I like your thought process here. Think ill grab one, the MF Silver’s can be tricky to work with and i dont like making dilutions.
I’ve done grams and ounces with this Taylor scale but it just doesn’t pick up the smaller quantities hardly if at all.
I actually use the battery with mine. It doesn’t shut off while I’m mixing unless I lose focus and stop paying attention, like looking up something on my phone. Sometimes if I’m taking a little longer to find a flavor or if I’m not ready I just hit the tare button to keep it awake. Sometimes I mix at the dining room table and there’s no outlet that are safe to plug it into, it would create a trip wire if someone wasn’t careful and ran into it. Then that would result juice and mess everywhere.
I also mix in another spot that doesn’t have easy access to an outlet, so but yeah. Battery isn’t too bad.
Okay, So I actually just did a test. The scale stayed on for 5 minutes and 11 seconds, before it shut off due to inactivity.
Early surprise, it came a day early.
The only downside I can talk about is how it does turn off even plugged in after 3 or 4 minutes.
That being said it was a huge breath of fresh air to watch the scale update the weight as I pour or drop liquid in, thank you and everyone else for this recommendation, truly night and day difference, that Taylor scale will be trashed tomorrow.
So much better in every way.
Now just gotta wait for it to steep.
Made 60 ml of watermelon strawberry bubble gum with sweetener and cooling.
@Kev, you got the LB-501 right ?
If so, when it’s plugged in, it should never turn off. Same thing with the blue back light, once you turn it on, it should never turn off.
You took the battery out right?
Congratulations on your new scale!!! I’ve never used it plugged in anyhow. Backlight and scale stays on for 5min with inactivity. Like session drummer said though, it should not turn off plugged in, so I’m wondering if it’s trying to use the battery if its in there.
Yeah the 501, I plugged it in and had the backlight on and it turned off after about 3 minutes, no batteries in it.
I didn’t put batteries in it.
That’s weird. My scale with batteries stays on for 5min. ![]()
Strange indeed. The power adapter has a red light if that makes any difference but I don’t think so.
Wait. Hold on a sec. The light on my plug is green.
I wonder if they put a different plug into the product box. I’m about to test it in time and see if it goes off.
Well … Shit. I’m just trying it with the batteries in for a second to see what would happen, and the plug light is still green.
Here’s what my plug looks like.
It’s not turning off when I have it plugged in.
I wonder if they changed the manufacturer.
@Kev I checked my OG manual, and it doesn’t mention any power down, or time outs. I think I used it for a week on batteries, but it did time out, and then I plugged it in, and it never powered down again. Mine stays on for hours at a time, and not only does the backlight stay lit, the scale stays powered up to.
The TARE button label self destructed over a year ago LOL. All of mine, have green lights on the transformer too. This pic is after it’s been powered up for over an hour with no load on it.
If yours is powering down with the AC transformer plugged it, either the scale is defective, or AWS made some kind of product change, which doesn’t make sense, as powering down defeats the purpose of using the transformer in the first place.
Where did you buy it from ?
I bought it on Amazon, I never really paid attention to who the supplier was though, I’ll get a couple pictures in about 30-45 minutes.
I figured seeing yours that maybe it was because I was in a power strip so I tried directly into the wall but still red.
Wonder if mine is defective, I see a low battery symbol when I’m plugged in but don’t see it on yours.
Also upon further investigation my plug doesn’t seem to go all the way into the scale unless I’m not pushing hard enough to get it in.
Looks like I have a low battery power symbol when I’m plugged in as well.
Wonder if it’s defective since I don’t see it in your pictures.
Hmmm, @Kev the red LED aside, those two issues above, are enough to return it right there. I’ve NEVER seen a low bat symbol, and we’ve already talked about the AC transformer not powering down issue too.
It sure is a reason to return, I’m gonna look into that very soon
