I’ve just watched episode two of The Chosen. Again I enjoyed it, obviously none of it was canon, but one wink from Jesus made me think that he’s got one of his gospel puns in mind: The sons of thunder.
So far, I haven’t seen any attempts to force a specific theology on anyone but instead it lets people find a meaning. So, definitely gets a favourable eye from me.
I must admit that I’d like to see a Honi HaMe’agel (He was the Jewish version of Diogenes the Cynic, though he decided that clothes may be a good idea) reference to show the background of many ‘false Messiahs’ at the time. But, this is shaping into a decent series and reflection of that intriguing Nazarene.
I will watch episode 3 during tomorrow’s evening painting time.
As I’m continuing my month of minor Blacksploitation, I thought I’d watch one with the lady who made Snoop Dogg blush:
Movie titbit: When filming Bones, a cut was needed as he blushed in one scene. The reason was that he was playing Pam Grier’s boyfriend and he had fantasised about her for decades.
I’ve just finished watching episode 3 of The Chosen, and I think I will watch the rest of it.
Finally Jesus’ sense of humour was shown and the running gag about the wedding at Cana actually made me laugh out loud. The only oddity that stuck out to me was using the Luke 2 Flight to Egypt account to explain the lost 18 years.
So, a good drama and one with an impressive theological team who haven’t forced any interpretation so far.
If you want a drama, which also treats the Biblical narrative with respect, well it has this ex-preacher wizard’s thumbs up.
I avoided the 2013 remake for a few years but it was one of a handful of brilliant horror movies in recent history. I think The Final Girls would be my number 2 on that list.
So both sides of horror: with a very hard R and a PG-13.
