Good gawd. If that is the commonly used air quality scale, anything over 200 becomes quite oppressive. When we were ~250 for days (due to Canadian forest fires), we had the world’s worst air at the time.
Add the vast numbers of people who have (or are actively sick with) Tuberculosis - and it sounds like “vaping” is way down on the list of natural pathogens and man-made toxicity in their air. To boot, they refuse to give suffering and dying people adequate pain-relief (Lancet estimated in 2017 that they only meet ~5% of their need for Morphine analgesia). Blind to scientific decisions, and hung-up on moral nannyism, people suffer in life and death. (IMO), hard to square such policies with their religious respect for living creatures.

No kidding… it is hard to imagine people can actually still breathe with a 999 AQI.
Air Quality Index Categories
The AQI is divided in six categories and each category is meant to correspond to different health concern levels. Below is an explanation of the categories and their meanings.

0 – 50 indicates “Good” AQI . At this level the quality of air is deemed to be satisfactory, and air pollution poses little or no risk.

51 – 100 indicate “Moderate” AQI . This means acceptable Air quality. However, some pollutants might arouse modest health concern for a limited number of people. For instance, persons who are remarkably sensitive to ozone may experience respiratory symptoms.

101 – 150 indicate “Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups” AQI . This category may not be able to affect the general health of the public.
