to come back to.

So I’m not sure if this is what you are speaking to exactly @Pro_Vapes, but I have maxed out on just about everything vape and anything that surrounds it, somewhere in early 2017.

It’s crazy to think about where I was years ago. Spending any and all free moments I had, sitting in my lab like a cracked out mad scientist until the sun came up, losing my vision due to my eyes bleeding from staring at my scale, computer screen and every precise drop. Dare I say, I’m over it

Now, I may sit down once every other month and whip up a few dozen new things, using the flavors I have had and been happy with for a while now and trying them on my setups that have never let me down for that same amount of time

Maybe it’s just a matter of finding a little more balance in your life…
If everything revolves around a single thing, you’re going to get burned out. Whether that’s work, a forum, any other hobby. Variety is the spice of life and you need to have a balance to stay happy.

So if you feel it’s all getting too much and it’s not adding anything new or exciting to your life any longer, look for other things in life that do need your attention a bit more. Make sure you get back in your happy spot. Life’s too short to get bored and disappointed.

Yup, same here, I have maxed out big time.
I haven’t ordered any flavours, (apart from restocking), mods or tanks for at least a year.
My inbox is flooded with Mothers-day deals but they are just getting binned.
The upside of that is that I’m finally saving money after feverishly collecting any flavour, mod or tank I could get my hands on.

Now I’m just wondering what the next new thing can bring to the table that I don’t already have.

Mixing has gone the same way. I usually vape on a single tobacco flavour that I like, although I was recently so adventurous as to mix up a fruit concoction :astonished:

I used to be into that a lot more in the past then I am now. Sometimes when I think that it would be a nice gift for a noob that I know or it is something that I would never buy because of the price but usually I just don’t bother anymore.

I do still frequent the forum and will help out when I can and I do come across new people who exhibit the same enthusiasm that I used to have so it’s probably just us old farts who think, been there done that bought the t-shirt and slept with the band.

I’m getting an image in my head of stamp collections gathering dust

Maybe we are just over the manic fase and have finally become normal :stuck_out_tongue:

Like you, I appreciate and enjoy the interaction here on ELR. As well as the other platforms I use.
In reality that stagnant feeling is such a accurate statement. I keep finding that I am more active in those groups where it is mainly comprised of “New to” members. They seem to be so delighted to talk about anything Vape/DIY related. And genuinely appreciate your input.
When you are in very well established Forums with a Group of Talented individuals like ELR.
It starts to get a little stagnant. How many times can you discuss the virtues of Strawberry Ripe and which Scale do you use  So then you end with 20 very active members who write reviews, post links for beginners, skim through and read what has been posted. Then go off to work on dialing in their latest concoction.

I can imagine being in you guys position after years of mixing/vaping. But for now that seems to be far far away…

From my point of view this could be a good idea. As a new mixer (who only mixes for himself, mostly) sometimes I’m sort of afraid to post my recipes here because I read some negativity towards “newbie mixes”.
If I can speak for us “newbies”, we are only trying to fit in this wonderfull community and who doesn’t like to think of himself being good at something. Maybe there could be a sort of category (thread) for different level of experience mixers so that the experinced mixers have a place to post, but also newer mixer can post in order to get feedback.
What I learned in this month being here is that all of you are very helpfull and friendly. To me it seems that this forum is quite active and diverse.
I also think that a few years ago there weren’t that many flavor companies/hardware to choose from. For a new mixer it becomes more and more difficult to find the trees through the forest so to speak.
Well…this were my 0.02 cents.
Have a great day and greetings,
Tim

Well @Pro_Vapes, you better not go no where, or please don’t go nowhere, cause i have not got to my MF flavors yet !!! And I will need some help. I have only been here since dec. 17, and have been in a few vape forums and many other hobby forums that I venture to, gun forums, offshore fishing forums, giant scale R.C. airplane forums, machinist forums, welding forums, steelworker forums, how to forums, etc. and by far this forum
obliterates all forums!!! The people here just really Beautiful in all kinds of ways, the info is Huge and important in my mixing endeavor, I only mix for myself and I love to read and grasp and hold onto this. Well I could go on some more , but I got to get to work.

You can post your new recipes here and I’m sure they won’t bite your head off
If anybody dares anyway, just tag me and I will take care of them :muscle:

And if you have a recipe that you don’t seem to get right you can ask for input here.

ELR forum (for it being an open discussion of a variety of topics) is kept fresh by its topic classification.
Want to talk about recipes, go to the recipes side/clone
Want to talk about flavors? go to the flavor review section
Want to just blow off steam and bullshit with other mixers. go to pub

With thousands of varieties of outcomes for flavors, I don’t think we have maxed out,
Tanks/mods have maxed out though, I think it peaked when the velocity came out with endless air flow, and the 40mm decks with deck capability. With the exception of tech that can sense when you are taking a hit or bigger battery capacity, I don’t see where mods can go.

Maybe adding more computer stuff like email or etc, but I don’t forsee anything different.

Folks talk about recipes, but this being a forum for recipes, it’s niave to think we should be restricted to only talk about recipes. The “popular” recipes had their conversation when they first came out years ago, the new ones that pop up get their talk too. It’s a personal preference, but I take breaks here and there, i’ll stock pile my flavors, i’ll stockpile and make a half gallon of juice and i’ll ghost for a few weeks.

Your outlook on ELR over the course of the few weeks I’ve been seeing you post has been dwindling from a “I don’t have good things to say” to “this is stagnant”,

If you have a problem, offer a solution, but maybe a good break from not only ELR or vape forums, but social media in general. I’m saying this from a good spot though, I cut off social media for about 3 months and kinda found myself, and learned that it was outside stressors that was turning hobbies into things I started to hate doing and hobby friends into people I couldn’t stand to be around or talk too.

Once I fixed that stress it was a complete 180 to come on here and be excited to be a part of the world again. Maybe theres some underlying stuff that’s making you see ELR or etc in a negative light? Do you feel this way about other forums you’re about of?

Which forums? How do you feel about them?

I think that It’s normal to become tire of hobbies, which mixing is for me. I’ve many hobbies that I rarely revisit. One day I hope that I will break my addiction and quit vaping, at which point I doub’t that I’ll spend much time with ELR (at that point I’ll expect a shrine to be constructed)

The Glory of ELR is that when the veterans get tired, they pass on their knowledge to the new and enthusiastic members of the community who try new flavors and carry on the good work, eventually they will lead the way.

I agree with your statement on social media, I haven’t been on Facebook since my daughter was born over 9 months ago, and that was the only social media I had left, as I had already gotten rid of twitter well before that. This forum is the only place I talk to people online lol and it is because there is knowledge to be gained by coming here, unlike other social media sites. The more I learn though the less I feel like I “need” to get on here, and I can understand @Pro_Vapes point of view too, he has been a member of this forum for a long time and has gone from student to teacher, and that can create a feeling of stagnation because there are no new mountains to climb.

The mountains to climb for me are mostly clone requests, helps me find out about new flavors and help someone else out too
