The exact opposite that was the big band. They had a real propensity to rush. The director was adamite about the bass controlling tempo and had a hand signal for me to “take control”. There were no in ears with that group. So there I would be, lagging on beat 2 throughout the whole song trying to drag the other 16 people back into tempo. Really took a lot of the fun out of playing.
Hehe, first time I smiled today Walt, thanks for that.
I’m NOW, going to have to jam with you.
I have played with musicians that in the studio (sometimes click, sometimes not) that were pretty accurate time wise. Get’m out live, and it turned into a shitshow, or hearding cats !!!
But does he have access to the internet? No trolling
That’s the downside, No internet service for convicts.
Maybe he could go to Sweden and rob a bank or something. They’ve got very nice prisons. And if he’s lucky he’ll meet someone like the dancing Viking to take care of him.
Move. SE Asia.
Yep, that sucks. I’ve played with enough folks and some are able to follow the beat and some…well. Over the years, I’ve learned that I have to adjust for some folks and follow their “rhythm”. It can be frustrating, but then I remember that a lot of my job as a percussionist is to make them sound better and to add some seasoning. But I am sometimes surprised at how many talented folks, when live, have a “wandering beat”.
@SessionDrummer Sounds like you’ve had some similar experiences. “Roll with the Changes”
The absolute worst was a sub drummer with the big band. I actually got behind him and kicked his chair to the beat. The dude was a total train wreck. The whole band was struggling to find a tempo. Drove me nuts.
@Cary1 that point is sometimes lost on people. It’s never about the ONE artist, but everyone working together.
Yep, that would suck. Some drummers also overplay and try to take over. After the first time I played hand percussion with one singer-songwriter he admitted he was worried because he had other percussionists “take over” and overplay. He thanked me after his performance…we still play together 10+ years later and he has introduced me to other singer-songwriters. It’s been a fun ride.
The other thing that can screw things up is someone with a tambourine who is off the beat. That sound cuts through everything and affects everyone else. And everyone thinks they can play the tambourine. Can be a nightmare.
Wtf is it with the screws the Chinese use on their mods?
Their mods are gear enough to replace, cheaper than to replace with something made in the US/UK/CA so they package the softest stainless steel so when something breaks and you liked it most people won’t be on the nod enough to just buy screws and replace it. They make a lot of profit off of that I bet.
“Oh it was only a 30 dollar RDA, I’ll just get another one” Meanwhile you support the little guys, pay 3 times as much and have yourself a big baggy of screws, etc… Or a mod that you can send in to get fixed… Tis why I supported mod makers and not Chinese companies, been saying that for years now.
I just got sick of replacing junky old mods, smaller guys use quality components, while it may just be a chip there’s actually craftsman working on it and not some Ex Nike Journeyman making the mod for a pack of ramen and some chicken feet to feed his family.
Same here, they’ve pulled out an old emergency law from 1952. Whole area’s can be evacuated in case of crisis.
The first hotel has already been confiscated. City council had nothing to say about it.
Another woman has been forced to sell her place, which already happened to be an asylum seekers hotel.
We will follow. It’s obvious citizens from abroad are more important than native citizens, no matter where you live.
We are just spoiled remnants of the old days and should be gotten rid off.
At least the newcomers will be grateful.
I read this today, it made my blood boil.
A few bits for the TLDR crowd:
“Obviously some people intended to mislead and made wildly irresponsible claims. Remember when the public-health community had to spend a lot of time and resources urging Americans not to inject themselves with bleach? That was bad. Misinformation was, and remains, a huge problem. But most errors were made by people who were working in earnest for the good of society.”
Her end conclusion
“Many people have neglected their health care over the past several years. Notably, routine vaccination rates for children (for measles, pertussis, etc.) are way down. Rather than debating the role that messaging about COVID vaccines had in this decline, we need to put all our energy into bringing these rates back up. Pediatricians and public-health officials will need to work together on community outreach, and politicians will need to consider school mandates.”
Right, let the same people who deliberately mislead us clean up the mess and give them the power to force it on us and our kids.
@SmilingOgre I will admit to one thing however. I forget the particulars, but I was tasked to due multiple songs/cuts using a very old E-Kit, might have even been a Simmons Octagon Kit for all I can remember, but having NO feedback was screwing up my time signatures, and I refused to play with a click. Enter the Butt Kicker, and all issues ceased …
