What are you watching? 2022/23

No, not yet. Life of Christ, right? Although, I’m not a believer, I do find the stories fascinating. Worth watching?

After @fidalgo_vapes and @Lostmarbles recommended The Chosen, I sat down to watch the first episode.

Generally it was very good. Obviously it is taking a fair few liberties with the Gospels in order set up future narratives: No record has Nicodemus being present on the dates depicted. Also, his use of the power of names (one of the oldest forms of personified invocation) did oddly fit: As the Book of Enoch was in wide circulation at the time - Most also assume that Jesus the Nazarene was familiar with it too.

Enoch 1 is generally regarded as a key text in 1stC developments in demonology and angelology and many links to it are found in the Gospels.

I’ll watch two more episodes to give it a fair airing, and then decide if I’ll watch all.

I’m really hoping that the next two episodes include Jesus’ sense of humour, as he was very sarcastic at times and loved a good pun - There are a few examples in the Bible.

A post was merged into an existing topic: For those who want to talk ! (Politics)

If I remember correctly I was not impressed.

It was OK @Stankhammer. I think the concept was better than some of the dialogue, and pacing. I’d give it a 6.5/10 maybe. CG and effects were good, just some of the aforementioned would have improved it.

Well, I was going to watch Don’t Fuck in the Woods 2 tonight but @SessionDrummer inspired me to revisit another classic:

Oddly one I’ve missed in the years between peak blacksploitation (from Sharft, Blackula etc) and the moralism of Tales From the Hood in the 90s.

I forgot to mention the utter work of glorious genius which is Black Dynamite:

I think January may become a blacksploitation month, followed with a Russ Meyers focused sexploitation month in February.
