I was just curious as you are just down the road. I have a family member that is pretty big in Iceland, Michael Dean Odinn Pollock the Hillbilly Viking as he likes to be called, hehe.

For those seasoned citizens who are alive today that remember when television became popular it must be mind boggling the advances in technology in their lifetimes.

I remember televisions were furniture. Three channels? On a good day and if it wasn’t windy. All telephones were rotary dial. If you wanted to know what’s going on in the news you either were at your TV at 6pm or wait for tomorrow’s paper. I think people take for granted the speed information reaches us in our modern age. It’s truly amazing.

I resemble that remark  Sorry.

We had a 40’ antennae tower. We got 4 channels!

Our first telephone had no dial, you picked up the receiver and told the operator what number you where trying to reach. TV was black and white, and went off the air at 11:00 pm

I hear you. back in the 70’s my step-dad was a TV repairman. We lived in rural VA, in the mountains. TV reception was sketchy at best so part of what he did was install antennas. I helped him during the summers. It’s amazing to think how much people would pay for a big Channel Master antenna mounted to the roof of their A-frame house on a tripod with a rotor installed. Crazy money. But back then that was cutting edge. Then the home satellite dish that looked like a swimming pool on a stick. That all seems so primitive to me now.

This concludes our signal for the broadcast day… ā€œOh say can you see. By the dawns early lightā€¦ā€ I remember that

I’ve been here almost a year wow ! Feb. 4th I joined. The forum has grown into a loving fraternity where I can go anytime and be with my friends.

We’re here for each other for support and comfort. There’s a whole lotta love here. Shows me to not lose faith in humanity that ppl aren’t all bad and that strangers are friends that you just don’t know their names yet.
:peace_symbol::heart:ļø:yin_yang: peace love n harmony. Thank you Lars for such an easy formatted forum. I personally dislike most Bc of their busy hard to navigate format. Thank you for all you do and thanks JoJo for being there and steeping up to a new challenge as moderator even w/ school.

I know this is old but eh . I’ve used just about all of the other forums and never posted anything. I would just read the questions people would ask and the all rude replies. Everyone here is extremely nice and helpful. This is what a vaping community should be like.

A good time to bump this actually, thank you @RandyRotten. Some really great people here who are always eager and willing to help.

Yep. Definitely have to agree with all the above (nostalgia included)!

Like others, I’ve got several places that I’ve visited heavily over the past couple of months as I began my vaping journey, but never found one that was consistently friendly. A few were nice, but just in reading I could see the ā€˜cliques’ already in existence, and not once did I get that vibe in my reading here.

Grew weary quickly of the BS that exists on alot of them. Especially the prevalence of attitudes on Reddit, or the animosity between ECF and VU. Even though there’s a wealth of info, and some good folks around all three, they just felt ā€˜lacking’ in one way or another. The fact that this place is what it is, is just beyond measure!

Once I can get past the current financial issues and back on track…I fully plan on donating to say thanks to everyone here. There’s none better.
Trust me. I’'ve looked.

ā€œcliquesā€ exactly right. The last time I used Reddit a member posted that he was quitting because of how rude people were. His post was polite and I agreed with everything he said. The comments people left confirmed what he said. People started calling him names and saying the site was for adults. It was pretty crazy even the moderator was in on it. One of the regular members on Reddit would look for people who asked question he didn’t like and harass them.( he said that himself). I’m not saying everyone on the other forums are bad.

That’s Reddit for you. That is the reason I absolutely hate it. You have to wade through smart ass and nasty comments to find a little info. There’s alot of good info there but you do have to put up with that crap to get it.

Something I’ve noticed… (and it may be THE reason ELR is so uniquie in it’s overal cvility) There are a few regulars here that stay humble, but know how to squelch a real argument… you know, one of those disagreements that seems like it might really blow at any second.

We have a few jerks here too, but the atmosphere here is so strong of humility and overall love, the blowhards don’t really stick around, or stay silent most of the time.
