That’s what it is

The great freezer debate, indeed

Only time and many reports of good or bad nic base will ever answer the question definitively, of course: certainly a few doods shoving some bottles in a freezer and some out isn’t - to my mind - anywhere near proof of anything, much.

Well not exactly; it proves it is better to cold-store nic base, but there’s nobody who’s ever bothered to answer that question of “How MUCH better” which is arguably more important anyway - if 5 years in a cupboard only slightly affects the taste and nic content only drops 5% in that time, then freezers and argon and all the rest is just overkill.

No it’s not the great debate …Its the doubt of our Possum …9.8 out of 10 mixers and suppliers all agree :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Yeah but they’d agree with fkn anything just to be diplomatic and agreeable

They should question things, just out of general curiosity!

Night.

I don’t - it’s only 4:47PM :smirk:

I’ll eat something though.

The next great question is, have I bought enough Nic? I have the option to buy more now before the mail ban, but the cost has doubled. Based on the Vapocalypse calculator I’m not gonna have enough Nic to last even 5 years. Will there be some kind of workaround within that time, or should I bite the bullet and spend money I can ill afford?

@FL_Vaper if that’s all you got then that should be fine.

And being in the freezer alone will provide a major improvement in longevity in and of itself.

However, I would suggest putting it either along one of the side walls (nearest the front) and not on the back wall.
The reason being is that the vast majority of freezers in everyone’s homes are “frost-free”. Which means that they have a heating element built in, that occasionally activates to remove frost that’s built up from opening the door. That heat should be avoided in order to minimize any affect on your stored nic.
The other place I would recommend is in the freezer door, closest to the hinge where the door attaches to the fridge.

The inside side wall is better for situations where you have members of the house who like to stand there with the damned door open going “duuuuuuh…what do I want to eat”.
The inside door is better for instances of where there’s only one (or two) in the household, and you know what’s in the freezer, and you’re only opening it long enough to grab what you want and close the door.

All of the above is recommended based on my personal experience over the past five years. Not what I’ve heard.
I’m still using nic that’s 4+ years old at this point, and it’s every bit as good as when I put it away 4 years ago.

Argon etc is overkill IMO. But, if you’re going to try and hoard away for the next 8-10+ years, then I think that few extra dollars and a couple of extra steps (in the initial storing process) are smart insurance. But it’s not something I feel the average user needs to worry about (with the idea of tapering down on nic dependance as you go).

The sides vs the back wall make sense if there is a heating element there. I’d read not to put Argon-topped Nic in the doors (maybe here?). No matter, thanks to my puny freezer, the door isn’t even an option. The next challenge is telling my friend just how much of his freezer I’m going to be taking up until politicians see reason/pigs fly.

I started DIY 1 1/2 years ago and found recipes on E-liquid recipes that were similar in profile to what I bought online. Went to River Supply and ordered all the flavors etc that I needed. In the end I have 26 out of about 35 recipes that I like. Are they the same as what I bought online -NO but I still like them. If you ever smoked a particular cigarette brand and then switched due to whatever, you know that eventually you became used to the new brand. Same with vaping. If you enjoy vaping the time is spent making a whole bunch of 10ml bottles, steeping and then vaping them to experiment with. After that you need to get organized and rotate you top ejuice recipes. Don’t know why some people refuse to experiment but you also see those types when it comes to food. Experiment and expand your horizons. It pays in the end.

That is a major problem right there! I’ve at least got my flavor stash (or most of it) in a Google Doc, which is more than I managed when I attempted DIY a couple of years ago. I’m still trying to figure out a workspace as well as where to store everything. Right now I’ve got concentrates in one place, PG/VG in another, and bottles somewhere else. Living in a small apartment stinks. :frowning:

Keep at it because it will take a long time to get everything the way you want it with changes along the way when you find a better way to organize everything both physically and replacement lists due to everything having a shelf life as well. I use excel spreadsheets (WPS Office) to keep all the physical flavors organized to each recipe and the amounts needed for each. Not sure you will get the attachment but if you do it’s one of the spreadsheets I use to track each flavor to each recipe for ordering ingredients again when they are old or I run out. Its just an example to give you an idea but I hope it helps.

(Attachment C All Activly Used Flavors - Master.xlsx is missing)

No, the attachment didn’t come through. You’re obviously more organized than me. It never occurred to me to track the volumes of each flavor. I thought the tools on ELR took care of that.

You’re going to have to Google Drive it, or Dropbox it, etc… And then leave a link.

The forum won’t host the file type.

ELR won’t track flavor usage. At least, not actively/automatically.
It currently relies on the user to remember to deduct the numbers each time they mix.

Yeah I was sent an email from forum saying picture formats are the only attachments allowed. That is unfortunate because it would save you a lot of work to have other ideas presented for organizing. The reason you want to track each flavor used for each recipe is due to the same flavors being used in different recipes so how do you order the right amounts of each flavor to make the volumes you want of each recipe over a period of time? I personally don’t want to dick around with piece meal ordering on a as needed basis and plus you get free shipping when you order all at once due to the large combined quantities.I never did the Drive or dropbox sharing before so if I get some time later today I will look into it.

That’s good to know in advance! Glad that was brought up sooner than later.

Here is the link for a couple of the spread sheets I use, there are many others but this is just for keeping track of the flavors used in recipes broken down by how I use them. First three sheets have the recipes listed at bottom.

I was able to find something in the first months here. I looked at the easy peasy 3 flavor thread and picked out something to my liking. Would something with a spice in it help your buds? I found this and it was flavorful for me. It’s a recipe by Ken O Where:

What’s your flavor profiles? Do you like fruits, desserts, tobaccos?
