This should help a lot I think. How often does someone google for their questions to be answered, they find a thread (on ELR or other forums) hoping to get an answer and they have to wade through pages and pages of off-topic junk only to find out the topic isn’t even being discussed? It’s often a massive waste of time and very annoying, if not repulsive from time to time.

I appreciate you chiming in. The Saloon was intended as such a place but then the derails and naughty stuff was being put there as well as a stop gap measure. If the majority of the members are in favor of keeping it then we will, with looser restrictions than the main public areas but still with some rules.

Unless it’s a brand new member. And that’s part of what we’re discussing here, right? How the forum appears to new members?
I’m not saying that I want to lose those fantastic reviews, I truly enjoy them. And I’m generally not one to say that something is unfair, I’m one to say “get over it.” But I do feel as if I’m being asked to censor myself from this point forward (and I don’t even post naughty pictures, not that I recall) and i find it troubling and upsetting.
I know I’m guilty of derailing threads. I won’t do it anymore. I’ll zip my lips back up now.

My sentiments exactly ! To add to this , it takes guts to get up the nerve to ask the question and post it when you’re new so to have a straight forward answer shouldn’t be that hard to achieve.

I think you know that isn’t my point. The under-moderated forums, we all know well.
But the over-moderated forums, no one knows about. Why? Because they no longer exist.
Yes, over-exuberant members need to police themselves better. And I believe that message has been made clear. What more needs to be done? Sterilize the place completely? To death?
@Kenbu like I said, it isn’t personal. I am not attacking anyone. Just stating that beautiful opinion everyone asked for.
Here is my perspective, for anyone interested… I am viewing this through the lens of what is best for ELR. Not for me, not for you, not for anyone or anything else. This place has a magic. Yes, people can and I am sure will be more vigilant. But we can’t destroy that special “thing” that makes this place what it is.

You have got to be kidding me! This is just all a joke right? You let a few members get away with rage-full tirades which are strings of profanity, something that should be in a cage not a forum and you put SteamPugs innocent humor under a microscope? Get a clue! SteamPugs is not driving members away. There are other places to look. Mopping up after these individuals and sweeping it under the rug isn’t the answer either.

No one person is being singled out, we all are. My wifes parents dont swear, drink, smoke or anything like that, yet they are so much fun to be around that i always leave with a smile and i almost never “let loose” around them. We all filter ourselves in some places. All we really want is for people to keep that in mind, use the appropriate behavior in the appropriate places.
If people did that it would go a long way to stop the constant stream of PMs we are hit with.

I understand completely, the derailing needs to stop. There is no reason to have that material in the general forum. I you want to have that kind of thread just keep it in the saloon. Like I said if it was on opt-in system with a disclaimer of what might be seen, then you would have no reason to complain.

There was a time when the issues that’s currently being addressed weren’t a problem at all. But since that time ELR has doubled, if not tripled in size and so has it’s problems.
If these problems are not addressed now, than when?
Most of us come here because it’s a lot different from some of these other forums that we avoid. But if ELR is left to grow unchecked than it won’t be long before it’ll be any different.
I’ve seen it building up for some time now and I for one am glad these issues are being addressed.

So, I’m UK and it’s coming up to 1am…if I don’t get my beauty sleep I won’t stay as beautiful as I am…
So to summarize so far…
The reviews really aren’t a problem?
There still should be somewhere for racier content to be Within reason if it offends you simply don’t go in.
Derailing to the extent that it has become needs to be sensibly toned down and I would imagine this will be moderated and closely watched now that there are enough Mods to do that.
Did I miss anything?

Likewise, I understand it’s not personal but I want to understand better.
I don’t see how it would change so drastically that it will deter anyone. Everything sounds very reasonable to me. Maybe you should explain what that special thing is that you were talking about.
I’m sure these changes that @Ken_O_Where and the mods are trying to implement didn’t happen just because they woke up one day thinking it should happen. There must be something that happens over and over behind the scenes that we are not aware off that triggers them to act on it as a moderator should.
