Must agree with @Beaufort_Batches the Holy Vanilla, Pound Cake, and Gooey Butter Cake are all really good. I also really like they’re pretzel. You have to mix it kind of high but its really a pretzel flavor!
@Leilani I have those GetSuckered flavors. I’ll take pics of them. Give me a few.
I have not solo tasted these but I did just taste them off my hand and they are definitely different. It almost seems like they took the get suckered flavor and added a ton of vanillin to it. I don’t have anymore of the flavor shack pound cake to compare.
Thank you JJL for the comparison contrast! That is really useful information to know. The Vanilla PG by GetSuckered is fairly dark in color - is it more of a rich & creamy vanilla or a dark & bold vanilla?
Also, regarding the Holy Vanilla type flavor from GetSuckered, Flavologist in the same thread stated:
They have two kinds of the French Vanilla - he said it was the one that did not state “Stronger”.
Mine is the stronger version. Or as on the label 2x stronger. It’s a dark bold vanilla. It’s real close to holy vanilla bit it’s also missing the sweetness that holy vanilla has in it. If this “stronger vanilla” is what flavor shack uses they probably add a little sweetener and vanillin to it. If they added those two items it probably would make it lighter.
So i had not heard about these folks before. The very first thing i did was search for Custard, of course, and am now considering breaking my ban on new flavorings:
Natural & Artificial Custard Flavoring- (PG). Does not contain Lactic Acid.• Does contain Diacetyl, Acetoin or Acetyl Proprionyl.
Thank you for describing the Vanilla flavor to me. That is very useful regarding the “2x = Stronger” version. Thank you JJL. I am definitely more interested in acquiring this Vanilla and the French Vanilla.
Takes golden staff and slams it into the rock hard earth. In a thunderous voice that reaches the Heavens“MAY THE BAN OF NEW FLAVORS BE LIFTED!”
When I ordered Holy Vanilla from DIYFS I asked if they could send some samples my way. Never hurts to ask right? They sent me Toasted Marshmallow and Cream. The toasted marshmallow was good, just difficult to find a place in my recipes. The Cream on the other hand was absolutely amazing. Not only is it a delicious cream flavor but I was amazed at how good it is as a shake and vape. No steeping required. For any kind of cream/milk base to be this good right out of the bottle is a real game changer for me. If you enjoy creams with your fruits, this may be right up your alley, especially given how many creams can mute the top notes of some fruits. With almost no steeping time, you can shake and vape your favorite fruit and cream recipe without the wait or muting. Your mileage may vary, but I absolutely recommend giving their Cream a try.
The angel food cake requires a lot of diluting, roughly a 1/3 of flavoring and the rest as PG or VG. Otherwise it will be very strong.
I agree about the added sweetener. I just refuse to pay flavorshack prices when I can usually find the source of most flavors.
To get a bit more insightful on the whole flavoring biz (if you have a bit of chemistry background) I would recommend subscribing to P&F (perfumer & flavorist).
I use a few additional “enhancers” for some of my more popular mixes, like methylthio-2-methylpyrazine (instead of acetyl pyrazine), it gives a better “baked” taste to my bakery mixes and doesn’t have that “fritos” smell or that awful aftertaste some notice.
I’m pretty sure many of the “big” juice makers tinker with the flavorings as I do, that’s how it becomes such a undertaking to replicate some of their juices. There’s always one “note” that’s missing. Finding it can be almost impossible, unless you happen to have access to a mass spectrometer. No, I don’t have one, but if anyone wants to share…
@juice_junkie_lover, it varies, depending on the minimum quantity the will sell (some will only sell by the drum) but a couple of my favorites are Natural Advantage (www.NatAdv.com
Plus they send free samples!) and Treatt (www.treatt.com).
Some require waivers and an F.I.N. but some will sell to the public. Best advice is to call them for samples. I wouldn’t bring the issue of vaping with them, mainly because they’re trying to keep their distance from such a hot button issue (one reason that the vaping industry wasn’t included in this year’s Flavorcon ) , but you can ask info like, “what emissions are emitted from this compound when heated above its boiling point?” usually it will be part of the MSDS you’ll receive, since many of their products are used in the food and beverage industries.
To get the full list of suppliers visit the perfumer & flavorist Web page. Pay attention to what the company offers. Some only offer perfume scents. Look up CAS # before you order. @Leilani, yes that’s them. Subscriptions are free, so it doesn’t cost anything but a little time trying to understand the industry.
