Anyone made anything close to The Rochford Project’s Black Vine? its a gorgeous mix of blackcurrant, grape and mixed berries. Taste wise there is a creamy note to it that pulls these flavours together and there might be a bit of an apple in there and is so moreish. If I could make anything even close to this I would over the moon. There is probably other flavours in there conspiring to make this ridiculously tasty juice but I lack the palette to pick them out… anyone?
I havent tried rochforf project but if you like blackcurrant/berry flavours you could try this -
This is a fantastic recipe, one of my favourite mixes.
Its very flavourful, nice & juicy/saturated, full bodied vape, very “commercial like” recipe. I cant get enough of this stuff i have been vaping thus since last year every day & its still not boring me, its in my squonk now as im typing this, lol. Definitely one worth trying if you like this kind of profile (dark berry type flavours) & i would bet that you could use these ingredients & maybe tweak it some/add in any missing notes/swap out 1/2 flavours & make your own clone of the RP eliquid you like? If its blackcurrant & dark berrys i would guess they have used INW & FS blackcurrantS + FLV boysenberry? These are the way to go for a blackcurrant/berry mix, then maybe INW grapes + FA fuji apple, maybe a touch of FA pear for some added juicyness? It definitely sounds interesting & if they werent so expensive i would buy it & take a stab at cloning it, sounds right up my alley.

Unfortunately because the Rockford Project isn’t available in the US I’ve never been able to try any of their e-liquids. I have done blind remix of at least one of their e-liquids Notus Eurus, but without actually trying Black Vine there isn’t much to go by.
Wow, that sounds amazing!
Huzzah! That sounds exactly like hawk sauce without the menthol. Probably replace menthol/ice and sour stuff with your favorite vanilla/cream base.

Let’s see what their juice label says:
The Black Vine
Blackcurrant, Grape & mixed fruits
A complex mixture of blackcurrant and grape with a unique blend of mixed fruits.
Ahh, that’s helpful and not vague at all. /S
or something like this.
Black Vine–Inspired
Profile: Blackcurrant, grape, mixed berries, slight cream body, hint of apple brightness.
VG/PG: 70/30
| Ingredient | % | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Blackcurrant (FA or CAP) | 2.5% | Deep tart body, the soul of the mix |
| Grape (TPA or INW) | 2.0% | Sweet grape syrup tone, rounds the blackcurrant |
| Blackberry (FW) | 1.5% | Dark berry depth; carries the sweet-tart line |
| Raspberry (FW) | 1.5% | Bright berry top-note, mimics mixed berries |
| Apple (Double Apple TPA or Fuji FA) | 0.5% | Crispness to lift the fruits |
| Vanilla Swirl (TPA) | 1.0% | Subtle creaminess without dairy heaviness |
| Marshmallow (optional, TPA) | 0.5% | Softens edges and adds a silky body |
| Koolada 10% (TPA) | 0.2% | Barely perceptible chill, just a breath of coolness |
The Grape, I’ve gotten alot of good use out of Grape Juice TPA as well, so that could be a grape contender.
and hey! welcome to the community!
Welcome and glad you joined.
Wow, they sound like great suggestions, gives me something to go on and try. Thanks everyone, and thank you for the welcome, this will be my first foray into mixing my own e-juice. I started vaping around ten months ago, in that time I have come from pods to stock sub ohm tanks and finally to RTA’s, RDA’s and RBA’s. I have mastered making my own coils, starting with aliens and then to Fraliens, I even built my own coil making apparatus! (This new obsession is driving the Mrs insane! lol) Juice making seems like the next logical step and saving money by mixing my own is definitely on the agenda. I have already been saving money by making my own coils and buying and adding my own 72mg Nic to my juices and it’s great to be able to customise the strength of my nic which I have settled on 4mg.
Black vine is my favourite juice and would love to make bigger batches of something similar, I understand the creator of this juice has spent years perfecting his juices so I don’t expect to recreate this on a first try but I am hopeful of something close, even if it’s a little different but just as moreish and enjoyable that would be a win for me, just want my own ADV! Thanks everyone.
Thank you so much, this sounds like it would be something close. Everything except koolada, doesn’t seem like there is even a hint of that in there. The grape in it does seem like it would be a grape juice flavouring so I’ll use that me thinks. When I’ve sourced the ingredients, mixed, steeped and vaped it I’ll be sure to stop by with my verdict. Thank again.
