The Rochford Project Black Vine clone?

See what i mean about thinking “jackfruit” though? When you smell the concentrate its a lot more noticeable too. But i do think it could also just be coming from the dragonfruit being boosted & slightly altered by the addition of grape, fuji & cactus?
Either way i think its very close & it will give anyone that hasnt tried rochford projects black vine a good idea on what it taste like.
I think its just a case of dialing in the %'s just a little more tbh? But i cant really do that until i get inw dragonfruit, purilums “DF” is working really well though but i do think inw will work better judging by notes/reviews & what you & nilbur are saying?
@speedeevape have you tried the latest variation yet?

I cant wait to get the inw dragonfruit now, lol.

Yes, ide like his opinion on it also. It’s Damn good :+1:
I understand fully why you thought “jackfruit”.
You wrote on another thread it’s like starting as a newbie when making a new juice. Well I’ve learnt a lot from doing this and enjoyed it.

Thats brilliant👌, i enjoy doing things like this too & have also learnt a lot (especially about dragonfruits)
It is indeed like starting a fresh, the way i mix it is anyway, lol, i usually start with 1 single flavour (unless i know a specific combo that works) & build on it a bit at a time, that way i know what/if anythings causing any problems straight away & can correct it easy, i never had much luck theory crafting recipes then just mixing it up personally.
But i have enjoyed this little project too its been fun.

Just put it together, getting a lot of aloe off the knuckle, but I will see how it settles. Too many life matters keep taking my attention at the moment and it’s driving me insane, sorry if I’m slow to try these things out, keep being whipped for one thing and another lol

No worries theres no pressure, just mix them & give feedback as & when you can.

had a go at the recipe, nothing wrong with it per se, but for me that cactus, yeah…cactus…cactus, cactus, cactus! lol not a fan of that flavour, the aloe is weird to me. I think it’s doing what it does best in being like a wetting/juicy agent, but has that baggage. I find black vine is actually kind of dry to me, don’t know if you have found that? not in a bad way though. Think it’s that powdery sugar thing on the exhale that does it.

It is however interesting to me how it covers that grape, even at 1.5%, You see, I was once not convinced that CAP Concord was the correct grape because of that unatural candy note I get from it, just reminds of the grape layer you get in a gobstopper/jawbreaker, I think the stevia in that flavour makes it quite nice though. I thought I had gotten a more natural grape out of mixing .5% FA Concord Grape and 1% FA White Grape, HIC’s notes for Both flavours had sounded convincing aswell, though the FA concord does need a short steep for that soapy note to disappear. The problem that I had is that I didn’t know whether it was right or whether so much of what I was doing around it was wrong, but it never presented as unatural to me, so I had stuck with it but couldn’t crack the code either way. It does seem that CAP Concord, depending on what it’s paired with could work better. Do you think that CAP’s grape is the correct grape? is that what you’re tasting in the og?

It was hard for me to know whether jay had used any less than natural tasting flavours and just managed those undesirable notes with other flavours or whether he approached it in a purest kind of way and just selected natural tasting flavours. I’m guessing he used either and just didn’t stop until he got the result he wanted, could have made it easier though couldn’t he? I mean how rude! lol

As for the tropical note, the strange thing about the og, is the tropical funk seems so familiar, like i have tasted it before, but I just can’t place it, much less how it was achieved. I was hoping that when I bought and smelled all sorts of flavours that I would smell the tip of one and be like ahhh! but it ain’t that simple is it? you sort of realise that you have to mix together flavours to bend and shape it, and things don’t always steep as you smell or knuckle test them.

Yeah, I’m not putting Cactus in mine. Maybe .2 could be ok but I have no want to do so.

Interesting about the slightly dry part. Mine isn’t at all to me. I could see a natural grape doing that. I never really felt compelled to mess with the FA grapes to know if that could be a possibility.

You can bend some in a recipe to get an overall natural result but most everything used in the base is natural leaning. But one thing I have learned is the Cactus alone will drastically change the recipe. Just adding .25% FA DF does between my last 2 mixes.

It is something thats eirely familiar, smelling the concentrate my brain instantly told me tfa jackfruit, but djs testing that he said it didnt quite match.
I have a few flavours in my cart to try for my next order all the dragonfruits, jackfruit, mangosteen & even some other “custard apples” that were available at the time of release, things like guanabana, soursops etc just to test/rule out.

That funk you’re talking about, from my memory the closest thing that i think it smells like is FLV golden kiwi, but i know its not that because FLV didnt launch that till 2020/21’ish, it has got that same “funk” as flv golden kiwi, infact thinking about it im sure i have tasted that same funk from a couple of FLV flavours? I wonder if FLV dragonfruit would fit?, another one to add to the cart after i write this, lol.

& other than this final tropical piece i think the rest of the recipe is spot on, ingredient wise anyway, i know the %'s of the rest do need polishing up just a little more but without that final piece it would be a wasted effort trying to balance the rest of the recipe because as soon as i introduce that last tropical section its going to skew the balance again & need further tweaking, so until i find that last piece i think the rest of the recipe is ok where its at for the time being.

