So that is 32 g wrapped around 2 24 g kanthol?

Yes.

Tom’s build was a fused Clapton.

Clapton coil = single wire core with an over wrap of another wire

Fused Clapton coil = 2 core wires with an over wrap of another wire.

In Tom’s case of the post you quoted he used 2x24g cores with 32g wrap wire.

Be warned though you need some serious post holes to use a build like that.

The diameter of the finished wire would be

0.2mm + 0.5mm + 0.5mm + 0.2mm = 1.4mm wire at its biggest diameter.

0.2mm + 0.5mm + 0.2mm =0.9mm at its smallest diameter.

Velocity holes are pretty big. Tried my first Clapton other day. Prebuilt bu ud. Loving it but want to start making my own. Have lots of kanthol 22-32 g but no nichrome. Any suggestions from a master builder would be appreciated

Try 26g k and 32k for a clapton. You don’t need n80. Kanthal works just fine. Using n80 will give you shorter ramp up time( claptons tend to have long ramp up time) and lower resistance.

This build I did earlier to day… See the size difference.

sorry for the shitty pic quality. The one to the left is 2x26g n80 wrapped with 35g n80 and the right is 24g kanthal wrapped with 35g n80.

Sweet.

Looks like a Staple Staggerton.

Staggered fused Clapton style with Ribbon through the centre and fused together.

Your guy must be pretty good. It’s very difficult to keep ribbon from twisting during wrapping.
