Hey everyone, I’m the Old Goat, and if there’s one thing I believe in, it’s straight-up, no-BS vape reviews. Whether it’s tanks, RDAs, coils, or anything in between, I test it, push it to its limits, and tell it like it is.
I’ve gathered all my reviews in one place: OldGoatVape.co.za – a hub for honest insights, deep dives, and the kind of content that keeps the vape community informed.
If you enjoy my reviews and want to support the work I do, I’ve set up a Tip Jar on the site. Every little bit helps keep the Old Goat grinding (and caffeinated) so I can keep bringing you real, unbiased content.
:dashing_away: Check out my reviews & support the grind: OldGoatVape.co.za
I will also drop links to my work here on ELR.
Let me know what you think! Have I reviewed your favorite setup yet? If not, drop a comment and tell me what you want to see next!
I went full Old Goat mode on this one — a bit of nostalgia, a fair bit of ranting, and a big fat middle hoof to what disposables and TikTok trends have done to the scene.
What makes this post different? Nearly every name I shouted out in it is someone from this very forum. Y’all are the ones still keeping it real, still rebuilding, mixing, sharing knowledge and keeping the culture alive. You’ll probably recognize a few names in there — and if you don’t yet, you should.
Give it a read. Leave a comment if you’ve got bones to pick or stories to share. Or just come help me yell at clouds for a while.
I couldn’t agree more about the disposables. To me it was only a stepping stone to get back to a box mod, but people are buying piles of them. I never even liked juul cartridges, because I see them littered like cigarette butts. Disposables also have super high nicotine content, which defeats the whole purpose of switching to vaping and stepping down from the nicotine from cigarettes. All those batteries, no recycling system. All just plastic waste and pollution. Not even sure how it’s legal.
Hey man, really appreciate you taking the time to read the rant — glad it hit home!
You nailed it with the nicotine levels and the waste. It’s like we replaced one problem with another, just with more glitter and LEDs. The step-down part of vaping gets totally lost when everything’s designed to be disposable and addictive.
If you’ve got a sec, I’d love it if you dropped your comment on the blog itself too — trying to get more real voices like yours over there. Helps keep the conversation going outside the echo chamber.
I was actually given a free box of disposables after I’d successfully switched to my box mod. This is partly due to the shitty restaurant job I had at the time too… But after the disposables were gone I relapsed back to cigarettes because I wasn’t getting the immediate satisfaction with my 3mg sub ohm vape. I got frustrated with leaks as well. I didn’t buy more disposables because they’re friggin expensive, and I could have totally went and got stronger juice, but I just needed that quick nicotine hit. I went back to smoking for a few months before I quit again. That last quit was it though. I love my vape and mixing delicious e juice.
I’ve actually cycled around quitting a few times, but mainly relapsed to cigs because of life circumstances. I’d actually at one point very successfully quit cigarettes and vaping. Started going out and experiencing night life and drinking for the first time in my mid 20s and started smoking cigarettes again. I don’t want to quit vaping anytime soon though. I love it. I still enjoy the novelty of the big vapor clouds, this is also a great, supportive online community.
You have a beautiful blog! Well done OG. I’ll get to your reviews as time permits but I read your latest, the rant about our current situation. Yes, yes and hell no! Yes, I miss the homegrown community. Yes, I agree we need to engage new vapers and hell no to the disposable industry and all it stands for.
How did we get there? We didn’t. The tobacco industry did when they moved in on our good thing. I saw it coming…can’t beat 'em, join 'em. And that they did by using the same tactics that most money grubbing companies do. Make a shiny new, colorful product that anyone can use. In retrospect, maybe we should have pushed back hard and educated the masses about DIY and its superiority over plastic poison “pens” that end up in landfills. I believe it’s never too late for anything and that we owe it to anyone who wants to quit smoking, to do it the healthy way. I should say, the elegant way
Thank you for putting out the word on your blog. They say that everything runs in cycles so maybe people will grow weary of all the plastic garbage and start coming around to the real deal. But we’ll have to present the real deal constantly on social media to keep exposing them to the “good stuff”
Ever wondered why “Blue Razz” tastes more like a colour than a fruit?
Let’s face it—flavour concentrates are a wild ride. From candy-coated fruits that don’t exist in nature to the strange magic that makes something “taste pink”… it’s not just mixing juice—it’s mixing illusions .
I’m no chemist, but I’ve spent enough time in the lab (and by lab, I mean my cluttered vape desk) to start asking questions. Like:
Why do artificial flavours never quite match the real thing?
What’s the deal with flavour perception and colour?
And seriously, who invented Blue Raspberry?
I unpack it all in the latest blog: The Alchemist’s Corner – Decoding the Delicious Deception of Flavour Concentrates
Grab a coffee, bring your brain, and prepare to see your favourite flavours in a whole new light.
