What day is today?

I got the same email. It made me very sad. I’ve given them small donations over the years and appreciate their advocacy work. The world continues to change…in so many ways and so many areas. Some changes I’m happy with and many I am not, including this notice about CASAA.

We are melting here too  They continuously promise a thunderstorm but it is moved further ahead constantly.
My dog had a seizure on the 13th of June, probably due to high temperature caused by heat.
I thought I was going to lose her. She looked like a junky after taking something lethal.
The vet asked me if I had filmed it. NO! I thought she was dying, not something I would film.
If there is a next time I will film it. I’m watching her like a hawk, just hoping it won’t happen again.
I’m not the panicky type but I completely lost it that evening. Just screamed her name over and over again, begging her not to leave me.
That’s not wise during a seizure. It was just so unexpected I just couldn’t cope.

@Josephine_van_Rijn for some reason I keep forgetting that it actually gets hot over there. How hot does it get there in the summer ??

Very sorry to hear that you had to go through that with your dog, sounds MORE than difficult. I can’t say that I would have tried to film something like that, as my first instinct would have been towards the animal. How are you guys doing now ?

It can get hot sometimes, not really like this though. It has been 96.8, usually it will stay around 86 during heatwaves. It’s a wet heat, like a smothering blanket. I’ve been in places like Italy and the heat there is completely different.

We are doing fine. The first shock and feelings of impending doom have abated a little.
I check her temp regularly. The day after the seizure she had a temp of 103.28, she must have gone above 105.8 the evening before. That can lead to a seizure or death. I’ve got diazepam in case she gets one that lasts longer than 10 minutes.
I do have a cool mat for the lady but she will not use it unless I put something over it and even then she might just lie down somewhere else

I’ve had a German pointer that had seizures caused by stress. He would fall down when the bell was rung, or something. He just shook though, he wasn’t foaming at the mouth.
I always kept my cool, not this time.
They’d promised rain today but it didn’t come. Hopefully the thunderstorm will arrive sometime this evening and the shit will cool down to 71.6 as promised.
I’ve only taken her out for short walks just to do her business. I’m looking forward to having a nice walk in the park and let her swim again.

Wow @Josephine_van_Rijn I guess I’m partially geographically ignorant, I had “assumed” you guys were spared more of the summer heat there.

Outstanding…

Understood…

I’m well aware of how the heat effects animals, as we get the same, and higher temps here, and my widowed neighbor down the street’s HVAC system failed. I’m not sure how she and her animals would have fared, so I went down, and installed a window unit air conditioner for her, and it’s been a really big deal for them.

Here’s hoping for some cooler temps, so you guys can do that.

I suppose in a way we are all pretty ignorant about the weather elsewhere. There’s a lot of generalisation going on regarding basically everything

I have no such thing as an HVAC system. Even if I could afford to buy one, I wouldn’t be able to keep it running. The energy prices are insane and most of it is taxes.
They are robbing us blind over here. Last winter the fire hasn’t been higher than 59 and they were still sending me admonishments that I could save more energy!
I guess what they are really telling me is that I should hurry up and die :smirk:

It’s slowly getting cloudy, so we might get the storm this time  Outside it’s already cooler than inside. I’ve got the windows open and there’s a bit of a breeze. It’s been awhile since that happened :tada:

Sorry to hear that Jose. I hope she’s OK now. Could it have been “Old Dog Disease”? It’s pretty common but most people describe it as a seizure or stroke when it’s neither. I’ve had it happen to two dogs and the first time it happened I thought my dog was dying. It happened late at night on the weekend and I couldn’t get any help. I finally found a vet on a website and he called me and diagnosed it as ODD and told me to give her 1 Dramamine (and only 1). That fixed her right up in a day, but she had a tilt to her head for the rest of her life. It never occurred with either dog again. Don’t know if that’s normal or an anomaly.

I don’t think so, she’s turning 7 next month. I don’t know if that is old enough.
Also there was no vomiting and she wasn’t out of balance. She was very affectionate for a while, more than usual that is.
That is often associated with epilepsy. The vet isn’t sure though. She didn’t empty her bladder or her bowels either. It’s all a bit asymptomatic.
I just have to wait and see if it happens again and then film it. They will do further tests if it happens again.
I got her on Chinese herbs that strengthens the nervous system. I’ve been using herbs from this place for many years, different animals, different diseases.
It has always worked, so fingers crossed. The regular medication has side effects that are even worse than what it is supposed to cure.