I am also getting that same powdered texture right on the finish in most of my variations even with the cactus, infact with the cactus at 0.5% & purilum dragonfruit at 3.5% its pretty damn close to the original, like really close, its just lacking some of that brightness from the “tropicals” in the original & that “golden kiwi funk”, but its definitely close. That powder texture is mostly coming from tfa vanilla swirl, but fa forest fruit can also give off “jawbreaker” vibes when pushed enough, & the maltol in tfa sweetener will also enhance this.

& im not gonna stop working on it until we get a version thats spot on or at least one you’re happy with, dont worry we will get you there eventually, lol.

You mentioned “guanabana” which I have and haven’t used yet. It really reminds me of the missing tropical. Going to do a mix with it included and see how it reacts to the other flavours. Have to do a few things first but be back soon.

The “Guanabana” gives it a brightness and a slight banana like smoothness. If I taste it straight from bottle it has that almost herbal note that I was trying to explain. I added 1%… Because the other flavours are so close to the OG it makes it harder to tell 100%, but I don’t think it’s the elusive piece we’re missing.
I’ll let it sit for the rest of the day and retaste this evening, I’ll have a fresh pallet.
When we find the missing piece we should go “yes that’s it , straight away”, after tasting it.
Tastes really nice with included though.
That 20% recipe you did including (cap) “BC” I think would be about the same flavour intensity as the OG. So basically we need to increase the overall flavour to match og.
I have to go out at 13.00 visiting for the rest of the day but you can guarantee I’ll be distracted thinking about this. It’s so close.

Yes, I have experienced that. I think it was enough for me to move on thinking it wasn’t the one, and this is one of many mistakes I have made. I think what you have a sucessfully shown me is that balancing and managing flavour notes is key.

Well, just as long as your having fun with it, which I know you are, that’s the main thing. Until of course it turns into a bind and frustration to the point it becomes unenjoyable, which it did to me to be honest and the interevention couldn’t of come sooner because it was obvious I was well off and I would of continued to jam these flavours together, creating endless amounts of crap! lol

PUR dragonfruit is one I thought I had, but I don’t. might have to get some.

Yeah, I guess it doesn’t mean it isn’t in there, but at .5% I am definitley detecting that aloe note. It almost does seem like it could be in at a low percentage idk. It is seeming like it’s not just one flavour responsible, but rather a flavour accord, a string of flavours conspiring to create that exotic note, but I guess that remains to be determined. We got good people working on it though. :ok_hand::+1:

Definitely, i love doing things like this though i dont think it will ever be unenjoyable to me tbh? the more elusive that flavour becomes the more aggressively i will chase it, it wouldnt be the first time.
There are a couple more remixes of commercial liquids im working on ATM that have taken a back seat for now but these are also extremely close, having something new/fresh to work on recently though has been a breath of fresh air.

Have any of you guys got CAP Cantaloupe? If so, could you tell me if you think that is something that could be in this? the only thing I explored a while back was melons, because of what vaping with vic had said in his review, I had bought various cantaloupe, honeydew and watermelon flavours and CAP Cantaloupe was the only thing that made me think it could have a good chance.

You did an excellent job with “monkey brek” I’ve tried it with “legendary” and “smooth custard” and I like it with “smooth” better.
Peoples tastes are very subjective but Vic the vaper could taste some sort of melon in the I think not steeped e liquid. My first taste unsteeped I’m sure I could taste maybe peach. Thinking about it’s only because of the smoothness and it’s not actually in there.
The “Guanabana” fits in so well but don’t think it’s the missing flavour… when its included there’s still that flavour alongside the “Df” that we can’t place. And you right it’s familiar. We will get there.

Just thought I’d mention it because of what Eddie1z was saying about jackfruit and read in the notes about it’s meloney connection.

It’s a very complex flavour profile. I’ve been watching u tube reviews. Some people haven’t a clue and say “blackcurrant” with “grape” with berries in the background. The "grape’s really not that prominent. Someone else said"apricot " I’ve tried it with a couple of drops and it definitely isn’t. There’s a lot going on when you taste it . It’s a hard one to clone. You’ve been a lot more of a help than a lot of the reviews.
I’ve just read the flavour notes on "cantaloupe " and it shares similarities with"jackfruit " so thank you.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who thought some of these reviews were questionable, it’s almost like they had the idea planted from the description on the bottle…“A complex mixture of blackcurrant and grape with a unique blend of mixed fruits.” and felt like they had to describe it in that order. I personally struggle to taste an obvious grape, If I had to describe it I’d say a non-descript grape like dark fruit with a twang and cream lol and all I know it’s rediculously yummy.

Thank you, i try :+1: Yeah, thought it may of been worth the mention, who knows.

Iv added the cap canteloupe to my cart, any more anyone can throw into the list ill try them all if i can get them, lol. Theres a few i have in my cart & possibly more ill add too. I really think daniel the vape man would have been the best person to identify this flavour, shame hes in the us or id have sent him some straight away i just know he would pick this out instantly, these types of flavour are his speciality. Hope hes ok though, havent heard from him & lynda in a while.
We will get it though im fairly confident.
