IPV2 Mini - Battery Drain at Rest

Anyone else have this problem? I thought maybe I was just hitting the thing to hard at 60w on some tester drippers. A few times lately I will use it, testing juices at maybe 20 puffs. Then come back next day and the battery is dead. So I made it a purpose to monitor this last battery. I took 5 good tugs off of a new battery. This was on Thursday. Today the battery is completely depleted and when I put on the charger it showed 1.57 volts. The mod won’t take a battery down that low from just vaping. I’m thinking I should just trash the stupid thing as I feel it’s now a safety hazard. Any thoughts?

Have you tried another battery?

Absolutely. I have about 5 or 6 unpaired that I use in rotation.

It’s definitely not a battery issue then, bummer. Haven’t you got any warranty on the mod or has it expired?

No, I’ve had the mod a while but it really doesn’t matter. I didn’t like it from day one and have only been using it to test new mixes with. I’ve heard a lot of good things about P4Y mods until the problem with the IPV4s and now this one.

I’ll tell you something unrelated but which speaks to the quality of this particular mod though. I bought a Jwap for it several weeks ago and as I was applying it I noticed it was going on a little crooked. So I started to peel it back and wouldn’t you know, paint was coming off in huge chunks. So I slapped it on crooked and it’s been a burr under my saddle ever since. I guess I’m glad for a reason to toss it now

No problems with the IPV4s to my knowledge. Only the IPV4 has the problem. I love my IPV4s…

I’m sorry if I misspoke. I’m referring to the issues with the charging board and battery pin. Perhaps I have the models confused.

That would be the IPV4 then for sure.the S is the update. Probably the S in IPVs means SAFER…lol

that is how my ipv4 was acting before it caught fire the battery pin inside was grounding out when inserted???

Thanks. The Mini doesn’t have the same type connector and is really just a tube slot for a single. I figured before tossing this thing I would tinker with it. I’ll tear it down some day but for now it’s occupying the same space as my Tesla tube and iStick 20.

I got to thinking about your problem with this unit and wondered if it is possible your problem is juice in the electronics after seeping into the contact pin area. Has this happened to this mod a lot? Consider this, water is a conductor of electricity. That said we would think that ejuice has some conductivity. What if you have enough juice in there to cause enough conductivity to cause like a feedback and a constant drain on the battery. Just a theory but I see nothing else that could explain this being the coil does not fire during the draining…

are there any tear Downs on YouTube?

Excellent! Once I tear this thing down I’ll report back. Thank you!

Don’t know how much you’re into electronics but they make a non-conductive cleaner for electronics that dries quite quickly when used if it is juice that is the problem…

Best of my recollection it’s called electrocontact cleaner. My dad used it back in the day when he owned a TV repair shop. I shot it in his butt crack a few times when he was bent over working. Got his damn attention I’ll tell you!

I thought I was interested in electronics at the time and joined the Army in 1983 and trained as a 31-E (Field Radio Repair). Training was almost 9 months and somewhat intensive. Honestly I hated electronics and even more so these days. I was going to try and find some info online for this MOS but it looks like the Army rearranged their MOS codes and now 31-E is part of military corrections? Hmmm. Do you think mobile and satellite phones have replaced all those old radios?

You would think I would have a bit above average working knowledge of all things electronic but truthfully as soon as I got out of the military I never looked back, and never sought a job using my military training.

OK, make sure you have some of that stuff you shot in your Dad’s butt crack handy…lol

Qwik Dry Electronics cleaner by CRT…you can get it any auto parts store.
Interested in this topic, I’m still using my Ipvii almost everyday with no issue, but I’m not doing 60 watts, only 15-30 watts at .6-.8ohms.(cause I like to swap tanks onto mechs when I go out and I want them to be safe)

Hey guy, what ever happen with this mod? Just wondering how it turned out…

I still haven’t torn into it yet. It’s kind of low on my priorities list. I’m still using it for testing flavors with a RDA but only keep a battery in it while I’m using it. I’m afraid to leave one in it unattended although I’ve never felt it get hot except when running like 60 watts.

Understand !!! Just don’t leave me hanging once you tear it down. I really am interested…
