WHAT Has Made You Smile Today? (III)

Perusing the second hand store and found a pair of hickory drum sticks for a couple of bucks. A drummer friend had taught me some drum roll techniques which I find meditating so I got them. @SessionDrummer I looked up the meaning of PB2 on my sticks but nothing came up. Do you know what it means? These sticks have nylon tips and I think the B stands for band, right?

Let me know what brand they are @muth, because as of late, some MFG’s have gone rogue, and played fast and loose with what used to be a simple rating system.

A 2B which is what I’m assuming you’ve got, the B does loosely stand for “Band”. 2B’s are fairly thick and heavy, and are typically used for very heavy playing. They require a lot more effort to control, especially when throwing doubles, and/or paradiddles, etc.

My personal preference has always been Promark 747 Hickory Naturals, which are a Promark variant of the 7A size. Hickory is always more expensive, but far superior IMO. Unless playing Jazz, I also always opt for the wood tip, and in the natural finish, that way I don’t have to scrap off, or groove off the finish.

Check out the standard sizes here …

Realizing you picked them up at a 2nd hand store, I’ll teach you THE trick when buying sticks. ALWAYS roll them on the counter on the store, one at a time. If they wobble, pick another pair.

Ah, like checking out a cue stick

SD, the only thing it says on the sticks is USA Hickory and just below that, PB2. I could not find that acronym anywhere :woman_shrugging:

Hmmm, could just be an off brand. About the only PB2 I’ve heard of were Andante’s but they’re Irish. PB - Pipe Band, aka Marching Snare Drum.

Do they have a nylon tip option? Could they be Irish but use USA Hickory?

I’ve never played in a marching band, and only know about them peripherally, and don’t honestly know how Andante uses the terms “Made In”, and/or if they outsource materials.

Do they LOOK like the Andante sticks above, or the 2B’s ??

Funny, but years ago I used to play drum in a marching fife and drum corps. One year, my boss who played pipes in a bagpipe band, asked if I could fill in for their bass drummer. They were marching July 4th on Nantucket Island. I would have to wear the traditional kilt, hat, socks, etc. I said, but I would be the only woman in the band. Wouldn’t it look weird? I was getting nervous but they only had one bass drummer and couldn’t march without it. Omg, what did I get myself into? My drum was gigunda, as big as me and just as heavy. They started out with the traditional shot of scotch which came out of someone’s sporran and got passed around to each player. I wasn’t expecting it to get passed to me but it did. I looked at everyone and took a swig. Smiles flashed and off we went. It was not easy but I was taught to help when I can, so I marched on, keeping a smile throughout and hoping to get another swig when it was all over, lol. A memory I’ll never forget. If I can find the photo a friend took I’ll swallow my pride and post it.

The shape looks more like a 2B. The Andantes are more sleek towards the tip and I didn’t see any nylon tips.

I just rolled them and one is slightly warped, bummer! Are they still okay to use for fun or will the warp throw off my rolling technique?

That’s me playing the tri-toms at Disney World, back when Ludwig used real wood. The guy who usually played them couldn’t make the trip and he had about 30 lbs on me. I normally played the quads next to me there.

It really would have been embarrassing to die right there in the middle of Main St at Disney World

I just ordered Rick’s Sugar Daddy from

They’ve been out of it for awhile and their batches seem to go fast.

This made me happy!

I bet! I ordered a 120ml about 2 months ago. What is the diff between Sugar Daddy and Sugar Momma? Sugar Momma says based w/o sucralose so is Sugar Daddy with sucralose?

I don’t know. I bought a 30ml of Mama but have never opened it. I looked up some reviews and they said it’s not as sweet and doesn’t have the lip-smacking characteristic as SD. I imagine it’s just as clean tasting though.

Thanks! I’ve seen some e-recipes that uses Sugar momma so I will have to check out the reviews on ELR.

I know I have mutant taste buds, but for me Daddy is better with fruit, Mama with bakery & creams. I don’t like sucralose in my coffee mixes, so Mama works much better there and will likely be my go-to if the Sweet Mate ever runs out.

Thank you, doesn’t sound like Sugar Momma would be up my alley. I just now bought more flavors from EC Blends so I am good for awhile, LOL! It is nice to see a fellow EC Blend buyer on this site.

I would recommend Sugar Daddy Vanilla if anyone carried it
