Yeah I learned my lesson on that one! I would rather remain positive and stay away from such drivvle like that on the FDA’s site…still wish they had the whiners contact info hehe We could all blast their emails with the facts
But then you’re still visiting bullshit mountain. Trying to refute BS arguments made by idiots comes down to validating those non-arguments. They don’t merit validation, only ridicule. Idiots like that should be heartily laughed at, there’s no point in arguing with a fool. It is like spraying bullshit with roundup and we want our bullshit as organic as it comes.
You are better of saving the facts for people who are willing to listen to more than one point of view before they make up their minds. Much better for your general constitution.
I suffered a spontaneous pneumothorax on two separate occassions, both were fixed by pleurodesis which is an extremely painful procedure. My right lung was deflated ~70%, the left lung was ~90% and brought me closer to death than I care to admit.
After several years I’m still doing regular follow ups with a pulmonologist.
Spontaneous pneumothorax can happen to anyone but it mostly happens to males, usually between the ages of 14 and 30.
Smokers are more prone to suffering this, but it’s definitely not exclusive to them. Tall, slender men are most prone to this. In some cases it’s because of malnutrition, stress, or lifting too much weight.
The latter is probably most relevant to your situation, as you say the sensation began as you turned to reach behind you.
I had been a smoker for 20 years and my lungs were still in relatively bad shape when I quit smoking, which was now about a year ago.
In the past year I’ve had several tests done on my lungs and to see what effect vaping has on my lungs and I’m pleased to say my lung capacity has increased, my stamina has increased, and my lungs are clearing up just fine. Note that I vape at +70W on a dripper all day, and can safely say vaping has little no negative effects on your lungs.
However your lungs are now in a damaged state and need to rest as much as they can so I wouldn’t recommend vaping for the first couple of weeks at least. Give the lung time to heal and then start up slow in a few weeks. Consult your pulmonologist every six months to ensure your safety. A second collapse could permanently damage your lung.
Yep, that’s me! I wish I fell into the 14-30 range though
That was the bullet I dodged THANKFULLY!! It sounded like some medieval shit and you could tell on the monitors the minute the doc started talking about it, that I was a bit nervous…to say the least
But damn brother, I’m sorry you had to go through all that! I can relate in ways but I can’t imagine dealing with both lungs! I’m glad you are on the path to healing though!
I have been taking it as easy as I can but the biggest issue I’m going through is the pain in the middle of my spine, I’ll need to go get an MRI this week if I don’t notice any progress but the pain is something I have never felt before and I have been through some painful shit in my life!
I’m still baffled with the extreme damage my body experienced by the simplicity of what I did. I just turn ever so slightly in my chair and BAM! I didn’t strain or even stretched when I reached for my papers and I’m just dumbfounded how this all happened
Thanks for sharing your story and thanks for your kind words!
I had the bad luck of being a tall and slender smoker, and very sensitive to stress.
I reckon without the pleurodesis I stood no chance of recovering really.
The pain in your spine is something I’ve experienced myself, though it was more between the shoulders that I felt stabbing pains.
It lasted for a few months in my case, and got me worried quite a few times.
There’s little you can do about it, it’s basically the lung healing.
As with any wounding or scarring, your lung is slightly swollen during the healing process and that’s what you’re feeling.
It’ll fade over time, but you’ll probably have some added sensitivity when the weather changes.
Thanks man, the doc never mentioned anything about the pain being associated with the lung…ER doc though, so they dont dive in too deep
Thankfully today it has subsided so I’m not too concerned at the moment, it still hurts but it’s manageable and not that extreme stabbing pain that would drop me and make me scream
Thankfully I don’t live in the Chicago climate anymore and Im down on the Gulf in florida so our weather changes are hot, really hot, balls sizzling hot and then back to hot
Glad you’re doing ok (?) now. I’m familiar with your weather (although we get a tad less humidity). I’m in the So Cal desert where the thermometer reads hot, hotter and fuck all. About the nicest thing is wearing shorts and a t-shirt while grilling Christmas dinner outside.
Yeah I LOVE fucking with my people back home every year when they are freezing their asses of and buried in snow and I’m kickin back in the pool in the middle of January!
I love hot weather though so I dont think its that bad here at all, plus I’m on the Gulf so I always have that ocean breeze
It really only gets “nasty” hot and humid for 1-2 months out of the year around this time. But from Nov-April/may its what I call Goldielox weather…just perfect!
It is sad though I have only been down here 3 going on 4 years and if it drops below 70 I have to bundle up like it’s-20 in Chicago haha When I moved here it was around X-mas and I saw people wearing gloves, scarves and hats and shit and I said WTF?! I’ll never be like that! Although I’m not THAT bad, I still get cold when its below 70
The flip side to reading this garbage is knowing what you’re up against. Knowing your enemy makes for a better plan of attack.
Your example of the woman in the theater reminds me of an aunt that I have. If she sees vapor she goes into a full blown asthma attack and once even called 911 because she couldn’t breathe. The really funny thing is she will then go and lock herself in the bathroom with her steam humidifier (with menthol drops) because it helps her breathe. I swear the woman should be given an Oscar for best dramatic performance.
Oh crap that brings back memories of when I first moved here! LOL My first summer here it got to 121F and I was ready to kill anyone who wished me a good morning. Now I too have to bring out the jacket when it gets below 75. My sisters live in Idaho and they get really pissed at me around November. Can’t help rubbing it in.
You really cant! I dont know about you but when we used to suffer thru a midwest winter the #1 thing we used to say was “I wanna move somewhere warm” or “I wish we lived somewhere warm”
So I almost feel it is my duty to rub it in, like saying look bitches! I didn’t wish I did! haha all in good fun of course
Damn bro!!! glad you alright but you KNOW there’s a DUM ASS born Everyday even doe they got Bachelors degrees, all they care about is their policy’s but be strong and VAPE ON lolololo
I’m not meaning to run off the topic of vaping.
Not general knowledge to most: Anytime a muscle has been pull; inhale deep; and push, (expand the area); don’t just do it once. The pain will subside sooner than normal.
So if I’m understanding you correctly, you are saying since this was my first time having this issue my pain will go away faster? Makes sense and I am doing a lot better btw
At anytime a muscle is pull within the chest area; most of the time the back. Inhaling deep to expand the lungs then pushing outward toward the painful area (endure the pain), will greatly reduce the time needed for the pain to diminish. I have heard of this method many years ago and found that it works very effectively. Some of the muscle pains that have occurred in the morning are gone by noon.
Give it a try next time.
In my little town, Henderson, Kentucky, USA; people seem to be coming around. City employers offer a 10% discount to employees who switch to vaping. Our local hospitals stop smoking classes use to just advise nicotine gums or patches, now they actively support vaping. It’s illegal to smoke tobacco in Kentucky, we were the first state to pass that law. However, at least here in Henderson, it’s up to the business to allow or disallow vaping. I never ask if I can, I just stealth vape when in public and no one has ever objected. If I can get away with vaping in the ER, and ICU when the nurses KNOW I’m vaping due to the heavenly smell, I’m good! Yes, there are still some ignorant asses around. I’ve gotten to where I ask them if they have vanilla flavoring at home. When the say yes, I tell them to read the bottle and go on my way, I’ll let them do the WTF when they read PG as the first ingredient. lol