Here’s a blind remix of the Black Vine going by the review of Vaping with Vic using all Capella. More of a natural black currant/blackberry with Concord grape (stevia), mixed berries and sweet cream. A fairly simple recipe but seems to cover the bases.
The profiles of the Rockford Project seem fairly straight forward this one fits the description perfectly and after about a week the espresso settles down and blends nicely into the vanilla creams while allowing the caramel to settle in the front.
Dang, it’s interesting you mention pear because there may well be something like that in there, I only say that because of an apple and pear juice I used to vape and I feel it has that going on somewhere in the background, if it is in there it’s definitely only a hint, it’s definitely more complex than just a few flavours thats for sure.
FA pear is a fantastic flavour, probably one of my most used actually.
But if you do like that dark berry type profile i highly recommend trying the recipe i posted, i think this may get you close judging by the sounds of the descriptions on RP black vine i have read, i would say try that, then make some adjustments as you see fit, but i think all you would really need to do to get close is -
Swap the lemon gummy + strawberry gummy for maybe 1% FA fuji + 1% FA pear? Then add in INW grapes at around 2% to start with, you can adjust % after if when you try it something doesnt quite stand out as much as needed? I think this would get you extremely close, you could also take out the blackcurrant gummy & increase FA blackcurrant to 1.5%, maybe add 0.5% INW raspberry for some extra berry top notes
But i think you would really like the original recipe i posted as it is though, its really good, lile mouthwatering & very moreish, it vapes just like a commercial juice. Dont let the ws23 deter you it doesnt “ice” the recipe it just lifts the whole thing giving it some added juicyness & vibrancy, very flavoirful recipe.

Thank you so much for the advice, think I know what direction I’m going to take this now based on what you and DarkJester89 have said and from the reviews I have watched, but also my own experience with it. Have ordered a bunch of ingredients and necessary items, I have a feeling there are some other back notes that are present that some reviewers think they can detect but I am not going to include initially, going to see where I am at with my initial mix for me to better tell what might be missing. That being said if I’m happy with it then I might stop there, but knowing me I’ll want to keep striving and tweaking.
One thing is for sure is that this juice is one of those complex juice’s that has been masterfully blended and is not like 90% of the crap that’s out there, and I must remember that I need to learn to walk before I can run!
I will be sure to share my recipe if I think it’s decent. I will have to experiment with ws23 in low concentrations, certainly makes sense with what you’re saying and I doubt I would be able to tell if the actual product had any in it to begin with unless I had tasted it without it, if indeed it did have some in it. It’s incredible how these ingredients all conspire together, especially in the low concentrations they exist in but none the less are necessary.
I can see that with the flavourings suggested it seems that no one company has all the best flavourings, like for instance I’d be better off using one company for blackcurrant but another for blackberry, seems like a mine field but then I guess that’s the benefit of being part of a forum with experienced folks. Thanks again for your help.
So, I was losing some sleep over this last night (I know, I know, obsessed much!!), but I was going back to the various reviews and milling around the internet at various things about the juice and some commented about there being some citrus and tropical notes way in the background and the various descriptions around the internet listing background notes of tropical fruits from around the world. As I smell and taste this juice I can definitely pick something up, especially now I’m looking for it! To address this I have added 0.50% of Tropyc (FA) which is tropical citrus with a touch of mango, I think this will be perfect, don’t know how strong it is so hopefully 0.5% will be ok.
There is a silky smoothness running right through this juice and I don’t think it’s coming solely from the creams, but rather the complex layering of the fruits, to add a further layer of complexity I have added pear to the mix which I think will work in concert with the apple and the other fruits to give it that smoothie-ness and juicy creaminess. I have also added a sweet cream and cream fresh to further pad out the cream. I also decided to swap in a grape juice by (WF), going by reviews and what people have said about this flavour and it’s resemblance to welch’s grape juice, I think it’s exactly what I need. I have adjusted the concentration to the apple and pear to bring about some extra prominence. I happened to find out that sweetener is added to the juices so I added super sweet in at 0.2%.
