WHAT Has Made You Smile Today?

I would guess Whitefish Point, with a freighter in the distance, on it’s way to the Soo Locks.

Cool rainbow (snow-bo) also!

For our non-Michigan friends, how you tell what lake you are on is from the rocks:

Just one more picture and I will stop lol

This is my testament to the toughness of the women in the UP. This lady is about my age and she was down there in the driftwood hunting for agate that washes up when it storms on Lake Superior (It was snowing). (I saved this picture for you guys on ELR)

I knew that agate is a rock, but I couldn’t remember exactly what they look like, so I googled it of course, and they are so beautiful!!! Also, I am glad you are enjoying your trip!

I’m home now… the cool thing about that area of the state is you can stay in a hotel near the bridge for a few nights, drive a hundred miles a day and see 3 of the Great Lakes and some pretty cool stuff. Because of the peninsulas and the effect of the air coming down from Canada you can see many different geological and climate effects in a pretty short distance of space. We always have fun up there. If you want to explore the Western UP, you have to drive a lot farther. Next summer, we are going to take a trip “just” to explore the Porcupine mountains.

For anyone interested… I took these pictures in the spring a couple years ago:

But whatever you do… unless you are insane - don’t come up here in the winter:

Wow, really good pictures!!! Beautiful area…I really like the pictures that you took of the lake from a vantage point above it where you can see how crystal clear the water is and you can see all of the rocks and the bottom of the lake because it is so clear! Breathtaking!

Thank you very much! The lakes are not that crystal clear around Detroit and the other cities unfortunately… but up there, yes. Most people don’t realize you could live in this state your whole life and never see all of the shoreline.

Yeah, I imagine near the cities it wouldn’t be that clear because of pollution…sad but true

That is so cool! My friend has land near the Tahq falls… property taxes are 300 a year on an all season road. Ha!

That is really cool @ozo …agate is a really beautiful rock…I wish someone would design a mod decorated with some cool looking agate!!

Awww… you made my day, thank you  We stay in flea bag motels and eat cheap food so we can drive a little tiny car around and see new stuff. I have a very sick wanderlust I’ve infected this poor husband of mine with…

Great photos, @Maureeenie! Some of the nature you have is just stunning; the mountains and the lakes, and some of your rivers… Aah… Too bad you can’t cross the Atlantic by bridge, or you could come to our fjords with your little car, husband and the camera. Norway is also wonderful when it comes to scenery.

Thank you for sharing!

OM Gosh! Norway is my bucket list place! I watch a lot of older European shows on MHZ. I will take that as a compliment coming from a Norwegian!

It might take me a few years to save for it but I am coming!
