Purilum Boysenberry Preserves

I have a deep freezer for my nic, thanks to yours and other’s recommendation. I pull out 1 bottle at a time and keep that 1 in the fridge. I keep my flavor room dark and cool. A lot of my flavors are just sitting on the shelves untouched until I see it called for in a recipe. I need to purge a lot now that I know what my flavor profile is. When I first started mixing, it was my goal to acquire every single flavor, just like all the other noobs that went down that never ending rabbit hole, lol. I haven’t even opened the box from a certain flavor company that you sent me a long time ago…

When you guys are talking about freezing and storing Nicotine, what quantities we talking here?
Atm I’m buying a pack of 5x60ml plastic bottles which seems like it will last me 2/3 of a year or so. How would you store it? I’ve just got them all in a cool dark cupboard.
I feel like keeping them sealed, and only having them for less than a year, this is probably enough for me to not have to worry about degradation right? If I was to decant into glass bottles for freezing I’d be accelerating oxidation? Our laws are getting dumber and dumber here though so I’m getting tempted to stock up while I can still buy that much at a time.

no, the freeZer is the best place to store nicotine
use the search function there are many threads about nicotine storage

@RandomlyAssigned I can only speak for myself, and I sell a lot, so keep that in perspective. I would strongly recommend keeping all of your STORAGE NIC in the freezer, and in glass Exactly like @wllmc just said about flavor storage, Heat, LIght, and Oxygen (atmostphere) are the three killers here. Eliminate as MUCH as you can, if not all, to preserve your invesement. I have two medical freezers packed full of NIC @ -35F. All in glass, all zipped in in bags.

This may be overkill for you, but at room temp, the NIC will oxidize, turn darker, and start to taste worse, very quickly. You mentioned plastic bottles, which shold typically be avoided for NIC storage. PET (hard plastic) is far better than LDPE (soft squishy), but NIC should really be stored in glass, with quality conical sealed tops.

Another thing to keep in mind, is always ration out the majority of your NIC into STORAGE bottles. These should be capped, and left undisturbed in the freezer, as repeated thaw/freeze/thaw can impact the NIC. The I idea is, you have undisturbed STORAGE Bottles, but only one WORKING bottle. This means the majority of your stash, stays iced, undisturbed until you open the next bottle. The one you take in and out is your WORKING bottle. That way, only that one small bottle gets thawed/frozen, and exposed to light and heat, NOT your entire stash.

Not at all, by storing it correctly, you will greatly extend your NON-oxidized state of your NIC, keep it stronger, cleaner, clearer until you burn through it all.

VERY wise move, and that’s what a LOT of us did. You NEVER know, what will happen next, so stocking up, if you have the freezer space, and money, is never a bad idea. As your investment increases, you have more to loose by incorrect storage.

Let me know if you have any further questions, I’d be glad to assist, as when I first started out, I made ALL the mistakes you could hehe, but NOW, I have it down to a science.

Thanks for the help guys. I have read on the topic, but everyone always seems to be talking about buying large bulk amounts and decanting into smaller bottles. Not a handful of 60ml bottles.
Well I’ve got them in the fridge for now. Think I need to get some glass bottles.

Don’t worry about the quantity @RandomlyAssigned, it’s about the process, and protecting your NIC. Big/small doesn’t matter. NIC is a real investment lately, and keeping it fresh until you use it all, is never a bad idea.

That’s fair, @SessionDrummer! I guess I struggle to see the necessity of freezing five years’ worth of nicotine. Maybe it’s just for the cost savings? I always thought the ultimate goal of vaping was to eventually reduce or eliminate nicotine usage entirely. Since I’m down to 3mg, is a simple cool, dark cabinet really sufficient for storing a 120ml bottle, or am I missing something? I have to freeze this?

Nicsalts do not oxidize and retain there pH level when left out, unlike freebase which is volatile and needs to be stored in freezer. As a precaution I store both freebase and salts in freezer but decant some into a smaller container for use. Smaller container I keep in fridge. If you only use 3mg at a time your 120 mil bottle will last a considerable time, and as a precaution ide decant some and store rest in freezer.
Better safe than sorry.

Since I mix for both my wife and myself and sometimes another, a 60ml bottle usually lasts us about two months. I don’t mind reordering every couple of months, so I’m hoping that simply storing my nicotine in a cool, dark place is sufficient to keep it fresh for that timeframe. Not years… Should I still freeze, or no big deal?

If it’s freebase it needs to go in freezer, it doesn’t freeze solid and is still pourable. if salts you should be ok in fridge. Just put it in fridge door where the milk bottles go. Cold inhibits bacterial growth.
As I said better safe than sorry.

Hehe, well they SAY that’s the goal, but it doesn’t always seem to work LOL.

As far as the freezing, you know about it, so the choice is up to you. I don’t know your burn rate, or how long it will take you to use it all up, but I’ve seen NIC oxidize, turn brown, and start to smell/taste funky in 2 monhts. It depends on how hot it gets, and how much light and air it gets. The choice is yours. For the cost of a couple of glass bottles, and throwing them in the freezer, seems a small price to pay for clean, clear NIC till the end though …

That’s all I needed to know. I’ll keep my nicotine in the spare fridge I use for drinks.

I really appreciate the advice; it’s great to see how much more consistent things are now compared to 2018 when everything felt like a guessing game.

It definitely makes navigating the endless sea of 3,583,745,984,790 recipes much easier…

It can definitely be fatal. Actually I was researching liquid nicotine for a Western novel I’m writing. Liquid nicotine was a common way to purposely poison people in the 1800s. German chemists first isolated nicotine into a liquid in 1828.

In the late 1800s, chemists and botanists possessed liquid nicotine, but it was primarily used as a strong pesticide, insecticide, or a potent botanical poison, it also widely used as a botanical medicine.

I use a 250mg/ml nicotine in a VG base. I always wear gloves and probably should wear safety glasses.

Now that we know all about nicotine are we going to let this conversation revert back to PUR Boysenberry Preserves?

To be honest I think buying a bunch of Boysenberry Preserves (Purilum) would be a waste of money. It was discontinued for a reason. Use your alchemist skills and overcome it.
On Bull City Flavors alone there are much better options. Boysenberry (Flavorah), Boysenberry Raspberry (WF), Natural Blackberry Raspberry Acai (WF), Blackberry (Flavorah), Berry Jam (TPA), and the best preserves/jam flavor ever made: Maqui Wild Berry Jam (Cap).
A combination of Raspberry Syrup (SSA) a Blackberry (Flavorah) would produce a superior boysenberry preserves flavor.

Believe me, as a noob returning after many years, there are plenty of alternatives out there,we know. I’ve tried most of the ones you listed, and I’ve actually blacklisted—or bottom-tiered—a large portion of them. Not everyone has a “mixmaster’s” palate, and flavor preferences are incredibly subjective.
