Welcome to the May installment of the ELR Mix-Along! This month, we are continuing our deep dive into the Stone Series.
The mission is simple: Master the Watermelon.
Watermelon can be a tricky profile—sometimes it’s too candy-like, other times it fades too fast. This month, we’re working together to build better foundations and finished profiles.
Your Mission (Mixer’s Choice):
The Stone: Create a “Watermelon Base” (2-4 flavors) designed to be used as a standalone building block for future recipes.
The Masterpiece: Create a finished Watermelon recipe.
Focus Points:
Realism vs. Candy: Are you going for a juicy Wedge or a Sour Patch vibe?
Texture: How are you adding “wetness” or that grainy melon mouthfeel?
Sustainability: Watermelon often fades; what are you using to make it stick?
New mixers are especially encouraged to jump in — this is a great month to learn the basics of building a fruit base and get comfortable sharing your work. Prize will be random so there’s no pressure / this is not a competition.
As always, feel free to ask questions, compare approaches, or riff on each other’s ideas. The Mix‑Along is about learning, experimenting, and just having fun.

Here’s my entry. Gooey marshmallow provides the sweetness and ties things together. Yellow watermelon shining through at 6.5% Yellow passion vta at 2.25 providing complementary vibes. Ws23 as needed. No sweetners. Fa’s vanilla cookie at 5% for solid base that’s still light enough for S&V.
Please don’t enter me in mix along.
I mixed 4 recipes yesterday and this one I like the most.
Good thing about melon recipes is there ok after 24 hours, but best left 3 - 5 days.
Hello everyone! I have created a base and a recipe as an idea for it.
The base = (70-30) Double Watermelon (SA) 1.5 Bubble Gum (LA) .78 Dragon Fruit (CV).47 Lime Flavor (Cap) .16 (all grams)
I have created a base (actually two) one is Jolly watermelon for a more syrupy fruit emulsifier to make the final recipe stick Whatever one wants that recipe to be) The other bas I am of not submitting per the rules but it is the “Garden” Watermelon direction. Anyway, for the purpose of this event I have included a unique recipe also as an example and to submit.
So, I am submitting 1 base given in these notes and I’ll post as well, and one recipe to go with the base as an idea.
For the VG-based nicotine, I have used a slightly lower density of 1.24g/ml to account for the nicotine content within the VG.
As for the entry I have created a strawberry watermelon Cheesecake like red fruit by splitting the fruit layer. This will contrast the candy angle of the base with a more natural authentic garden flavor. I though of the “wetness” early on with bubble gum and a hint of lime bring our the flavors as the steeping is done. This recipe requires a 10-14 day steep though; that is, for ideal results.
I look forward to trying other folks ideas on this! As always stop by my recipes and check them out, try some, etc. I am getting a little better! Thanks for having me here, great website and it is appreciated.
I want to note that it wouldn’t allow me to tag “use with a base” on the recipe as it kept kicking me back wanting the details normally that would disappear upon clicking that part. (I never had before).
I am trolling and looking for a juicy wedge! I’ve been wanting a straight watermelon for years! My last attempt tasted like honeydew but who’s complaining?
I’ll be trolling as well. @muth
I have no watermelon flavors. Five years ago I tried to make it. Everything I tried tasted like honeydew. I asked on DIY, Mixin Vixens & Developed what to buy that only tasted like watermelon, but never got a complete answer. Seems that all watermelon flavors contain whatever it is that tastes like honeydew. So I threw all my flavors out and stopped wasting money searching for a true straight-up watermelon.
Good luck to all who enter this month!
Well, I COMPLETELY missed the Cheesecake Mix-A-Long, as I was just too busy. A lot of the submissions looked great, and I saved a couple. Well, I didn’t want to miss TWO in a ROW !!!
One of the realistic watermelons I’ve found was by VSO. That with FA Red Summer was pretty realistic but the rest of the flavors I had to add bent it towards a honeydew. It was the cucumber I added with a bit of pear from Quince Jelly (WF) that did it but it was a damn tasty juice, regardless.
ETA: Have you ever mixed HIC’s Sweet Watermelon Juice? I don’t want to post it here and derail the thread but I can DM you, if you like.
What’s up Session Drummer! (I should follow you but instead call myself- Out of Work Guitarist/Pianist!)
Luckily data science is en’ vogue at the moment lol You mentioned the Cheesecake you had forgotten about. Well I thought of it for this entry because NY Cheesecake (Pur) is like my go to behind strawberries and cream. I knew I had lime and that I had bubblegum and I thought it would “wet” the dry layers of the cheesecake enough to bring about slowing down the over powering but short term double watermelon which is all I have on that. This is what gave me the idea for the base actually. Good to hear from everyone! Take care session drummer!
Hey that ripe Hami Melon sounds like it would pair very nicely with ripe pear and watermelon red summer brings the juicy wetness in a little longer am I close? I’ll have to try that sir. Your recipe looks great just wanted to let ya know…