I’m guessing many people trying this recipe will probably use the non-DX versions of a few listed, It’s personal preference I guess, I have already read the various points of contention around these versions, though with me being in the UK I should already be used to DAAP free flavours. Time will tell if I made the right decisions for the first mix. I have listed it below but I won’t un-private it until I have tried it and decided whether I think it’s good enough. Please give opinions on the choices and concentrations.
So the first attempt is a little meh! obviously I haven’t steeped it yet but I wanted to taste it as a baseline but the grape I used seems like the wrong one to me and seems to be overtaking everything, think I might try a TPA or INW one instead as per the original advice ![]()
When I opened and smelled the Blackcurrant by FA it already smelled like Black Vine, interestingly when I knuckled tested the blackcurrant CAP that I’ve got it had that earthy berry taste that the FA did not, which I think is also in Black Vine. My thoughts are that Black Vine has a few Blackcurrant flavourings in it and I think you were onto something @RicklePick-Eddie1z with you earlier comment, not getting much of the Blackcurrant when smelling my mix and not sure if it’s because it needs steeping or whether the percentage has to go up and/or it’s needs more than one Blackcurrant…In any case I have ordered INW Blackcurrant, INW Grapes and Boysenberry FLV, Really need to develop the Blackcurrant and Grape side of things. It’s makes a comment DIY or Die said in one of his video’s make much more sense in that you have to decide on the flavour you want and go about finding the best of that flavour and then build around that. The one thing I can say is that the smoothness seems to be there and sweetness is there, for now! I’ll see what a 2 week steep will do.
Well, after the first disaster, learning from it, lots of taste testing, lost sleep and lots of lots of thinking later, I’ve come up with this, first impressions are it certainly smells a hell of a lot like black vine! Just got to wait for steep now. I’ve made some drastic changes, I learnt that grape can be powerful so I scaled that back and chose a different one, when I felt I got the right blackcurrant combination I moved on to the tropical section. I also felt the original has a slight drinkable yogurt like consistency to it. Also trying to add Tropyc FA in the last one for tropical citrus was a real bodge and an absolute no no. When selecting flavours I started noticing a pattern and I’m going on the working assumption that the original used mainly FA and Cap flavours, which makes sense from a manufacturing perspective as it’s better to stick to fewer companies and ones that have a well established and reliable distribution network. We’ll see! Time will tell if I’m talking completely out of my arse!!
not saying it won’t be great you may even like it better than black vine
just saying if your tryincg to clone a mass produced e-liquid they are often not many flavors in a recipe
say 4 - 6 flavors but they may use proprietary custom flavors not sold to the public which makes it impossible to clone 1 to 1
I highly recommend you try capella blackberry though.
You’re more than likely right, and the propriety thing is also possible, at the same time this liquid is a real artisan complex liquid not sold in shops, and I wouldn’t put it past it’s creator to have engineered this with a lot of complexity because he’s somewhat known for that. Everyone of his liquids are like that. The complexity is unavoidable because this juice is described as a blackcurrant, grape and mixed fruits from around the world liquid. There’s apple in there and a tropical mix. Need to try Blackberry CAP, the only one i didn’t have! Doh!
INW blackcurrant + FA blackcurrant are amazing together, FLV boysenberry really helps to both boost & round out the blackcurrants. If i had to take a rough (educated) guess at %'s i would say start with 2.5% INW + 1.5% FA + 2.5% FLV boysenberry, this should be plenty enough blackcurrant forward flavour to get you going, tweak as necessary, but like you said its easier to build around a flavour, in this case 3 flavours. What im saying is to mess around with these 3 flavours & get the blackcurrant’y notes right first, tweak the %'s as you see fit, then once you’re happy with that part, then add in the grapes or whatever accents/nuances are the second most important to you & so on, until you have your clone or better still “remix”.

You see I messed around with the INW blackcurrant and although I really like it and will definitely use it in something, more than likely your recipe, it just didn’t seem like it was the same one used in this juice. The INW seem to have a ribena/cordial like quality to it and I don’t think it’s the one. If this doesn’t work out I will as you said start an even more focused approached, and just work on the individual groups of flavours. From what you and others have said, and DIYorDIE did a video series on cloning, I know that’s the way you’re supposed to do it. I’m just enjoying giving it ago and trying to use my intuitions and getting schooled along the way.
