I bought this HP laptop about 7 months ago. Yesterday it started randomly shutting off even though the battery is fully charged. Today I can’t get it to stay powered on. I bought a new charger for it, a new surge protector and used several different wall outlets. The power light will blink for a couple seconds, then shut off. Does anyone know why it would be doing this? I still have a warranty, however geek squad can fix it until next week. I’m hoping someone in the group can possibly tell me what’s wrong with it. Ty

I have the worst luck with HP laptops. Maybe I should invest in a MacBook.
I tried to upload a video via Imgur. The app doesn’t work on my iphone , for some reason.
Count the number of blinks…it may be an error code.
Also you could try and do a hard reset if you feel comfortable.
Try getting a Dell
This looks helpful to know what the blinks mean.

@robin I’ll let you sort through the responses above. I’ve been a HP Lappie fanboy for a while, and have at least 4 of them in rotation at any one time, from new ssd smokers to refurbs that live in my company vehicle year round, and have had great luck. Can you provide the exact model number please ?
There’ve been issues (so I’ve read) with the windows drivers in w10 and 8.1.
IIRC there’s two drivers for the laptop battery monitoring system, and one of them should be uninstalled, and then let windows scan and reinstall it anew.
There’s also the memory effect to consider. So depending on how old the unit is, that might be at play here as well.
I would suggest a Dell or Asus.
I wish you luck.
@Sprkslfly, I’ve not had any of those issues on the 6 that I use, or have had. Wonder if those issues were W8.1 related. I’ve only got W7, and W10.
I was under the impression @robin was using a very new lappie. Waiting for her response. If you stumble across any readings about that, drop me a link, because you never know if I’LL need it one day.
I second that!
Well I knew I wasn’t a fan of W10, but now I’m even less. I think right now, I’m 50/50 W7/W10, and haven’t had any batt issues yet. Thanks for the share.
I’m not a laptop fan in general, but my son’s HP lappie had a similar problem and we narrowed it down to the fan not working. Apparently his model had a feature where the thing wouldn’t work at all unless the fan passed a self check or something. Found a replacement on ebay and a tutorial on replacing it and that did the trick.
Ok thank you
Thank you, I’ll try this.
The technician from geek squad told me the same thing.
I bought it 7 months ago. My last HP only lasted 2 years.
Wow, thank you. Very informative.
Ok, when I get home from work tomorrow I’ll send it to you.
